I would take Maddison in a heartbeat but that's down to my faith in Bows and Gallen more so than Maddison's attitude problems.

MM is quality at this level and adds a goal scoring number 10 to the squad which is what we're missing with Williams, Oztumer and Aneke (although granted Oztumer has a good goal return at this level)

If Bowyer had a meeting with him in January (which in hindsight is so fucking stupid considering we was under an Embargo!) and liked the player enough to want him then in the championship, I'm sure he'll take him now.

I agree but MM was on Instagram yesterday sounding really really low.  Says this is his worst year ever after his dog died, his Mrs appears to have left him, he’s unemployed and it was his birthday.  He needs to get a deal and a new start so maybe we could be that option however nothing seems especially close for him right now.  Shame.  He could light up the valley
Surely he doesn’t want to make his life even worse by joining Charlton?

I don’t think we can say Lyle was vile off the pitch. He was the caring face of CAFC for many supporters, young and elderly. He did great charity work too. Ok, the social media stuff was a bit OTT and the fella enjoys a wind up but vile???
on the pitch he was a leader, chased all day and scored and assisted more regularly than most players ever have in a charlton shirt. And then he fucked it all up with the way it ended. Sad really! If he’d stayed I’m sure we’d have stayed up and he could have left for his big payday with our blessing and been remembered for all the good he’d done. It’s a real shame
I haven't seen one single poster say he was "vile". But he was an arrogant dickhead off the pitch, always attention seeking on social media. That little barney with Watt was very crngey and he didn't come off well. I don't think he's a bad fella deep down, but he craves attention which leads him to do stupid things in order to get it.
    Erm.......

Proper shame about Taylor - he was vile off the pitch and on social media especially but wow what a player for us on it at times. Last year at home top Luton he was unplay

Apologies missed that. You should probably have quoted Danny as it sounded like you were aiming your comment generally rather than specifically at that post.

I find it fascinating with the current look of our squad some of you are turning your nose up to Marcus Maddison. He is probably one of the best attacking players at this level. He might be bit of a helmet but I can handle that what I can't handle is what I saw last week against Doncaster.

I would prefer Andre green given a chance. But I agree we do need a lot more quality.

I would have MM over Andre Green. Simply because MM is proven at this level and his dead ball ability is ridiculous!

MM would be this seasons Ricky Holmes, explosive shooting and dead ball delivery.

You forget Ricky Holmes was consistently the hardest worker on the pitch, as well as our best player.

MM only plays to get his personal stats up.

Thing is flair players are often a luxury, so you have to weigh up what they contribute to what they don't. If Bowyer and Gallen want him then great if not then fine by me as I trust their judgement.

This. If we don’t get lucky with Schwartz ( if he signs) being a 20 goal striker then I really don’t think we’ll score enough goals to be a promotion contender.
Apart from Oxford and m Taylor, who else has a striker likely to get 20 goals?
Doncaster have John-Jules, unknown quantity but could get 20 as they'll be up there.
Hull have Wilks, he'll score goals, think he already has 3. Eaves is proven at this level but i think he's injured.
Peterborough have Clarke-Harris, he should score a few although they've started badly.

You'd expect Danny Graham to get a few for Sunderland this season.

We do need a free kick specialist. No team was fouled more than us last season in the Championship. We need to start making that count.

Is there any substance in the MM rumour or is it just a wishlist from here?

Just an option talked about on here as we were linked in January.

    Just a wishlist.

I think you are expecting a bit too much for an actual rumour on a rumours thread. This is Charlton Life dontcha know.... 😁
  • Do we think we have moved on from some of the players we had 'lined up' as we can now persue better alternatives?

I doubt it because the 3 we had already brought in were hardly from the bargain basement.  Never forget the Parkinson years......
  • Matthews is a little odd. I think him or his agent are playing silly buggers. Either that or he’s had an enquiry from someone else in the last couple of days and is exploring that.

Need some quality through the door ASAP!
  • We need a right back and a striker ASAP. I’ll happily let Bonne leave.

If we could genuinely get 2-3 million for Bonne Gallen could genuinely reinvest that well.

I Don’t think Bonne is terrible, but I think his tally last season is deceptive.

Think that the answer, get as much as you can for Bonne and rebuild from there, certainly need someone who can take any chances we produce, would say a winger and at least 6 more.

A lot areas seemed under par today, not helped by the ref , but you cannot hide the glaring gaps in the team.
  • Decent players in please .
  • Sell any one who wants 2 go.

    New CB
    New RB
New Creative CM (Bow obviously doesn’t trust Johnny and Otz not good enough imo)
    x2 New Strikers (Sell Bonne)
    New Winger/Inside forward

Bonne was poor today but any talk of selling him at this stage is nonsense. People are expecting him to be the new Lyle Taylor and he just isn’t that. He needs competition and maybe a spell out of the team.

Hopefully with Matthews, Schwartz and maybe 3 more real quality additions we can challenge.

If Sandgaard is serious about promotion this year then he should have no issue signing a few class players without having to sell Bonne.

    Schwartz. Could he play Wednesday?

For once will that competition give us a chance to put minutes into players?
