moving the conversation away from historic tweets to actual cricket  (or the lack of.....)

Just looked at the England fixture list for this summer.

No Test matches during July  AT ALL.........and we only have TWO in June, the last one finishing 5 days before the summer solstice. However in July we do have 5 one-dayers & 3 20/20 matches though - which is useful as 40 overs must be a bind to get in during 15 hours of daylight !!!.  This is during the height of summer.

But then we do have a 5 match Test series against India starting in August, with 2 of them in September. The last one starting on the 10th, therefore likely to finish slap bang in the middle of the month.

How come we now don't play Test matches during summer, when the days are longer & (usually) the weather in better, but in Autumn.

    Bonkers. absolutely bonkers.
We didn't qualify for the final of the World Test Championship
    And.....?

Is that a tournament that takes place during the whole of July..?

Golfie you are right it is totally bonkers and not what the cricket going public want either. It can't even be a financial decision. A 5 day test match, which are nearly always sold out for at least 4 days, must raise more money than a one dayer.

Had we qualified for the Final of the World Test Championship, we would have been playing Test cricket in June and July and August and September this year, as well as December.  And January and February.  More than half the months.

As it is, in July, we will have to satisfy ourselves with just eight England men's international matches, four women's internationals, 39 Vitaly Blast matches, sixteen county championship matches, 30 Royal London Cup matches, eight domestic women's T20 internationals and the first 26 matches in the The Hundred.

I know that isn't enough for everyone's delectation, but the players have to have some time off.

    I agree.

But a lot of the England Test team don't play the one-dayers, or the 20-20's. Or don't play for their counties. But of course, they play in the IPL (where Stokes got injured) instead of taking a break then.

silly me for thinking that playing Test matches, for England, in an English summer (like between June & August) should be the priority. And if the Test "final" was scheduled in England, in the summer, then the ICC are also partly to blame or the ECB for not standing up to them.

Don't worry, as i expect the youngsters we expect to attract to be the players of the future will have something better to do once they break up from school IN JULY.

The ECB don't care much about test cricket. Why else would you prepare all young county players by getting them to play in April, May, September and now even October. Kent have 1 county game between and September. And people wonder why we can't produce a spinner of any quality!

The good news for England - Kane Williamson won't play
The bad news for England - Trent Boult is likely to play

Let's see how many ducks we can make this time...

Probably.  Like watching low-priced, short-form cricket, tailored specifically to attract and retain their attention in the form of The Hundred.

Crawley's confidence looks shot, I'd leave him out of next game in all honesty, unless he scores big in 2nd innings.

Mewnt to post this at lunch but didn't press sned.

That's what this opening partnership is here for. Win the toss and bat on a decent pitch but with overcast conditions for the first hour and a half. See off the strong opening bowlers an set the game up for the middle order to cash in against the weaker back up bowlers.

Shame Crawley couldn't back it up.

That’s the end of Crawley England career ….
     Very much doubt it.
Not that long ago people were calling for Burns to be dropped.
Then they were calling for Sibley and now Crawley.
The sad truth is that they are probably the best three we have at the top of the order.

Now Root goes cheaply, cloud is heavier after lunch and bowlers are using it to their advantage.

Course it's not! He's still young and will be back, loss of form is temporary, he has class and that's permanent!

23 years old and a double century to his name, think we’re gonna see Crawley in an England jersey for a long time yet.

Unless he pulls a superb second innings total out the bag, that lad is getting dropped.

Bit of a break now until our next test match so time for someone to find form in county cricket. Crawley could start making some runs and be brought in. Equally if Bracey makes some runs in this match he could bat 3. And Hameed is an option.

Pope and get Buttler back in.

    Crawley effectively just resigned
That level of simply not bothering to do one's job properly can't be tolerated
At least the captain will lead by example...
    oh wait
    nope
he doesn't give a hint of a shit either...

Just read it's 7 weeks till the next Test against India.
That could be time for him to get back into some sort of form.
If not then move Root up to 3 and Stokes at 5 with Pope to 4, just an initial thought. However with 7 weeks till the India game the selectors should have time to look at options.

So bracey will play as specialist batsman or Buttler?

Think Crawleys gone mate 4 runs in 3 innings and dont think he faced more than a couple of dozen balls.
