Wasn't there another centre half, Connelly, with a link to QPR mentioned? Where is he now?
Who was the centre half @Cafc43v3r said we were paying a fee for?
Koiki played for the U23s. Said he turned down Burnley as wanted first team football but now Gunter has been signed in his position? Will we still want him and will he still want to join?
Bowyer said he wanted five (?) more when Gunter signed. Bogle has since joined so that leaves four.
One of whom will be a striker, we presume, as Bowyer said he wanted to bring in two more forwards when Bonne was sold.
Its so much more than just scoring goals. Players need to fit systems and form partnerships etc. He can bring other players in with his strength and knock downs from headers.
Bowyer can see how Bogle fits into his plans otherwise he wouldn't have signed him, he said they wouldn't panic buy and I dont think they have.
Bonne scored 11 goals sure but when he was bad, he was really bad.
Just give the guy a chance.
Well as I said in my earlier post maybe he can help create chances for others in the box but I'm scratching my head to think of who looks capable of sticking them away, hopefully maddison will weigh in with a few. It's not a panic signing only in the sense that we HAD to bring in someone, if the cap hadn't been brought in I don't think there's any way we would have signed bogle. Leaving aside non league Grimsby he has never scored more than 4 goals for a club & while wiki obviously doesn't tell the whole story I think it does tell us that he isn't a goal scorer.
You keep forgetting his 19 in 27 in league 2.
If we signed a player in January from league 2 with those numbers people would be extremely happy.

No idea, I assume its off.
My best guess is that someone at the club, possibly Bowyer and Gallen back out of a number of deals when the take over was done. Matthews thought he was signing on the Saturday before Lincoln.

Koiki’s a left back so would be competition Purrington.
I guessed Connolly when trying to work out who the CB we were supposed to be signing was (it was Lynch), was he ever linked with us?

Not forgetting his league 2 goals but unaware of the split between non league & div 2. Anyway he's done nothing since his league 2 season to suggest he can replace our leading scorer of last year & I don't believe we would have signed him if the cap hadn't been in effect. We have to make do unfortunately but we don't currently have a striker who will score enough goals to get us promoted.
It is true, there are only a few clubs you could see Bogle signing for at our level without too much suprise. Us, Pompey (well he already has), Sunderland, Ipswich, Wigan, Hull and Posh. Maybe one or two others, but this suggests he is a high end League One player.
He's not exactly played a lot of games at this level for any of the clubs he has played for & nothing about his record shows that he is in any way a high end League One player to me.

Many wrote off Kermorgant and many thought Hemed would score goals for us.
You could say he’s done nothing since his League 2 season, but that’s because he was signed to play in the Championship and couldn’t make the step up. He was then sent out on loan until his contract ended.
He should be capable at League 1 level - this is a league where Benson and Magennis got into double figures for us.
He could get 10-15 with Maddison and Doughty either side of him in a 4-3-3 getting similar. Two strikers getting 30+ between them isn’t the only way you can get promoted.
We also know Bowyer wants another four signings including one more striker. He’ll want them all to be players who improve us and not just add depth. Get these remaining signings right and we should be up there challenging.

If you were a left back that didn’t usurp Purrington, you’d probably retire

Shame you didn't make the Wembley play off Final or saw his steady Eddie performances last time we were in League 1.
I know most people look at how many goals a striker scores, but I prefer to see how many goals they are involved in. If he can score between 10-15 goals and assist in the same amount, I would be happy

The very people who are saying give Bogle a chance are the same folk who bollock our players after 15 minutes on the Match thread or at the ground.
Omar Bogle deserves a chance. He hasn't had a prolific season scoring goals recently But if he can emulate Matt Tees in being a good number 9 who was brilliant in the air and the sublime Clive Mendonca who scored the best ever Hat trick at Wembley in the sheer quality of the goals, then Omar will be the 3rd striker to have come from the Grimsby stable and been successful.
Ps. Rodney Green got injured and couldn't join Matt in being a success unfortunately.

If he scores ten goals I’ll eat my hat.
Can we clarify this, I assume you mean 10 or more.

Unfortunately Page could never be fit for Cafc.
If you want to be so patronising, I saw Purrington score a goal in that exceptional league one side we had in the playoff final (he and Parker were the dross that we could afford to carry with 9 other players that easily would hold their own in the championship or better ) and I saw almost every dogshit display he put in last season; it was pretty clear Bowyer agreed that he wasn’t very good by hardly using him from January onwards and I hope we can get someone better in shortly .

Of course we should give Bogle a chance, but we are allowed an opinion of their likely success based on their past performances, and perhaps more significantly their more recent ones.

If we all agreed the forum would be a boring place. We could disagree with a bit more respect sometimes.

Purrington bashing, eh?
I agree it was a rough old season for him last year: injury early on, pressed back into the team before he was properly fit because there was no one else, exposed and doubled up on - and then complete loss of his self-confidence and Bowyer hooked him after 30 mins.
But in the New Year, Bowyer often chose to play 3 CBs at the back, no room for a conventional back 4 LB - plus Purrington's no wingback, as everybody knows. Different gameplan, formation, tactics.
Before Purrington was signed on loan, we had Lewis Page again lost to injury and no specialist LB, and it showed - no shape to the back 4 and shipping goals. Ben came in and in Bowyer's words, "steadied the ship". During the terrific run in the last 12 fixtures that promotion season, we lost only 1 game, the game that an ill Purrington missed and Solly got himself sent off.
Purrington was so bad that he reclaimed his position immediately, we finished 3rd, won the playoffs and he scored a vital Wembley equaliser. And so bad that afterwards Bowyer signed him on a permanent contract.
League One may well be his level. But that doesn't make him a bad player.
Purrington is a solid full back. Personally I think we should be playing Doughty as a wing back, but I think it is good to have a player like Purrington in the squad.
I like stats, so put a comparison together bogle vs taylor vs bonne
What have I learnt?
1. Bogle's record in the championship is poor..... likely brought in get us out of League One? 1 year contract suggests so
2. Ratio goals to games is better for all players that are established and play many games in an individual league, usually playing for 1 side (which makes sense as teams build around them). Bogle has not even played 1/2 seasons worth of games in League one, so we need to give him a chance to show us what he can do. Player with the best ratio for that league highlighted in yellow.
3. Bonne and Bogle have a near identical record at National league level. Is Bogle the new Bonne? The type of goals he scores (relatively spectacular and individual) suggests not.
4. Despite Taylors lack of goals this season, he still has the best ratio in the championship of the 3 players. 5. Taylor was pretty consistent in Champ, League One, League two (unfortunately < 3.0 games per goal) 6. Other than a short spell in League Two, Bonne has a pretty consistent record (around 3.0 games per goal) across all the leagues he has played in, which is why he may have been worth keeping hold of. 7. All players, when looking at total games to goals, are roughly equal. This is an inconsistent stat though as the games were played at varying level so I don't pay it a lot of attention. Bonne for example, played nearly half the games counted in the National League.
Overall, I am surprised by the limited number of games Bogle has played in total ( I excluded his stint in Holland but was only a handful anyway). He needs a run of games and to stay injury free and there is every chance we could have a goal scorer equivalent to at least Bonne, but his total number of games suggest he might succumb to the Charlton curse and be injured.

They've not even see him play for Charlton yet.
Why not give him a chance to get fit, put on the red shirt and see how he fits in?
Proof of the pudding in the eating, etc.

Still remember his first home game (with Rodney Green) he ended the game clutching a blooded pad of cotton wool from a head injury.

Rumplestiltskin
I have typed that word as it should be easy to find this post at the end of the season using the search function. If I can remember that name that is!
