@JohnBoyUK it is indeed the deepest rabbit hole you could possibly encounter.
HiFi upgrade junkie would run it very close.
Possibly, although the key word there is 'upgrade'. Most watch junkies don't upgrade, they just keep adding to their collection.
Fortunately HiFi has the benefit of the law of diminishing returns. It's possible to spend tens of thousands but I saw the light and stopped with Linn turntable and Naim amps which are mostly second hand and now getting on a bit as are my ears. Apologies for hijacking the watch thread !. Mine are mostly Breilings from a while back before their pricing went through the roof.
was a fun few hours. You select the parts to build a watch and then get to put it together with the support of the staff.
Might be of interest to some of you, I certainly enjoyed it. You end up with a decent watch at a reasonable price.
That looks like fun!
I really enjoyed it. You get the tools to take home afterwards. There are a few places online that sell kits to put together. Doing it with some support was useful especially when it came to putting the second hand on.
Watch prices are certainly dropping, I got the explorer for £1.4k below list (and it's 2024 brand new), was offered a Cartier Santos, whilst a 2023 still with all tags and stickers etc, retail £6,700, offered to me at £5k but with some negotiation will let go for £4,650, just not my cup of tea.
Also nabbed a Patek Nautilus when in Lanzarote - 40 Euro's :-)

Medium Model, Steel - Ref WSSA0029, steel and orange strap, white face. The guy did have a 0061 also, green face and strap but bizarrely wouldn't go much under 6k.

Interesting! Nice one with the explorer, that's a lovely watch 👌🏼
I wouldn’t consider myself a watch fancier, but my other half just got me a Hamilton Ventura for my birthday, if you know the history of this watch then you’ll know why I’m very happy to own one.

I’m still getting into some of the more premium ‘micro brands”.
Had one of these delivered yesterday and am very impressed with the finishing.
Nice, have a look at. the Main watches and Clemence also.
Had looked at both (assume you meant Maen?) previously - but both seemed to cater to smaller (<40mm) case sizes.
I can’t quite get my head round smaller watches yet.
Interesting on case sizes - 20 or 30 years ago the norm would have been 34-38mm and recently the move has been back to smaller case sizes rather than the 44mm+ monsters.
My collection ranges from 36mm to 44mm and the bezel size and lug to lug measurements are just as important (if not more so) than the overall diameter. Rob's Explorer (nice!) at 36mm will have a dial size approximating to a 40mm diver because the Explorer has a much thinner bezel. For example, my 37.5mm Clemence Munro wears just as big as my 40mm Sub.
It's what it looks like to the eye rather than getting the measuring calipers out!

I used to be the same as had only worn tag and breitling sports watches previously. Once you start wearing a 36mm your eyes soon adjust to seeing something smaller on your wrist. As Bob says, the look is the most important thing.
Two watches of huge sentimental value to me (and one worth far too much in £'s!)
The first was my dads daily that I remember as a young kid (so 70's) - think he got it for his 25th birthday so around 1968, manual wind, as far as I know not been serviced for 25+ years yet keeps almost perfect time. Worthless to anyone bar me. In immaculate condition considering the age and use.
The 2nd was my grandads, later passed to my father and then me, a present from Fyffe's for 25 years service as their importer in 1956, it's 18ct, even the strap, hands and hour markers, Omega lettering and badge, it lives in the bank most of the time, comes out for special occasions, last time I wore it was my fathers funeral in 2017. Very unusual clasp which was patented at the time, was offered £3k just for the strap! But it's going no where (literally!)

I had the road cycling "burden" in the last month then watch fancier in me has bubbled to the surface as well!

As bob says, sometimes the measurements don't give the full picture.
