Retiring a number for a player who has played just over 40 games? Odd.

Surely if they were to do something with the No.22 shirt they could make it so the best Academy kid gets awarded that number the next season

Bit like how the No.7 shirt @ Man Utd has so much anticipation about it

If you are referring to the video fucking cringworthy would be more like it.
  • "The 22 shirt has become synonymous with Jude, his rise to the first team aged just 16 years and 38 days and these qualities.

And as such the Club have decided it would be fitting to retire this number, to remember one of our own and to inspire others."

    Bit embarrassing imo

    Ha ha wtf?!

Yes fans the world over instantly recognise the famous number 22 of Birmingham.

On a par with the Brazil number 10, Man Utd number 7, and the 23 of Michael Jordan!

That’s fucking hilariously embarrassing. Putting him on the same level as maldini at Milan and deceased footballers who died very young is just awful.

That’d be like us retiring 45 if/when Doughty moves on this summer.

Obviously Bellingham has the higher ceiling but that’s not why you retire squad numbers. Their on field contributions aren’t too far apart.

Can you imagine if we retired number 3 after Gomez went to Liverpool? Or 7 after Shelvey left?

I bet if he had worn any of numbers 1 to 11 they wouldn't have retired it!

Think we should retire the 27 shirt in honour of Charlton legend David Davis.

We had no number 22 last season ourselves, we retired it in advance to honour Jude Bellingham

Jay the Birmingham fan shares his opinion on the decision...

Does anyone know a website that translates Brummie?
  • Scored for England U21s tonight

Guess that means another shirt number is getting retired
  • Did I see in the week he is now the youngest player to ever play for the u21s. Beating the previous by 3 months.

Just checked. Previous youngest was Walcott. Bellingham 3 months younger on first u21 game. And a goal to go with it. Brilliant
  • Eligible to play for the under 21s until 2027. Doubt he will still be playing for them past the Euros this summer.

Be good to see how much Dortmund use him - Definitely think he's gone to one of the best two clubs for youth (Ajax the other)

Yeah he's been in and around their first team all summer. He is very, very bloody good, and when you consider his age, it's downright crazy.

Cheers I didnt know that, I wasnt sure if he'd have done a Sancho and gone to their Dortmund II team first
  • Called up to the England squad to replace Ward Prowse.

Not bad for someone whose just 17 years old.

I suppose that’s the England number 21 shirt retired now.

Ridiculously young. Hardly the same sort of player as Ward-Prowse either
