If it’s true that Thomas is flying over to talk to potential managers I’d be surprised if a deal has already been done. You’d think he might want to speak to a handful rather than just one who’s already got the job?
Although RedHenry normally has good intel of course.
Have nothing against Adkins per se, he just seems like a ‘safety first’ choice.
Could probably have already got things sorted via Zoom with the candidates and Ged Roddy, so may be coming over to rubber stamp rather than actually interview, especially if he wants it sorted before the weekend as he said.
  • Does the job come with a Range Rover?
  • I mean, ‘Nigel Adkins’ Red and White Army’ does scan.

    Other than that.....
  • If any manager takes us from league 1 to the stage where we can appoint someone like poch we would all be happy wouldn't we?

Right now if anyone took us up and kept us up they'd be doing a good job.

As long as we don’t end up with Ralph whatshisface and losing 9-0 every few months
  • Ok - so if it is Adkins then fine - for all the cock and bull spilled on here. I’ve always thought of him as a manager who brings on young players from the youth system - probably from his Southampton days ..... but....,exactly who or what have we got in the youth system these days? The last time I looked the cupboard was being emptied by flogging the up and coming all over the place. Are there any likely to inspire over the next two years?

That's a strange one too, how has that guy kept his job

Adkins didn't build that Southampton team, it was Pardew's team that won L1 really.

You look at the players he had - Schneiderlin, Fonte, Lallana, Lambert, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Jason Puncheon, Dean Hammond, that's a L1 cheat code!
They then lost Ox, but brought in Jack Cork and Billy Sharp the next season.

Adkins signed Lallana and Fonte, not sure about the rest.
Pardew signed Fonte the previous season.

All those players I mentioned in 2010/11 were there when Adkins was appointed in September 2010.  Of course Adkins did a good job to manage them, but he inherited an amazing side, with Pardew allegedly sacked for "off field" reasons  :D
  • Adkins seems like a very friendly bloke, sort of manager players like and want to play for, rather than being slagged off in the press and critiqued to try and force them to play.

As we've seen with our squad (particularly since January, which many considered to be excellent on paper), you've still got to get them playing and believe in what you are trying to get across to them. There were always mumblings on here and on Twitter that Bows had lost the dressing room, particularly in regard to the alleged incident with Jonny Williams being reduced to tears. From what I understand about Adkins and how he strikes me as a man, he's a motivator through positivity and encouragement, as opposed to thunderstorms and old school Fergie teacups thrown across the dressing room.

It's that kind of thinking, in my opinion, would lend itself to building a team that can get out this league. I'm cautiously optimistic that this could be a good appointment.

Here's the note Adkins left his Southampton players after he was sacked

I think after Bowyer we may be entitled to a bit more wholesomeness about the place. I know you don't necessarily win anything being a nice guy, but players ARE humans...
After the way things ended with Bowyer and after binging Ted Lasso the other week, I'm well up for some wholesomeness right now

Lallana came through the Southampton youth setup
    The Bournemouth branch?
    LOL Wikipedia warrior?!

I just checked myself, regardless of where Lallana played football before the age of 12... id say he’s still a product of Southampton’s academy

Didn't Bournemouth get about 5 million quid when he went to Liverpool?  That's how I knew

That was a bizarre deal, a 12 year old signed with a sell on clause!

Adkins Charlton as Cowley opted for Pompey, that's what i was told...
A friend of mine who was the former Chairman of Portsmouth FC told me yesterday that the Portsmouth board were divided between Danny Cowley and Lee Bowyer for the Portsmouth job.

You are friends with Milan Mandaric?
    No it is not him.
My friend was the Finance Director who was then made the Chairman when Pompey were on the verge of going into liquidation.
  • Reasons Against Adkins :
    Glasses
    Nigel
    56 years old
    Hasn't won Premier title.
    Cafc fans love to moan
    Went to university
Born across the Mersey from Liverpool
    Reads poetry
    Ex Goal keeper

    Reasons for Adkins:
Three times promoted from League 1
    Physiotherapist
    Intelligent
    Good man manager
    Calm under pressure
15 years younger than Roy Hodgson.
    Very good tactical manager

100% support from me who ever Thomas Sandgaard picks; unless it's Steve Evans or Tony Pulis.
Karel Freye would be problematical.  ;)

Charlton fans have been underwhelmed since 1921.

You have ‘reads poetry’ in the wrong section.
  • Adkins now 1/2 on sky bet, looking nearer
  • Can’t see it being announced until Thomas is at The Valley. When’s he due in ?

He most recent time in L1, with Sheffield United is less convincing though

2014/15 - they finish 5th under Nigel Clough with 71 points
2015/16 - they finish 11th under Nigel Adkins with 66 points
2016/17 - they finish 1st under Chris Wilder with 100 points

I have nothing against Adkins. But JJ is the equivalent of a free bet. He should at least be given a handful of games. We were going to stick with Bowyer after all.

If it is Adkins in the next day or so, I would imagine he was already being lined up to take over from Bowyer. He has to be rushed through now in case JJ starts to make to strong a case for himself. But we shall see.
  • Jumped to the last page cos too far behind
    Nigel Addickins a perfect fit
Dull , grey and boring just like me
Unless someone has done it earlier in the thread (I've not read the last 40 pages)  I hereby claim © Addickins

  • Please let the gods of footy NOT give us Nigel fecking Adkins!

This would be a massive step backwards.

Kenny Jacket or the Cowleys, even Pulis but not Adkins. If he got the job over JJ you wouldn't blame him for not hanging around.
  • Adkins and Jackson as co-managers might even be what's on the table here, we don't know yet
