I'm quite sympathetic towards Bowyer today. He had to keep it tight to prevent another load of goals being conceded and he kept the same team as far as he could.
We're poor at home & Shrewsbury were 8th/9th on away form. The logical score was 1-1.
We kept it tight first half and prevented the need to chase the game from early on. Quite boring but probably necessary. We needed to step up in the 2nd half, yet came out sluggish and fell behind.
At least he made the necessary changes and if Aneke hadn't missed another open goal, would have been 2-1 up.
Then with an open game some of our midfield and defenders fell apart towards the end.
Watson gave away the ball leading to their goal and could have chased back & closed the man down, but either didn't bother or wasn't capable, possibly the latter.
Maatsen should have closed down their man, but didn't and just let him cross at his leisure, which was poor.
Gunter let the goal scorer get away from him.
Then Gunter, Famewo, Watson and to a lesser extent Maatsen seemed to fall to pieces and we were fortunate they missed 2 easy chances.
Washington MOM & Pearce had good games.
Amos & Stockley were ok.
Gunter (see above), Maatsen who made so many runs and passed to the opposition on every single occasion, Famewo (see above), Millar, Morgan, Watson and static sideways, backwards Pratley were poorish.
”Pros and cons. First half we started well, should have been leading at HT” ”We didn’t do the same second half. Stopped doing the things that caused them problems. We were slow and the tempo stopped” ”they got a goal and we had to make changes as we were sluggish” ”we became better team again. If Chuks scores we win the game. Conor took his chance well” ”but we could have lost the game. Vulnerable on the counter attack” ”point better than nothing. Disappointed. But players should be proud of themselves how many games they’re playing. They kept fighting until the end”
This has been a complaint of LB's for the duration of the season.
We have a bigger squad than the majority of teams in this division. Ignoring the Football League Trophy, when we played the kids, we've had 38 games in all competitions. Hull have played 41 games and are 16 points clear of us. Both teams have had 5 games in the last 15 days - Hull have taken 15 points (and beaten Peterborough and Oxford in the process) and we've managed 8 points. Burton have won all 6 of their games in the last 19 days and of course beat us as well as Peterborough on that run.
The good news is that we have 56 days to play our final 11 games. So let's hope that this is the last we hear about "how many games they’re playing".
The old guard the disappointments yet again. Just ooze players coming to the end of their careers and only going one direction on the form chart. I’d rather Smith and Morgan started in centre mid than Pratley and Watson.
There is a tiny tiny chance that we can make playoffs this season, we aren’t going down, so why not just attack teams? Try and actually play some sort of fluent football.
It just so boring and then becomes desperate. Not fun at all to watch.
I agree completely and the only time them two should play at CDM Together is if we are trying to defend a 2-0 lead in a play of semi final, other than that they just get in the way.
Stockley, Aneke and Washington should have been up top together for last 15minutes that's what teams wanting to win and realise the season is gone if you don't win do.
Give Morgan a 'Le Tiss' licence and let him roam creating. He played Smyth (who bottles every tackle) top of the diamond but don't play Albie there. I'm a bit dumbfounded with it at times.
Fair result. We didnt do enough to win it & they could have done with a couple of nearly chances in the last 5 mins.
When you start a game with Watson & Prately as your 2 main midfielders then you're not looking to be "expansive" or attacking. We need a Kinsella or a Parker - someone to drive you forward. Until then we will serve up stale, boring & lifeless football.
Cant wait for this season the finish. I hope TS has deep pockets as it will take quite a bit of spending in the summer to get us anywhere near good enough to get promotion next season.
I am not a EFL manager but at least I know you can't play Watson and Pratley in midfield together. Yes Pratley as CH and Watson in midfield but not together in midfield. I also said it on the match thread and Curbs said it after Maatsen keeps running into Millar's space and he cant get 1v1 with defenders. Some decent stuff first half but second half was dire.
Whilst we have turned (somewhat) of a corner in terms of our recent form, we slumped back again today.
Really disappointed to see Pratley and Watson picked together in midfield again - this regularly leaves all of our attacking players isolated and is generally very negative. When we made the substitutions in the second half, we looked better and I just wish we could have started closer to the midfield we ended with. Either Shinnie or Smith should have been playing from the start instead of Pratley.
It's very clear that L1 teams are simply not going to let us have time on the ball and spray it around. I miss the performances of Cullen and Gallagher last year - someone picking up the ball, looking up and playing proactive passes. When we play with Pratley and Watson, everything is backwards and sideways. Teams just set up deep and we lack the creativity with both of them in the team to get ahead in games.
We added pace with the addition of Millar and Jaiyesimi to the team, but they are both misfiring at the moment. Steve Brown nailed it today with a comment about Millar's awareness of other players in close quarters. Millar looked so dangerous when teams gave him space, but as awareness has grown, they now all know to just play tight on him and he doesn't have a way to deal with that. His performances have really tailed off recently and it's really disappointing.
Sadly, I think we are going to need another big rebuild in the summer. We've had some real misses with a few of these players and they simply don't look hungry enough. Hopefully the removal of the salary cap and offloading some of the high wage / old players for fresher faces will do the trick.

Enjoyed that. Nice, tidy play in defence and the middle of the park, some movement up front and something to build on as we hit the business end of the season.
I literally can’t tell if you’re serious @cabbles?
I don’t understand some people on here. Same people that were leading with Bowyer’s a disgrace for personally naming players in negative post-match interviews, are now not happy with Bowyer’s words because he’s being more positive and supportive towards his players.
Bowyer didn't sound too bothered post match, like he's given up for this season.
If he came out and had a moan at a poor performance, people would say he’s lost the dressing room.
If he came out and praised the bits we did right, people would call him mad and blinkered.
Now he’s come out level headed about where we’re at, he’s apparently given up on the season.
Sums up this place
Why? Not a dig towards you here, but genuinely do you think he is doing a good job? To me he doesn’t take much responsibility.
Agree with this about him not taking responsibility. Didn’t he say in his interview something along the lines of telling the players at half time to go out and play the same “but they didn’t”. Digging out the team instead of questioning his own strategy on why he kept with the slow mo pairing of Watson and Pratley.
they didn’t go out and lay the same coz there manager probably tweaked a few bits and made improvements - ours didn’t and let’s be honest, we could have carried in playing that first half for another 45 mins and not scored - not playing your best striker and most creative midfielder at home in a must win game - bonkers

I think most people are more bothered with the football on the pitch than his interviews. I thought the football under KR was unwatchable but this is actually worse..
Charlton have higher standards than Swindon - sounds like bowyer has been drilling the defensive side of the game into jaysemi - might explain why he now looks confused and shit
We just about deserved a point against a team that bely their position in the league. if we had a PROPER striker and a Goal Keeper who knew how to kick a fucking ball out we possibly would have had three points. we must hold the league record for hitting the woodwork 😂😂😂👎👎👎👎 poor performance overall.
Ask yourself this question. With the amount of players out of contract this year and the loans likely to go back. If you were TS how much of your money would you give to LB to build a new side ? He knows he will end up with 7 pratleys and 3 Watson's starting every week. And another 7 on the bench. The bloke is devoid of any positivity either on the pitch or off it imo. I was really hoping he would pull through but it isnt going to happen. Even if he makes it to the playoffs and we get promoted his style of football wont win over many people
If someone could get me a print out of bowyers half-time team talk it would be handy because if he’s able to send a whole team to sleep that quickly, it would be great to be able to try it on my6 year old, cos he never wants to go to sleep!!!🤣. That second half was appalling!!.
