Thomas Partey appears to be money well spent - £45m.
He wasn't bad last night, the problem was the first half they were just awful. Second half they showed a bit more, but ultimately as previously mentioned Arteta didn't really have a great plan, in particular passing it round the back constantly which doesn't work for them like it does City and they always seem to make a mess of it. Too slow going forward, when Villarreal's main threat got injured early on it was there for the taking, really poor performance. Arteta has done ok since he has come in but similar to Charlton you dont know what Arsenal will turn up.
Lets be honest here. In Saka, Smith-Rowe and Martinelli alone, they've got some proper quality youngsters coming through. What they need badly are strong characters, those that tear their team mates a new arsehole if they make a mistake.
Look at their senior pros. Aubangyournan, gone missing for large parts this season (not all his fault, his Mum being ill, the Malaria, etc but being late for the NLD was a surprise); Willian, anonymous; The Brazillian Sideshow Bob, anonymous. Only man with any bite has been Xhaka and he's bang average. They are crying out for Guendouzi at CM. He can play and he purs himself about a bit. Partey will adapt to the PL. Tierney has been very good at LB. They've got the building blocks, they need a more experienced coach/manager (why they went for Arteta over Ancelotti only their board will know) who has a plan B when plan A isnt working. And as quiet as the a Cameldome usually is, they would have been on their backs in the first 5 mins if they wasnt pressing.
Difficult times coming up for Arsenal. They’ve got two options to be competitive with the big clubs in the premier league. Hope the current group of Saka, Smith Rowe, Nelson etc turn out to be excellent players and can turn them into a top side again. Alternatively, get lucky signing some cheaper players and hope they can find some bargains.
Arsenal cannot spend their way out of the current mess and surely can’t offer wages like the other 4 clubs.

It still feels a bit early for Arteta, the biggest problem is he kind of wants to play similar to City but doesn't really have the personnel. This season they have shown some improvement, in particular the youngsters Saka/ Tierney, however they do need an old head to step up. Willian has been a massive let down, early doors he started well then recently had a few reasonable games, i just dont think he cares enough anymore. Odegard whilst decent is just another Smith Rowe but without the work ethic so wasn't really needed imo. Lacazette is a great striker if he was played properly, he played CAM a few times this season lol. Aubey has been a massive loss this season, partly not his fault but also he hasn't been firing either. Partey too injured early doors, but will fit in perfect. Xhaka sometimes shows great leadership and quality, other times more often than not he goes missing(could have helped last night). Defence is still pretty shit tbf, Bellerin has been decent this season but last night was shocking, Chambers doesn't really cut it for me. still alot of work to do really.
Sorry went into it a bit there, i do watch all there games. Most spurs too funny enough, my dad follows Arsenal so i do root for them but its just shocking recent seasons.

9th place in the PL, 7 points behind Spurs, 9 points behind West Ham
Also only 46 goals scored in 34 games, that's 14 lower than Spurs (mainly) under the negative Mourinho!

Compared to where they were last season when he took over, personnel. I do find they have been very inconsistent, i just mean hes had good spells and recovered well from the bad start.
Watching Arsenal yesterday, they kept reminding me of us. Seeing as they were playing for a European final and potential Champions League place, that highlights their issues in itself.

Kroenke being tight as usual. Arteta was basically a cheap option.
Ancelotti is allegedly on more than 10m a year at Everton. Arteta on less than half that.
I’ve turned it off for that reason, I’d understand if this Man Utd TV, but a lot of neutrals will be watching and should have at least one non-Man Utd player. Will turn it back on for the game.
Villareal have no outlet. Each player spends an age on the ball as their is no one to pass to and eventually gets caught in possession. Hope Ooh Ray Henry has a plan with all this. maybe corners are part of it.

bit one sided with 3 ex Man U players as pundits.
At least Greenwood, Cavani and Bruno were looking to come deep for the ball.
AWB doesn't push up enough - means Villareal weren't stretched at all.
I'd honestly be tempted to bring on that Amad Diallo on for something a bit different, a bit of trickery. Maybe for Rashford, switch Greenwood.
On the flip side Rashford has been absolutely shocking.
