I'm surprised how critical people are of Hull as I thought they played well, and were certainly better than us. I thought we just defended our box effectively to deny them clear cut chances. Virtually every other team in the Championship has better quality players than us, but Bowyer just gets us to lift our game and keep competitive in every match. He really is an extraordinary manager for when your back is against the wall, and his organisation, tactics and game management have come on leaps and bounds.
Quite well? We restricted them to long punts into the middle and one chance. We scored 1 and had 4 other chances. Possession means nothing if no end product.
I thought they were quite good at the back, but clueless in midfield and inadequate up front. Up there with the worst team we have played all season. Look relegation fodder.
Possession was only one of the stats they dominated. We played longball most of the game; they only resorted to it towards the end. We scored from a keeper error. What 4 chances did we have that troubled their keeper so?
We had the next two best chances after our goal. There was the great move that just needed a touch and the free header that Bonne should have scored from.
But their keeper didn't have to save them did he.
We had to beat the team in front of us today, which we did. 3 points is all that matters. We will play differently each game. Enjoy the win and cheer up ffs!
To everyone who wished me well... thank you. Mom passed 30 minutes after the match ended. Watching the thread and getting a crucial win was a great diversion from a long week.
Dad passed much the same, 6 years ago. I am glad we brought her home the last week, as no visitors are allowed in hospitals right now due to Covid. Her two brothers were also in town. It’s been quite a year.
An excellent win that I wasn't expecting. I thought we played well although not great, but you can only beat the team in front of you.
I think Hull are probably doomed (like most people). I think Luton are also likely to be relegated, simply because they are too far behind with 8 games left. Although they will pick up points.
Barnsley are playing and have for some time, like an upper mid table team and are capable of gaining 6 points on us, if we don't get quite a few more.
I still think we need 50 points, so that's 8 from 8 games. If we can beat QPR next week, we'll be cooking on gas
I thought that was a well deserved win, although missing a couple of decent chances left us vulnerable to a late equaliser. My heart was in my mouth when Pearce and Lockyer went for the same ball, missed it and the Hull player latched onto the bouncing ball in our box to get his shot away. Fortunately, he hit it straight at Dillon, although for one terrible moment, I thought it was going to be a repeat of that late goal at Hillsborough.
Other than a shaky start at left back by Oshilaja (who was much better in the second half), I thought we defended well. Mathews is a class act and Pearce and Lockyer were commanding in the middle, with some excellent blocks and interceptions, save for the one mix up near the end. There is also no better man than Pearcey if you need someone to put their head in where it hurts to force the ball over the line.
Albie was excellent and blended his undoubted technical quality with some good tackling and covering. His ability to switch the play gives us an important, additional dimension and we really do need to extend his contract with us as soon as we’re in a position to do so. Cullen and Pratley turned in very solid performances and, whilst McGeady blows hot and cold (to put it mildly), he is capable of producing moments of class. I’d have liked to have seen us having more possession and control of the game in midfield and maybe Field will help in that regard once he builds up his fitness. Erhun Oztumer may also have a role to play, as his pass and move style and creativity also offers us something different.
Macauley Bonne had an off day, missing a couple of good chances, but Hemed had by far his best game for us, which was timely to say the least. Aneke also looks like he will be a useful impact sub, in addition to Jonny Williams, with his ball carrying ability, and Alfie Doughty, with his searing pace.
I thought we were very well organised and drilled and that Lee Bowyer got his substitutions absolutely spot on. Overall, a fine performance and one that reflects tremendously well on Lee’s ability to get the very best out of the players, especially given the utter nonsense which has been going on at the club. We looked a very determined, fit and highly motivated outfit.
Hull were very limited, with next to no creativity, and they will be further weakened by the loss of Wilks at the end of the month. There is a long way to go but I am confident that we will finish above them. Barnsley are certainly showing signs of life but there are a number of teams in real trouble and a dip in form from any of them could well see them dropping into the bottom 3.
A great result and an enormously important one in terms of the players’ self belief.
Sorry to hear that @NapaAddick there are obviously things much more important than football but hopefully the result added a small amount. You seem like a good guy so all the best to you and the family.
Condolences Napa. My mom passed 2 years ago after a long illness at home. Your mom would have taken great comfort being at home and having her loved ones around her. The win was for her and Seb. God bless.

We are staying up, we are staying up!!!!
My sincere condolences to you at what must be a terrible time
Thank you. Been very preoccupied with family health issues. Mom is in home hospice and has perhaps hours left. Was at her side til 2am this morning. Been a rollercoaster for a while so did not have much time to post.
California has has quite the Covid lockdown compared to some states and my winery has been my focus when mom has not.
But I just HAD to wake up early to follow this match.
Still worried that we appear to be a little clueless when we get near their goal - we should definitely have made it more comfortable with the chances we had and better teams will punish us.
Still, very impressed with the spirit of the side; Bows has got them fighting to stay up, which is half the battle.
COYA
Fortunately not as clueless as Hull were when they got near our goal!
I actually think it helps our players at present by not having any fans from either club in a stadium while a game plays.
The club has gone through a strange crazy period and the players need to just solely focus on the football itself.
Fans being present is an extra piece of pressure.
Most of the time, the fans will help and give everyone a boost.
Just a particular time period like this, it is one less thing for them to think about.
They can just solely concentrate on the football and let manager and coaches organise them 👍
They know we love em
I think having no crowd will have different effects on many teams.
Clubs that had the crowd on their backs, may benefit from the release of pressure.
Unmotivated mid tablers, or unprofessional mercenary players may take the opportunity to put in 20% less effort without the crowd imploring them on.
Fortunately we seem to have a good bunch of lads that will try hard for the manager regardless, and dare I say it, some that can wilt a little under the crowds moans of disappointment.

Sorry for your loss Napa. Take care of yourself and the rest of your family.
Great win for us, was a bit worried when i saw the team news, Deji at left back, Field and Williams only subs, not much creativity in midfield, Green injured etc.
But we played well and deserved the 3 points. Cannot afford to get too complacent though, as Hull were really awful. If they don't get anything from their next 2 games (Brum away, Boro at home) then i can't see them surviving with their run in.
0i david sylvain you prick. Suck on this result and choke.
Now please piss off.
To be fair, if a Palace or Millwall come on here just to join in a fair discussion as both he and 'Millwall Fan' do then I think that they are to be welcomed.
Why would Palace care if we beat Hull anyway?
Please don't compare this prick to the millwall fans who come on here for a bit of banter.
First ten mins or so plenty of that time it looked like a park match with some of the passing of the ball straight off the pitch appalling . If Johnny Williams played for palace and was called Zaha the crying on here For his diving would flood the world , I loved it you just knew he was going over every time they came near him !
Is McGeady only playing the 3 and going or did I misread someone saying he’s not extending it further somewhere else ?

Pretty sure he’s here with us for the full 9 games mate.

He is a total wum.
Unfortunately, this season, I don't think it'll be enough.

No I'm not getting carried away after a 1-0 win... I'm always this deluded.
I predicted 58 points at the start of the season, given the injury crisis etc 52 points would be a great effort.
