Ali Koiki? Former Burnley left back. Only 21.
  • Charlton: Phillips, Clarke (trialist), Lockyer, Mingi, Purrington, Forster-Caskey, Lapslie, Dempsey, Oztumer, Williams, Davison

Subs: Amos, Matthews, Oshilaja, Pratley, Koiki (trialist), Morgan, Vennings, Gilbey, Doughty, Washington, Bonne
  • Where’s Wierdu? Injured or not ready to make step up?
  • Ali Koiki a 6'1" left back most recently with Burnley, came through the youth ranks at Palarse.

  • Aneke not involved again?

Jay Mingi has been in the youth for a couple of seasons now, we picked him up from Wet Spam
  • Koiki made 15 apps on loan at Swindon, so has played senior football at least.

  • Looked at him in January apparently due to Rich Cawley tweet.

Seems like the Burnley fans were sad to see him go and felt he should have been given some minutes in the team at the end of last season. Appears to contribute well going forward so could be a good option if we wanted to play with wing backs.

Aneke has an ankle injury - SLP yesterday
  • Burnley offered Koiki a new contract in the summer but he rejected it. Assuming he wants to play first team football.

Brave from him considering the current circumstances going forward
I'm assuming that because of his age we don't have to worry about the wage cap?

If Wikipedia is correct he’s just turned 21. Maybe there’s a cut off point though, as he was 21 at the start of August?

Anyone know anything about Mingi? (clean comments only please)
He was at the West Ham academy. He is a ball playing centre half but from what I have seen not a good header of the ball. Can also play defensive midfield.

Really good player at u23's level. A quick and powerful holding midfielder that can play anywhere in the backline - very similar to Naby in terms of passing range and dribbling.
  • Notice Clarke remains with us when THD didnt
  • If we had Josh Clarke and Ali Koiki as our full-backs this year I would be amazed. Two outstanding players who could reach 10+ assists if they played regularly.

This stupid salary cap will not allow that to happen though - so Ben Purrington and Oshilaja it is.

Usually the U21 cut off in football is as long as they’re 20 or younger by January 1st of the calendar year.
