Essential win. What a relief. Think Hull could finish bottom. Don't think Luton will have enough but bit worried about Barnsley who are on good form. Think 3 wins and should be safe. Anything less could still be very nervy.0

It was tactical why Deji played, as their right winger would be cutting inside anyway14 -
Could say why play Morgan on the wing, but it worked. Might be due to fitness or there could have been a tactical reason.golfaddick said:My only concern is why Purrington didn't play at LB. I knew when he joined us they said Oshileja could play right across the back line, but surely if you have a proper & fit left back then you play him. Especially as Oshilaja is right footed. I like Oshilaja , but I have absolutely no idea what his best position . Awful at defending , but composed when going forward and can cross a ball . Has got injured in every game I've seen him play .2

To be fair, if a Palace or Millwall come on here just to join in a fair discussion as both he and 'Millwall Fan' do then I think that they are to be welcomed.blackpool72 said:0i
david sylvain you prick.
Suck on this result and choke.
Now please piss off.
Why would Palace care if we beat Hull anyway?4 -
I'm surprised how critical people are of Hull as I thought they played well, and were certainly better than us. I thought we just defended our box effectively to deny them clear cut chances. Virtually every other team in the Championship has better quality players than us, but Bowyer just gets us to lift our game and keep competitive in every match. He really is an extraordinary manager for when your back is against the wall, and his organisation, tactics and game management have come on leaps and bounds.8

The top two of West Brom and Leeds have home games that will have an impact on the outcome. West Brom host Hull and Leeds host Luton, Barnsley and of course Charlton on the last day. I really hope that we don’t need anything going to Elland Road. It can’t get much worse than that.4

Always a reason behind Bowyer's decisions!! - Although dont remember their winger cutting in too oftenkillerandflash said:https://www.cafc.co.uk/news/view/5eee5345ba2dc/bowyer-explains-how-oshilaja-grabbed-his-opportunity-to-start-against-hull-city

Love the attitude from Chuks reading that too, explains why he didnt start
Have really missed these little insights from Bowyer, he used to do it all the time when he took over5 -
After reading Bowyer's comments I take it back about not seeing him there again!Talal said:
I'm not sure we'll see Oshilaja there again unless in an emergency. No way were they better than us! They fashioned only one decent chance and that was right at the death!PemburyAddick said:I'm surprised how critical people are of Hull as I thought they played well, and were certainly better than us. Quite. Oshilaja was being done on the outside so didn't work for me.ForeverAddickted said:

I meant to add to my earlier comment, I thought Hemed did well, and I would definitely keep him for next season.3
-
Thought we deserved the win, good to see Morgan involved always thought he had great potential from when I've seen him play. Hemed also did some good things which bodes well for the rest of the season.
Said before I think we need 4 wins to guarantee survival, 3 more now...0 -
Agree with you on both points. Aneke surprised me too with a couple of bursts of speed: got to the byline, advanced on goal, but the cross didn't work. With his 'gridiron' physique I'm not yet convinced he's agile enough to score regularly in the Championship.Alwaysneil said:
I thought Deji was shocking as left back defensively for the first 20-30 minutes and very luck not to get more carded or concede. His forward play was much better and his cross after the Mcgeady drag back was excellent.Weegie Addick said:Well, I enjoyed that much more than expected. Empty stadium football on the TV is rubbish but strangely today didn't feel anywhere near as odd - maybe because I'm used to following on the stream and the radio-style commentary drowns out the silence.
V good performance all round. Hemed and McGeady have a bit of class about them and look much fitter. So too Morgan. After shaky start from Deji, the defence got their act together across the line, well-supported by Cullen and Pratley.
Huge credit that most players looked fully fit. Only concerns really on that score were Bonne, who just didn't click into the game, and Aneke. I'm sorry but I don't get him - he's just a big lumbering lump.
It's a great feeling when Charlton put a smile on our faces - been a while coming!
Thank you, Bow, JJ et al.
Aneke looked much faster than I remember him being. Before the lay off he seemed like a slow lump of muscle, didn’t see that today he looked quick. Have high hopes for him.

I actually think it helps our players at present by not having any fans from either club in a stadium while a game plays.
The club has gone through a strange crazy period and the players need to just solely focus on the football itself.
Fans being present is an extra piece of pressure.
Most of the time, the fans will help and give everyone a boost.
Just a particular time period like this, it is one less thing for them to think about.
They can just solely concentrate on the football and let manager and coaches organise them 👍
They know we love em

Pah! Man up!AFKABartram said:Massive win, over the moon.
Had to go and start mowing the lawn at 85 mins, forgot just how nerve wracking Charlton holding a 1 goal lead is.
Up the Mighty Reds
and ignore my well - watered house plants, and the barely needed piss I took on 87 mins that I managed to drag out for nearly two minutes.
But doesn’t it just feel so good now? How we all needed that. Hats off Bow, I didnt dare believe you could get them up for such a performance.3 -
Maybe Hemed could finally do what was expected of him when he was brought here.0
-
I think Hemed is key. Eight games to go and I think he needs to net at least three times. Goals are going to be hard to come by and as our senior striker we simply must have him scoring.11

I'm looking forward to seeing Green back, we'll need his pace and directness4

Interesting that they appear to have lost Maddison (back to Peterborough?) and WIlkes won't extend. So they are only going to get weaker by the sound of it.killerandflash said:Low scores reflect dire nature of Hull City display against Charlton Athletic: Player ratings

Saw Lockyer having a go at the ref. Sure way to get yellow cards. He played well today with one superb interception. We need him to avoid suspensions by steering clear of refs.5

Very happy with that result but have to be cautious that it wasn't perfect and against tougher sides we will struggle. The obvious thing was lack of finishing as it could easily have been 3-0 on another day and that wouldn't have flattered us too much. Hull were abysmal and I'd be shocked if they turned it around, they looked clueless at times and lacked any sort of urgency.
But not to take away from the boys, some excellent displays defensively (Deji was good but I don't want to see him at LB again). Midfield was pretty much faultless, we'd be screwed had Cullen not stayed so I've got even more love for him.
McGeady was a weird one, started off very brightly and looked pretty dangerous, not sure I saw him in the second half. Hard to tell on a not perfect stream but he did look trimmer as well, think he could be vital to us staying up.4 -
Quite well? We restricted them to long punts into the middle and one chance. We scored 1 and had 4 other chances. Possession means nothing if no end product.PemburyAddick said:I'm surprised how critical people are of Hull as I thought they played well, and were certainly better than us. I thought they were quite good at the back, but clueless in midfield and inadequate up front. Up there with the worst team we have played all season. Look relegation fodder.8 -
Interesting that the only home teams to win today were Watford and Blackburn,0

Next batch of 6-pointers:cafc_se7 said:
One key point to add is that from now on in (each game week) at least two of the teams are playing each other which means they will all take points off each other!Oggy Red said:
Just looked at Hull's fixture list - horrible.moutuakilla said:Shame Luton and Barnsley picked up points.. hopefully Huddersfield, Hull and Middlesbrough won't pick up any more!
What with Barnsley sparking into life and Luton grabbing a late late equaliser to build their belief, Hull could soon find themselves cemented into the bottom 3.
Charlton ...... one game at a time. If we pick up regular points we'll be safe.
It's in our own hands.
Saturday: Stoke v Middlesbrough
Tuesday after: Wigan v Stoke
2nd July: Hull v Middlesbrough
4th July : Stoke v Barnsley
Several more to follow.

Great stuff from the boys.
Let’s be honest, we have had a massive stroke of luck with the 100 day break from football - absolutely massive.
After the 1-0 loss to Boro we were headed one way - down - with a pile of injuries and the ownership all over the place with Mouthall and the world’s poorest Sheikh.
But in the break we got our players back - apart from one - and the ownership is settled for now at least.
The biggest thing for me though is one word; energy.
We are a team built on energy and intent and that’s why we started the season like a train because we were full of vim and vigour....but by March we were running on empty.
Now with 100 days off from football we can start again fresh and fit and ready to go again.
Funny old game.42
