I don’t mean to discredit Redhenry in the slightest as I’m sure he’s got plenty of contacts, and he’s got stuff right in the past... but he said Doughty was off in October, he said that we were signing 6 players in one day in September and he said Lyle had done a u-turn and was playing until his contract expired in June.
I wouldn’t act like Adkins is a done deal. Calm down people.
I don't quite understand the hate for the Cowleys? Seem like nice people who have done a good job at every club
They have a history of producing horrible, niggly teams that win games by disrupting the other team. Also a history of long ball tactics. Not the Charlton way
Not sure what to think about Adkins, but the more that I do, the more that I see that it makes sense given what TS wants to see on the pitch.
He is kind of the Anti-Bowyer, in many ways. Attacking football, erudite, intelligent, empathetic and positive.
I hope it works - it may not of course, but that's football. Either way, I'm getting behind him if he is to be our new manager; In fact, I'll get behind whoever TS decides to hand the reins to.
It's Tommy's decision to make and I trust him to do it his way; by God, he's earned it.
P.S It would be great to see JJ retained at the club, though. Got a lot of love for him and always will have - proper Charlton.

To be fair not many teams in league 2 and below (where they have spent most of their career) knock it round like Pep's Barcelona do they?

We've hardly played any beautiful football recently.
Football is a funny game. Anyone appointed could turn out to be a massive success or a massive flop. Anyone appointed will get 100% support.
But with all the type of names being touted around, someone like Atkins would feel a real deflater. Like being told that someone with money is taking you out to dinner and your cab turns up at a Brewers Fayre.
I think it’s pretty telling how much most of us get caught up in modern day Sky Sports style sensationalism of signings etc. Instant to reaction to Atkins is pretty deflating, yet I’m sure when many of us think about it logically over a bit of time it makes more sense.
Experienced, with miles under belt. Proven success of getting out the league we’re in. Plays attacking football and likes developing young players. Positive attitude. Intelligent man who will buy into building a sustainable model as opposed to simply focus on short term.
Just isn't an exciting name and won’t be wearing the latest clobber from Macimo Dutti on the touchline. And if you are wanting us to discover the next big young thing, it won’t be that.
But the considered opinion is a bit positive than the instant one.
Warming to the idea of Adkins, just hope that this doesn’t mean the end for Jackson.
One thing I don’t understand is why not wait until the end of the season and reassess? The list of candidates will likely be a lot better in 6 weeks
Because you need to plan the playing squad for next season?
You can plan the squad for next season at the end of this season, there’s still plenty of time to do business before the first day of pre-season.
In ideal world, yes you have a man in place before so he can get a feel for the squad but this isn’t an ideal situation.
It feels very rushed and reactionary to be handing out a long term contract to someone just days after the previous manager resigns.
Peter Varney quite interestingly said this week that the season Powell won the league with the huge summer turnover, the majority of the players had been lined up by April.
Goes along way in explaining how some teams tail off completely when there’s many players about to imminently move.
Stick £50 on Jackson and he swaps places with Adkins
Prove it.
Why would I bet £50 on a bloke that I don’t think will get the job?
You wouldn't.
I was joking.
We could go halves?i?!. If it comes off I take 70% to cover my admin fees.
before you say no, it’s too late. I’ll be sending my debt collector Chris Farnell to collect what’s mine. I mistakenly added 2 00,s as well. You already own me 5k.

I dunno, I think like most of our issues with Bowyer that he used to be more of a young/vibrant/positive option with attacking football but that seemed to fade over time is my exact same impression of Adkins. Obviously a complete opposite personality but similar in that aspect.
Adkins also has a more proven success recently of not being able to get a Sheff Utd team, who like us probably see League One as not beneath them, but as not where they necessarily belong higher than mid-table, a team which Chris Wilder then took over and took them to the Premier League. I believe Chris Powell got us promoted from League One more recently than Adkins has a League One promotion and other people are quite rightly suggesting that was a long time ago.
Earlier in the thread I thought that really we should get out of this league at all costs, before worrying about what model for a club we are trying to build, but Sandgaard's comments were very much we start building our long term vision of the Premier League/European football now, so if that's what he thinks, I just don't know how you could see Adkins as that long term person for that.

And one of the main criticisms of our last few seasons was the squad was thrown together at the last minute.
It would be just another excuse/reason for the same again next season wouldn't it?
If we aren't tapping up" our top targets and talking to any of our out of contract players we want to keep soon you can bet your bottom dollar someone else will be.
Also Bowyer didn't just up and leave on Monday morning without anyone knowing about it did he?

Seeing your profile Picture: Claus Jensen is manager of Danish 2nd tier team, Nykøbing FC.
Surely anyone would take a low salary and a £350k bonus for promotion
