Can anyone recommend a pub open in the City, near to Tower Hill, for some leaving drinks with a colleague? We've got a table booked for burgers but are only allowed to stay for an hour and a half, and we're trying to avoid drinking cans on a bench by the river!

The brewdog bar up there would be my shout
We're booked in there for burgers and beers but only allowed the table for 90 minutes. We couldn't get into The Minories so now have a table reserved at a cocktail bar near my office.

Pricey, but maybe the roof top bars in the hotels are open nearby like the double tree on pepys street.
First time at a pub since lockdown, the King's Head in Staplehurst. Two pints of Masterbrew - cask ale tastes so much better than bottled beer. Back on Friday for a birthday dinner.
Personally I have zero interest sitting out in the cold. Walked past a restaurant about 8 last night, saw a couple eating dinner with duffle coats zipped right up.

Are places doing an evening trade?
I do wonder if outdoor eating / drinking in all weathers will become more of the norm.
I've seen a few people obviously going to the pub armed with blankets and I've eaten and drunk outside in plenty of ski resorts where its parky to say the least.
As they say, there's no such think as bad weather, just inappropriate clothing...
For St George’s day yesterday, we had 4hrs in one pub from 2.30pm and then from 7pm till closing in another which all 60 tables were full all night, they had a band on and a pizza can doing a roaring trade. It was cold, even with the beer coat.

I’ve not reopened, asking people to enjoy a meal in the cold outside in April & the rules I’d have to adhere too go against everything we do.
I’ve been on holiday down in Dorset last week & did have an outside meal ( gave up drinking NYE) & there seemed to be plenty of people enjoying it in the daytime but the evening was very different, in both Bournemouth & Weymouth the younger bars had trade for drinkers but the nicer looking food places were closed or very quiet.
Im largely pensioners so asking them to eat outside is out of the question on an April evening, I could seat around 100/130 outside in normal times but with current rules that could be down to 30 depending on the size of each table ( if a table of 6 come to eat then all good but a table of 2 relaxing over two drinks for an hour takes up the same table).
I could have changed the seating for more tables of 2 that could be put together if needed , I could have brought & powered enough heaters to keep the garden & patio warm & I could have put up marquess etc & I could have hired the extra staff it would take to deliver a drink 120 yard round trip to the top of the garden but what I couldn’t do is pass on these extra costs to customers while offering them a sub standard experience.
It took some debate as after being closed for so long we are desperate to reopen for many reasons but after talking too both customers & staff we decided that if we can’t do it properly we won’t do it at all , I think past reputation doesn’t hold as much weight as it did 18 months ago & after being shut so long & numerous ownership changes & refurbishments pubs & restaurants have been reset & start off on an even keel so for me the first impression will be more important than ever & we need to nail it .
we have been beavering away this past six months to ensure all guests will be blown away with both comfort & safety & by holding off on the reopening I think we make sure we don’t get lost among all the other reopenings & initial wave of people, after 6 moths the trade is a bit rusty in all areas & ive heard of many horror stories of the first week , not all the fault of the pubs but just the whole trade from suppliers/ maintaining equipment , staff , new menus etc takes time to get in the swing of things , there also seems to be a lot of anger over the new prices , some haven’t been out for a pint & a meal for a year+ so are struggling with the increases that are normally staggered through the year , obviously COVID has cost pubs loads to comply & that also needs to be made back, along with the massive increase in food costs over the last 12 months but with all sectors struggling pay rises have been scarce & people are understandably a bit peeved at paying more when income hasn’t increased & possibly decreased , hopefully by the time I reopen everything has settled down & we are all returning to normal levels of moaning!
Anyhoo I’ve just realised that while I write moaning about cold April’s I’m sat in my garden in loverly sunshine with a vat of coffee & pastries & the caffeine’s kicked in so I’ll stop before I go on to grapevine post proportions & ponder if my reluctance to reopen is just down to me enjoying moments like these !
First pub day for months yesterday. Lovely in the sun, but a bit chilly later on, so had a curry delivered to home to eat in the warm. So good to have a pint poured by someone else.
George and Dragon, Wargrave in Berkshire. I live about 200 yards away. It survives on its great location, service has always been poor. I thought booking and table service might improve that, but after just 45 minutes the waitress said they'd be wanting the table back, despite there being plenty free. Unlike other booking systems, theirs didn't ask how long you want to book for nor give any indication of a time limit. We said we'd stay until the other tables were full, and we got more beer, but they haven't worked their system out at all.
Went to two places in Henley afterwards, and everything worked much better there.

The Minories, by Tower Gateway DLR, big beer garden.£26 for 4 pints, I'll not be coming back here again.
Before the Tate Modern was built and the South bank of the Thames became trendy, the prices there used to be quite reasonable...
We were not even given heaters!
My first post lockdown pub pint, I couldn't resist especially when the pub had so many outside tables. Rebellion Overthrow, £4.20 I think
The pub is famous for being near Chequers and thus popular with Prime Ministers
The only beers they had on draft were Timothy Taylor Landlord and Bexley Brewery Amber ale. Guinness and various lagers were on too.
It's hard work getting a drink nowadays.
