I know Leeds, West Ham and Newcastle are all bigger clubs but doubt any of them are going to get higher than where TS is aiming to take us and i'm pretty sure LB will be relishing being the man to see if he can get us there. What i've liked about LB, as opposed to Curbs, is he has openly declared his love for the club - despite being a west ham fan as a a boy and coming from Canning Town. His actions so far have indicated it ain't bullshit. Curbs was never prepared to say such things and that was always a black mark against him in my book. In Bowyer we trust and in TS we trust to ensure LB is suitably rewarded for his ability and loyalty as we go forward.
Curbs was Bowyer's manager when he broke into the Charlton 1st team - and must have made a huge impression on the young player, with his methods and strategies.

Over a period Curbs built Charlton into a relatively established Prem club (at least for a while).
Bowyer does seem to give the impression he wants to emulate that.

And now that we have stability and finance, perhaps Saandgard is providing the vehicle* to achieve that.

PS: *vehicle .... no range rover jokes pls.

  • It is going to be a job for any manager to keep WBA up. He is very likely to be in the same division next season staying where he is and having a relatively enjoyable season.
“Very likely” - Charlton to get promoted alone has an implied probability of 33% (were 3.0 on Betfair at the moment), add in WBA to get relegated to that scenario and the probability drops further.
  • I guess the fact that journo says Bowyer interviewed twice for the job before Bilic got it, suggests he'd certainly be interested, and that was when they were just a championship side.

But that was obviously pre-Sandgaard and he's clearly going to be a lot happier in his current role now than he was back then.
That would have been during the period when his contract at Charlton was expiring and Roland (or rather his henchman) was playing silly buggers. A very different scenario to now

Taking off my Charlton tinted glasses, if he was offered the job at a Premier League team who, despite some of the comments on this thread, have a reasonable chance of survival this season I reckon he would take it.
Its as simple as this really.
Usually I’d agree, but for Bowyer money and league don’t seem to be a motivating factor as much as other managers.

It was unbelievable that he didn’t walk in the summer. In my mind at least if he didn’t leave then, why would he now?

If this were to happen though you’d hope we make it very clear that WBA are allowed nowhere near Gallen.
If this is all true, why would Bowyer interview twice (as has been stated on this thread) for the same job, when West Brom where in a division lower, before the Billic got it?
  • I wonder if he'll be aware of the experience of Nathan Jones. Does wonders at Luton, has a mare at Stoke, comes back to Luton and does wonders again. Or indeed Eddie Howe who joined and left Burnley briefly in the middle of his time at Bournemouth

    Yes, very likely.
  • I can't see Bowyer moving from a club on the up and playing well to a club on the slide (albeit newly promoted) and in poor form .. Lee is staying put ..
Bilic ? .. always has been and still is a hot head, OK when he's winning, a poor man to rely on in a struggle ..
  • I don't think LB has the confidence to take on a "bigger" job at the moment. Think that he was happy to be cutting his teeth through the problems behind the scenes as it kind of took the heat off of him. Reckon TS coming in will now allow LB to express himself a bit more and it's all happening organically, starting again in L1 and, hopefully, working his way up to the top on the Championship and possibly the Prem.
  • Inevitable lazy press gossip, WBA failing, Addicks exceeding..... WBA probably going down and thereafter huge financial issues, Addicks probably going up no anticipated financial issues.  Therefore a total non starter for me but highlights the great job LB doing not forgetting of course collectively SG, JJ and the rest.

  • If it was West Ham rather than Brom I'd be worried. He can lead us to the Championship again, or more than likely be relegated with West Brom..... he has turned down other offers from similar sized teams, so I'm hopeful he'll stay.
  • Isn't lee friends with the director of football/ Technical director? Seem to remember something like that being mentioned when we signed Field and Leko.
  • Imagine sticking around during all the BS of the last few years and then walking when you're being backed and are doing great.

Its simply not going to happen

I think it is this person, brother of John.

  • Do we know which clubs Lee has had offers from ?

As long as United don't come after him to replace Solskjaer!

Apart from West Brom, there was reported interest from both Huddersfield and Cardiff around a year ago.

  • This is Bowyer’s first managerial role and while he’s doing a sterling job for us, doesn’t mean that would replicate elsewhere. I think Powell’s a good example of that!

Bowyer needs far more experience because the leap to the Premiership is vast and I’m sure he knows that.

So, let’s see him get us promoted and be successful in the Championship and then reassess.

I’m not worried about LB going at all,due to the fact he won’t be going anywhere, anytime soon...

ps this is my fact,as I also think he will ride this journey with us,yes to the promised land of Tommy’s dreams...if & a big IF we are no where near on track in say 2 seasons time & it’s not down to Lee being a bad manager ,just the ownership stuff all over again,then...he would leave with my blessing...& then it would be all back to worrying about our club’s future
  • Maybe another good analogy is Nathan Jones.
If Lee moves on one day to West Ham United or Leeds United or Newcastle United would it surprise anybody?
West Bromwich Albion are a fine club, and even their yoyo business model makes sense, but it may be better for Lee to take Charlton Athletic further.
Anyway, as the famous film quote says, we will always have Wembley.
  • I would think if it gets offered he will go because of the money - that’s how life works generally. I believe he is well paid at c £450k a year but if West Brom offered a significant increase maybe even double he will go

I really don’t think he’s motivated by money otherwise I think he would have left already!

He seemed content to just work his fishing lakes. hopefully he's doing as he said and completing something he started.
