Government is considering the making the wearing of face masks a mandatory duty whilst in shops and other 'confined spaces'. Will pubs be included? In the pub photo, Johnson (the state of him!) and his Brexit mates demonstrate that they are above such things. Hypocrites? Not at all. The mask-wearing idea came about only very recently. (When Johnson was shown the data about a 'second wave' of Covid-19, perhaps).
Ok so you don’t agree with Boris but why is his appearance important? (‘The state of him!’)
Hey @Spitfire76 would be interested in an update on how things have worked out over the last couple of months.
Can you see them all being enforced closed again?
Hey there , it’s all going well but all a bit stressful.
Im doing 50% off all food Wednesday & Thursday but don’t include soft drinks like in August & will drop down to 50% off main courses only in October, these days are full every minute we are open which is great but not profitable, I’m happy to break even on those days if it helps people get back in the habit of going out.
We have had two staff off isolating while waiting test results but both were negative & both had colds after their kids went back to school as did I , I’ve also got my butchers closed down for two weeks after an outbreak amongst staff with 3 positive tests so far, it was reassuring that all the procedures we & our suppliers had in place worked so well and swift action taken , I’m glad we put the staff in bubbles so neither team has any contact with each other so we should avoid any temporary closures.
We have not been contacted by the track & trace people so I can only presume it’s so far so good & as far as I know it’s the same in surrounding pubs but we've had quite low numbers here throughout.
I need another chef but don’t have the confidence to hire one yet , I don’t want any more full time staff until I can better asses the trade when things settle , I’m still closed on mon & tues & really need to be sure I can at least half fill those days to make it worth it so just concentrating on the 5 days.
Im nervous doing the offers, as I said they make no profit but it’s for the greater good but there is the risk of another forced closure and everything spent on encouraging people out could be in vain & I’ll probably be kicking myself for wasting the few months we could open selling everything at cost but hey ho gotta roll the dice , I’m fully ready for another closure & can start on home delivery & collection from day one with full draft drink delivery this time round.
I can’t see the pub / restaurant game going back to how it was & think we are going through a major change to the industry , I only have one pub open & it’s up for sale although I don’t expect to sell it for any decent money, pre Covid it was around 600k now it’s up at 450k & I’m told 350k would be a result so many decisions to be made on the future both for myself & the pub as a building,
All in all I’m surprised how well things are after lockdown but don’t feel this is the full picture we are seeing & people are still enjoying blowing off some steam but the economic ramifications of Covid are about to get a lot worse & I’m not looking forward to the year ahead although charlton’s takeover later today & our charge to the champions league should soften the blow!
Great insight, cheers mate. All the best of luck to you. Different area to you but pub I was in Saturday (non-food) said it’s takings have been over 25% up in recent months and I know local cafes have never been as busy, benefitting from normal commuters being at home.
