  • Performance didn't matter tonight, just getting the win. Our season is a dying flame, but we kept it alight by winning - back this up with two more wins and we might just get it burning again.

Things to like: solid, organized, switched on for 99% of the time. We look like a team again.

Things not to like: final ball, decision making in the final third -  a common theme this season but something that will hopefully come as confidence builds. It was subtle, but we did look like we were playing with a bit more freedom after we took the lead.

I think we can start to at least tentatively look up again rather than over our shoulders.

Glad for the 3 points & bastards keep us dreaming still.

However, let's not  sugar coat it. It was a poor game. We had just 5 shots on target & 1 of those was a rebound for Washington's 2nd. We looked very slow & laborious and no way do we look like a team on the verge of a run.

    Pluses.

Looked better when Millar went back onto the left wing - me & Curbs know what we are talking about.

Watson looked steady & held things together in midfield. JFC & Morgan both did ok. Washington took his goals well.

    Minuses.

Corners & crosses abysmal. 8 corners to their 3. They scored with one of their 3 & all 8 of ours didn't look like troubling anyone.

Too slow getting anywhere & big gaps between the front 2 & the rest of the team.

  • Not pretty, who cares, efficient all round, one down side, our crossing was I think the worst it has been all season, could not clear the first defender. We did it twice and both times nearly scored.Roll on saturday.

Such a pity when we had games in hand we screwed up. Now it’s unlikely that even with  a decent run it will pull us up short because too many of our rivals have games in hand over us. It’s not over but I’m certainly not hopeful.

I did chuckle when one of the first things he said was it’s good to have Pratley back
  • Not a great performance, but a workmanlike one against very average opponents. We never looked like losing, but it was the sort of game which could easily have petered out to 0-0, or the nightmare scenario of conceding to a set piece goal and losing 1-0. A crucial result, the teams immediately above us all dropping points, whereas the teams below us (Oxford, Blackpool, Crewe) all won.

Pleased for Washington, who gives a lot for the team. Millar was definitely better on the left, I'm puzzled why he's been shifted to the right so often recently. Stockley is great in the air, but we became very predictable just playing it long to him all the time.
  • A win is a win.

it was organised and efficient and we done the job. Fairly flat though, particularly conceding at the end, but will take the three points.

Thought the ref was generally generous with some 50 / 50s throughout the game. So much now at our level seems to be around winning free kicks. Probably noticing it more viewing via TV.

Not sure on that pen at all, both players jumped at each other, with JFC launching himself from a distance with no interest in the ball. Fortunately he was under the Northampton player so hit the deck first. Had no confidence at all in Connor taking it but he put it away very composed.

Switching Millar back on to the left made a big difference, as did Chuks when he come on.

Thought Pratley and Pearce were very solid, and I can’t remember a single time I said ‘for f*** sake Maatsen’, so that’s a positive.

we move on. Another win on Sat and all of a sudden    those who wrote the season off a couple of weeks ago might pull it out the bin and start smoothing it out again

The Simpsons' guide to our season.

  • Morgan made a difference.  Chuks gives us so much more.  Millar on the left.   Far less mistakes.  Standard of League 1 is poor.  We should be pissing this division.

Still plenty of football to be played! This is not a very good league at all and we are still in with a chance!
  • A win keeps us in with some sort of chance, but with only 12 games left we probably need around 25 points to have a good chance of making the play-offs. A tall order but not impossible.

Need to average two points a game realistically for the rest of the season so eight wins from the last 12 games - seems unlikely.
  • As I’ve said before, we have no right to think we are going to be outstanding and just roll teams over. Especially with what we have been served up this season. So let’s all be grateful for an upturn in results and see how close to a successful season we get.I no longer have any expectations from now on this season so just hoping to have a valid reason for the use of some warm custard (instead of it being a dirty little secret!!!!)🤣. Anyway well done Lee and the team, on to the next one!.C’mon Charlton!!👍🤞.
  • In our household we reckon at this moment in time we’ve got a 10% chance of making the playoffs.

Cant believe it’s taken until March to record our first home win at the Valley this year.

Hoping we can build on this , it’s just nice to get 3 points again.
  • Hanging on the edge of the Play Offs....we are clearly nowhere near the team that went up via them in 2018/19
But we are much closer to the 2017/18 team that scraped into them and were soundly beaten in the semi.....
  • I thought it was very close to a red for the challenge on Pearce. Unlike Chucks when he got sent off and won the appeal, their player was not jumping straight up, but was jumping at an angle towards him and his elbow should not have been that high. Seemed to be pushed into him.
  • Relief.
