A lot of you are getting to Stoke very early. There isn't much to see or do!
I'll be taking in the scenery. The rows of terraced houses with no front garden, the bins spread across the pavement, the factory chimneys spitting out smoke, the locals with their lack of teeth and 1980s fashion sense, the women calling me duck, the decaying red brick buildings and the stench of failure in the air.
on the 10am out of euston from looking at football ground guide it looks like police shepherd you to the terrace bar ( away fans only ) and then ferry you to the ground via coaches, its around a 30 minute walk from looking at reviews.
any other pub shouts? as with nearly 2k travelling - going to be a shitter if only 1 bar available.
expect to be a lot of twats tomorrow - who have "followed Charlton all there life" yet have sprung up like daffodils at recent away games.
@pal@palarsehater’s warning about The Old Bill shepherding away supporters into some (not very good) bar is very timely and thank you for it. My son’s mate supports Fulham and he mentioned today that the same fate befell them until they got up on their toes.
Suffice it to say that our party of seven will be sampling the cultural delights of this beautiful city, including The Potteries Museum & Art Gallery (locally made ceramics, decorative arts and a WWII Spitfire), The Gladstone Pottery Museum and The Trentham Estate (replete with landscaped Italian gardens and a forest with monkeys).

I can't wait for my cultural visit.
That's a remarkably accurate picture you've painted there!
Reckon they'll be available at the ground. Not got any but have been to grounds before with the same 'No matchday sales' statement and always got them at the ground... legitimately.
I don't know if it will affect any of ours driving up but part of the A 500 is closed for the weekend. On the Stoke forum.
Shouldn't be a problem. For those driving from the south you can either use the M1/A50 route or as long as they come off the M6 at Junction 15 the closure won't affect them.
For those driving from the north, the A500 southbound will be fine so getting off at M6 Junction 16 is ok - heading home though you should head south on the A500 and join the M6 at junction 15.

I'd love the locals disposable income and quality of life.
Did the police make things difficult to get back to the station after the game?
Not really , walked back to the station (2miles?) rather than getting the shuttle bus, the traffic looked horrendous, not sure we’d have got back in time to make the train.

Blue light escort. Once on the bus it took 5 minutes. I made the 17.50 back to Euston.

We caught the shuttle bus. The police stopped all the traffic and we got to the station around 5.20. We made the 5.30 to Birmingham. There must have been 200+ police on duty. Absolutely crazy

Word must have got back that @clb74 was wearing his shorts and they were worried his legs would frighten the locals.
I see one of the ticket inspectors took the role of security guard for the players carriage on the train back. No doubt to avoid some fans giving them stick which to be honest they probably deserved after yesterday.
Apart from the game and result, we had a great day. Train from Euston was quick, then far too many police at Stoke station and town to greet us. Must be getting old as when I asked one policeman the way to the ground, he politely directed us to the canal towpath and didn't direct us the allocated pubs. We walked along the canal towpath to the ground, picked up tickets that hadn't arrived at home, and went in the Harvester garden for a few bevvies. Lovely walk and two barges moored near the ground selling food and drink. Walked back along the towpath with lots of other people and quite a few police this time! All very friendly and welcoming in the ground. So why all the police?? As an aside, surely it is crazy putting the away fans next to the noisiest Stoke fans.

they were surprised by the gavvers presence as well. apparently some rumoured intel about some of our unsavoury types coming up. possibly to get revenge following some issue from the reverse fixture?
though one did say the problem was that the Albanian branch of Millwall had come up with us. maybe to intercept the Serbian branch of Portsmouth fans on the way back from Tranmere.

I've noticed that with a couple of ground this season, maybe they want all the "atmosphere/yoof" down one end of the ground?

Get some bacon in matey.
I'm about 30 miles from Stoke but you're all welcome. Smoked or unsmoked?

Fantastic support yet again.

It must have been cold.
