I think there's a huge difference between between underwhelmed at us signing him because there's better out there, or just underwhelmed because you can't see him firing us up. I'm in the second group and I think 90% of those not jumping for joy will be the same. Unfortunately between the takeover coming late and the wage cap our options were limited and I don't think we could have done much better.
Having said that, I don't think it's fair to criticise the posters who are not massively delighted. In fact, I think it's fair to say we wouldn't have been signing Bogle had we got Schwartz over the line, so Bows and Gallen weren't desperate to sign him. He gives us options, either as direct competition for Aneke or the two of them together. My fear is that Bowyer goes with the diamond which lacks width, and as such the crosses won't come in which you would think would suit Bogle.
Bowyer wanted 2 strikers after Bonne went so he may have wanted both.
The issue with people not being delighted is that he hasn't even kicked a ball yet. His record shows he can score goals, he needs the service to do so.
Football fans in 2020: Just Wikipedia’d this striker Dennis Bergkamp some older football fans kept banging on about, terrible scoring record, dunno what all the fuss was about.
Bit old for us now at 51... Not dismissing him yet, will probably still score more than Hemed.

In this extreme hypothetical, the point is that we don't have an Ian Wright, Anelka or Thierry Henry to score goals next to him, or Pires/Ljungberg scoring many goals from midfield. Our main striker is going to have to be a pure goalscorer.
Would you back any of our non strikers other than Maddison to get more than 10?
I actually think Bogle is a decent signing on a free, I just think it now looks ridiculous people being happy that Bonne was going thinking we were going to get 2 better options, this is the reality of where we are at. Bogle would be a good compliment to a Bonne, but his past history suggests we can't be hanging our hopes on him, Aneke or Washington scoring many goals
He looks to have something about him and think he can add to our squad, but it seems like an U21 loan is going to have to be our top scorer if we are going to be successful this year with the wage cap restraints now, and that is a huge gamble
No U21 loanee striker will score us 20 goals.......they'll be lucky to get half that amount.
About the only player to do that over the past 20 years is......Defoe, when he went on loan to Bournemouth.
Tammy Abraham scored 27 in 52 games for Bristol City when he was 19. And then 27 in 44 for Villa when he was 21.
That's a rare exception, there can't be many kids of that age who score that many on loan.
Even Harry Kane only scored 7 in 22 at Millwall and 2 in 15 at Leicester as a kid.
At this level and with what we have got, it looks ok to me. Welcome Omar. I hope it works out for us. Could be a pleasant surprise this one. Pleased with this weeks business. Let's hope 3 or 4 more through the door and we gell quickly. Should have enough to at least challenge for play offs this season. Don't want to be stuck in this division for any more than a season.
Don't know anything about him but we definitely needed a physical presence and channel runner type of player and he seems to be that - welcome aboard Omar- on the shoulder pace merchant required next
Bit late to the party on this but here's what my Cardiff supporting brother-in-law said about Omar from his time at the Blues:
"Had his moments.. bit of a trouble maker apparently.. got sent off for us a few times I think, decent FK taker. Never had a long run in the team but when he did he scored. Will do alright in League 1".
Bastard always likes to rub it in that we're back in League 1!

Agree but there are other examples albeit not as prolific - Harry Wilson scored 18 when on loan at Derby for example.
Equally, look at the influence that someone like Gallagher had - not necessarily the goals he scored but the chances and space he created for the likes of Taylor. And how much we missed him when he left. Diangana was on loan at WBA last season and was superb and they paid £18m for his services as a result. Mason Mount at Derby and Jack Harrison at Leeds were also fantastic.
The final difference, of course, is that unlike Abraham and Harrison we aren't asking them to do it in the Championship. League 1 is a big step down on that as evidenced by the fact that the three promoted sides would have finished 20th, 22nd and 23rd but for Wigan's points deduction.
We are unlikely to have a 20 goal a season striker but if half a dozen can score between 6-12 goals then we should do well. However, you could have Kane but if you can't get the ball to him in dangerous areas then he would be like a little boy lost. And for that reason we would do equally well, if not better, to secure the services of a Wilson, Harrison, Diangana, Mount or Gallagher.
We need 4 main strikers/forwards with one of them being a 20 goal striker. Washington/Aneke and Bogle don't appear to be 1 goal every 2 game players.
We have been spoilt by the goals by Taylor, Grant, Aribo and Bonne, in recent times.
The new strikers need to score as well as assist.
We wish Omar Bogle well.
Fantastic idea. Which 20 goal a season striker have you in mind?
We just sold him to QPR, because he didn't want to play in League 1, which after his stunning goal at Swindon was a shame for Cafc but was understandable from the player in his career.
Macaulay Bonne "head was turned" from that point on and consciously or subconsciously, his performances dropped big time.
Football coaching and getting the best out of players isn't an exact science. Taylor was a proven goal scorer at Wimbledon; Bowyer improved his work rate.
Fosu was a great talent if erratic under Robinson, yet went backwards under Bowyer. It happens at every club and that's why players are always nervous with a new manager.
National League have only just started so it's impossible to give a name from that League for the two League jump.
A loan from Premier or Championship club for a 19/20/21 year old goal scorer who needs games will be our best bet to go with our other Strikers/forwards.
Good signing, some of the comments from some of our fans, not so much on here but on other forums is laughable. Calling for Gallen to be sacked is the most extreme I’ve seen, utterly brainless.
Who do we expect to sign under a wage cap? Personally I’m really happy with the quality signings we’ve made, just need them to get fit and hit the ground running.
It's possible that Marcus Maddison could be our leading Goal scorer and assists player this season. As long as the other strikers get to double figures then sharing the goals between several players won't be an issue.
I so want Marcus Maddison to find his mojo after saying I wanted him at Cafc when he was at Gateshead.

And if we do bring in a young Prem loan who hits the ground running and quicly gets among the goals, just watch his club recall him in January to send to Swansea for more money.
Bowyer could not buy the best players because we had a transfer embargo placed on us a club. Consequently the clubs did their business early to avoid the salary cap. Once the club was sold and the embargo was lifted the wage cap was in place and Bowyer had that to deal with. He has had to duck and dive to keep within the rules. I am sure we will have a pretty decent squad once he gets the loans in. How about us,as fans give the new players a chance to actually play games before we slag them off. We are no longer a premiership club, we are a league one club which has to stock to the salary cap rules.

He went to the Championship and didn’t make the step up and hasn’t had a long run of games since.
At Posh and Birmingham he made more appearances from the bench than starts.
Portsmouth he played a bit more but still only made 7 starts, from the tweets I posted it seems he probably had a few injuries in his time there.
Last season he went to ADO Den Haag and played under Pardew and Powell, but still didn’t get a run of games.
There are plenty of examples of players doing well at one club and struggling at another. A one year deal shows he’s got to prove himself but a fresh start and League 1 football might be just what he needs.
The last ex-Grimsby striker we bought turned out reasonably well
Matt tees
A striker who can head the ball - gawd knows what power he would put behind one of today’s light-weight balls, goal keepers would be diving out of the way in case the ball hit them, gets the shit kicked out of him all game and still plays the next one...yep, one of those will do nicely as part of a two-man attack
I suppose the key thing is something we can't know. Is Bogle somebody who was on Bowyer and Gallen's wanted list or the best option when few are available.
I think there is evidence looking at his record that he can score goals in the right league and circumstances. We ought to be one of the better teams in this league and that and the quality (or lack of) in the league may allow him to shine.
We do know that Championship clubs have seen enough to have a punt on him in the past, even pay money for him so he could come good. With the right level of service, he may get 20 this year, who knows. Maybe, he will give defences enough to think about that it will open up opportunities for others.
What disapointed me most in the Sunderland game was how tepid we were. League One defences are best when you play in front of them and don't try to get behind them. They tend to be physical and don't like players more physical than them. It was clear that a combination of all of Aneke's attributes meant that Sunderland defenders gave him an extra half a yard last week and we started to look more of a threat.

By the way, grammar police, don't bother.
Not quite as good as the old classic "Bowyer had a dream..." chant

NO fish puns needed.
You can add Charlie Wright to the above.
Sensible to offer a 1 year contract to Omar Bogle because he has to prove he can do the business.
Professional approach from Charlton.
Dennis was so skilful But didn't travel well.
