Very good discussion going on about Crawley's current loss of form. They are talking about loss of/low on confidence. Rob Key, Hussain and others just saying he needs a score to get rhythm and confidence back, as he has the class to be a superstar!

NZ's 4th and 5th bowlers are much weaker than their first 3. Now that Henry has been taken off we need to put pressure on Mitchell (and Patel if he comes on) so that we can put more and more miles into their bowlers legs and make them tire.

An interesting comparison with Rob Key, who also played at 3 I think. His England record was very similar to Zak's now,  an average of 31 after 15 Tests, with one century, a double one (221)

Crawley's confidence looks shot, I'd leave him out of next game in all honesty, unless he scores big in 2nd innings.
    Who’ll bat 3?

Pope and get Buttler back in.
So bracey will play as specialist batsman or Buttler?
I would chose Butter all day long over James Bracey, but then again I'd also rather have Bairstow in the team. This feels very much like an experimental test team, a lot of new faces while the old guard go off and play white ball.

Bit of a break now until our next test match so time for someone to find form in county cricket. Crawley could start making some runs and be brought in. Equally if Bracey makes some runs in this match he could bat 3. And Hameed is an option.
Is there much county cricket between now and the next test?

I would like to think that crawleys 200 will keep him
on ahrad of Lawrence if Lawrence doesn’t score big in this match

I'd still back Zak although a bit of time out of the side, playing for Kent may well be the best thing for him - I'm sure he will then come back into the side and stay there forever.

I’d rather bairstow never plays test cricket again. Vs India he was absolutely awful, has had multiple, multiple chances and just can’t do it.

Even some white ball slogging in the Blast and 100 would surely help Zak at least get some bat on ball

Totally agree, Zak Should go back and play for Kent for the next 5 years and let's see where we are then.

And bring Matt Henry back with you !

He's got a very healthy batting average, plenty of bullseyes and tons in the bag.

I wish James Bracey all the best success in his test career. He's up next, will to struggle to be worse than Crawley.

    This.
He's a great white ball player so just leave him in that format.

He isn’t struggling to be worse than Crawley. He is doing a very good job at being worse

    Trent Boult on a hattrick

    Bracey 2 innings, zero runs...

Bracey looked like he was about to burst into tears, poor guy. Another duck, a golden one at that.

Terrible bit of batting, given the previous wicket

So far this series Crawley has 2 runs, Bracey 0, so Crawley is definitely better  :D

Pretty Criminal that we have allowed Mitchell to go at barely above 2 an over. He is only a bit more than a part time bowler - we really should have had enough to take him on and out the attack.

Lawrence has been seriously impressive since he’s come into the team. Strikes me as the type of player who can stand up when the chips are down, seems to relish in situations like this. Scoring at a good rate, too.

A decent knock today and well timed (for his own personal standing) on a day when Crawley and Bracey failed again
