I don't think many are moaning or being ungrateful or forgetting the plight of the club of late, we have heard that we are bringing in 2/3 more players and just weighing up who would be best suited, alongside what we may hope.

I have faith in Gallen and Bowyer to get things over the line. Whoever comes in will hopefully improve us.

Tangential question: If I get a basic ValleyPass subscription does it give me access to delayed extended highlights for every game? and how soon after the match are the highlights available? (NB: picture of no relevance and simply used to get someone's attention)

    Very scary lips and eyebrows.
I wouldn't kick her out of bed for farting
Inflatable lips and Troy Tempest eyebrows don't do it for me @Swisdom
Don't knock it without trying it ;-)
I once went out with a women with lips like, felt like I was going through a car wash every time I kissed her!

FFS no one has answered my questions.

  • Regardless of the very welcome ambition being shown by our new owner I think this season was always going to be a bridge too far for promotion. We started at a massive low point and in reality have started the groundwork for a promotion squad relatively well. Trying to find a 20 goal striker in the time and under the monetary constraints was always going to be the big challenge. Looks like we have failed in that respect. That’s not to say we might not be luckier in January or next summer. Think we’ll get on a bit of a roll by the end of November but I really do see our lack of proven firepower leaving us short. Late run into the playoffs is what I’m still hoping for. Can’t see top two no matter how hard I try.

Christ was it only a month ago we were wondering if our club was going to survive at all?
People have very short memories. I've no issue with who we bring in or where we finish this season (long as we stay up!). Build properly next summer, anything we achieve now is a bonus.

Not having a pre season with such a new group is going to be a huge miss imo.

I think it played a big part in our success during the last promotion season.

If we get to the play-offs, or amazingly, outright promotion, that will be a huge bonus.

We are rebuilding the club and the squad (under a wage cap, too), which will take time.

You never know, but we need to manage our expectations.  Repairing the damage done to the club in the last seven or so years will not happen overnight.

Still trust LB and SG to further strengthen the squad before 5pm, though.

    Don't panic, Mr Mainwaring!
There's still a two and a bit hours to deadline.

  • The clock is ticking and I’m starting to worry that Jack Wilshere won’t be coming to Charlton now!
Wilshere and Marcondes in midfield. What could've been...

But then we went into 2018/19 with a large amount of the squad missing

We went to Sunderland with a very weak squad

If anything pre-season allowed Bowyer to see that Taylor / Grant was going to be key else it was Taylor and Vetokele

And we have no idea how these new players will fit in to the team, if selected. Might turn out to promotion chasing, might be just mid table. But I wouldn’t be surprised if things don’t pick up over the next few weeks.

I thought we'd have at least one sorted by now but still plenty of time. My fingers are really crossed for three but two would be ok given the cap restrictions

Charlton and deadline day don’t normally go well together.

Maybe so and that may be realistic, but I think our new owner is expecting a lot more than as "long as we stay up" this season.

To be serious for a second, does anyone remember what happened with Danny Hollands? He was absolutely magnificent in League One the season we won that with a record points total.

The following season he struggled with the Championship and was quickly dropped from the team in late September.

It sounds like the story I’m hearing from Luton fans about Shinnie is exactly the same. Bosses L1, struggles a bit with the Championship.

Who here wouldn’t take another Danny Hollands in our midfield?

No doubt and that's great, I just won't be disappointed if we don't.

I said this before but I'll say it again: why such resistance to Smyth? He's young, quick, hasn't found his feet yet, but according to people who know better than us has the ability to break through. He'd supplement our other forwards and we wouldn't necessarily depend on him. I know we only have room for 1 or 2 more players, but given a choice between him and Sorba Thomas, surely the one with league experience is preferable for a promotion push? Or we sign both! :)
Because a few articles call him a forward rather than a winger so some look at the stats and decide he’s an inexperienced striker who doesn’t score goals.

There will be a social media meltdown if he signs before the striker is announced.
I think Smyth will be the Striker... Unless your talking about Thomas here?

Striker ? Another "striker" that doesn't score goals.

    2017–Queens Park Rangers19(2)
    2019→ Accrington Stanley (loan)15(3)
    2019–2020→ Wycombe Wanderers (loan)19(1)

    6 goals in 53 games in 3 years ?

Lets hope we can sign a proven striker, one that actually scores goals otherwise we'll be struggling to even get in the play offs.
    Not 53 starts though.

Shinnie is the first one I'm not sure about, but Bowyer knows best I guess. I hope he doesn't have me missing Oztumer too much. If he can't pass a football then there are going to be some words
Had you heard of him before today?

I thought it was his brother who is two years younger and played 150 odd games for Aberdeen.

I now realize that is Graham Shinnie and this one is Andrew Shinnie.

Shinnie should be okay for L1.

I note that he has one Scottish International Cap.
