Brilliant - all deserve their place in the history of our club.
Henners paraphrasing Dylan Thomas is my highlight of the article!
Someone has to be the intellectual one Bob.
Most remarkable outcome of the night? Me getting a feckin promote
There was an assumption made from the account that you were an active participant in the boardroom action. I had visions of MuseumMan bursting into action, pinning Southall to the floor with a rarely seen historical artefact (I had in my head a 1947 rattler wedged to his throat). 12 months on we learn you were a mere external loiterer.
With regret, 2 Promotes have been removed as a result. Sad times.
:-)
Bloody hell, he has nicked my promotes as well.
That's the price I have pay for helping to save the club.
This will be remembered when I next time I speak to my mate, the chair of education at Bexley
What I don’t understand about the story is how long does it take for Southall to get a haircut. He is balding and shaves his head. It should have only taken 3 or 4 minutes. Did his calendar really read 9:58 - posh haircut. 10:00 - slag off staff while getting posh haircut. Who thinks like that?
The more I hear about this slimey bastard, the more I sit here and explode with rage that he is not doing time,or floating down the Manchester ship canal. We have had many superb books written about the trials and tribulations of Charlton,I think a new one about the last ten years could be a best seller. Now all the slime have departed to no doubt return to their various ponds, and back under their stones,we can look forward to a club well run and with employees who actually love the club as much as the supporters do.
Also, MS is a lucky boy that Tracey didn't give Carl a call.
Forget Carl. If she'd posted on CharltonLife I'd image there would have been more than a couple of enthusiastic volunteers to pop down to the ground to have a word in Southall's ear.
Messing with Tracey and our other devoted employee's, for the average fan, is like messing with a family member.
I think when I read about that incident that night, any doubt anyone might have had about whether Southall was a charlatan, was confirmed and he was finished.
I felt concerned for our club, but immensely proud and never doubted that whatever needed to be done, these servants would do it. Into the breach these fearless people went.
It brought tears to my eyes then and all over again now thinking of what these people have done and continue to do for the club we love.
Get the feeling Farnell was waiting in the car park just in case he could take a Range Rover home that night.
Still feel Amis and some of the other players are currently getting off lightly.
Although I agree with you mate dont forget Amis has lost the ability to do what we all crave and go to watch our club. He wont be able to do that again so I'm not sure he has got away totally free
Perhaps not in a high profile seat but I’m sure he’d go unnoticed in a bobble hat in the East Stand.
Exactly most people wouldn't know who he was or what he'd done but hopefully he'll meet payback time asap along with all the other wrong uns.
Most people wouldn't recognise him but it only takes one person (the wrong person) to know who he is and things could turn nasty. If I was him I personally wouldn't ever risk showing up again, but we've already seen he's got a hell of a lot of front.
Wqnt to make it clear this isn't a threat. I wouldn't recognise him or ever do anything more than mutter under my breath.
Huge thanks to the boardroom superstars and great telling of the story by Benjy.
I'm rather in awe of Mick Everett - love the bit about the police turning up and all knowing him. Wonder if they were the sane ones who marched to the centre circle and advised the ref that "for safety reasons" the penalties in the Doncaster play-off semi-final had to be taken at the Covered End?
“So it started to get a bit personal. And then he said to me, ‘actually, you’re fired.’ And I went, ‘fair enough.' And he said, ‘Can I see that letter again?’ I went, ‘Now you’ve sacked me, I don’t have to show you f*** all.’”
Any playwright, or film director or writer would give anything to include such a brilliant exchange as this. The speed of thought and choice of words from Mick is simply awesome.
That article makes me both proud and angry! That prick really did think he was something didn’t he? Lee Amis better not show his face down the Valley ever again! Scumbags the lot of them. It changes my perception of TN but only slightly.
I have supported this Club for 73 years and I have read hundreds of stories during that time plus seeing some things first hand prior to the 70's. I don't remember any of those stories bringing me to tears as this one has. The people directly involved deserve recognition for their part in this sage. Without them and other people who love the Club we wouldn't survive. I salute you all.

Not sure what to make of TN after this, was he just stupid/naive/ caught up by mouthalls lies. He does seem to have been "working" with/ taking into confidence Tracey, & he brought the Rumanian lawyer in who it appears to have been a big help in sorting things within the club. Or do I have the wrong end of the stick ? Whatever, thanks to all who played a massive part in clearing the way forward to where we are today.

Can’t say I’d recognise him. Need some ‘Wanted’ posters plastered about.
Bloke grinning in the row in front of Southall, red tie.

Thank you to all the hard working, loyal staff who put their necks and jobs on the line for us. This epitomises 'Charlton', and for that I can't thank them enough.

I had the opportunity of meeting him briefly in the player's lounge when we played Fulham at home. He seemed a slippery bastard then, all front, loving the 'vice chairman' tag.
Me and a colleague were there looking at supplying all new lighting, from floods to panels in the Peacock suite, needless to say that didn't come to fruition. At the time I was gutted to lose nigh on £500k worth of potential business but I'd swap that all day long for the outcome we have now. Not sure my manager thought the same (Spurs!)

.the boardroom four the boardroom four Hear the crowd they roar for you now roar us onward evermore forward forward ascend once more
To the tune of King Crimson 21st century schizoid man, but perhaps with a flattened fourth in the third line so it ramps up for the last part which resolves on the Gm/dim7th (nice)
A bit basic I know but best to keep these things simple
Good luck with that, most of us struggle to manage "Valley Floyd Road" at the right speed mate...
Great effort from all involved. The article should be printed, framed and placed in the museum, as well as being sent to the boardroom of every professional club in the UK with pictures of all the guilty parties (Southall et al, not Henners, Tracey and Mick...). 😁

Whilst it’s undoubtedly clear (and probably was from day one) thst Southall and his crew were very bad news for us, I don’t think we’ll ever know for sure where Nimer is concerned.
He definitely wasn’t what he was made out to be in the initial release to the fans, nor what we hoped he would be. What percentages of him is solid access to real wealth / blag by connection/ outright con artist is up for speculation. I think you could counter a fairly convincing argument for all three but without nailing any one of them for sure.
Just very glad it is all over. The club is still standing, in the football league and at The Valley, and that’s all that matters. I wasn’t convinced of that at one point.

Articulate and brilliantly put together account of what happened. And, of course, my thanks and immense gratitude also to all concerned. Genuine heroes one and all.
I still allow myself to be infuriated with, and full of contempt for, Southall. It angers me so much that he's still swanning around, untouched and seemingly unaffected by what he perpetrated and what he got away with.
I need to take back my remote control and manage my thoughts, feelings and emotions about it/him; it's unhealthy!

An amazing evening in the clubs history and thankfully the car lurking lawyers time in the sun was also short lived.
To many scumbags tried to feast off the carcass of 'our' beloved club, thankfully they didn't account for our support, one that doesn't ever give up.
Anyone that randomly fires people in a short fuse shooting from the hip kind of way, is likely to be someone that's just a narcissistic moron.
He's a joke and it's very embarrassing.
I highly doubt that kind of behaviour would have had any chance of existing at the valley 20+ years ago.
A lot of morons - the virus human.
