  • Happy enough with Adkins and Jacko, if JJ stays.
  • Adkins works for me.
If Thomas thinks that Adkins is the best person for the job then that is fine.

I don’t think JJ is good enough.
Being a manager requires a lot of skills. Sadly I don’t think that JJ has the experience required to fulfill Thomas vision for Charlton.

I recall 30 years ago when Richard Murray appointed Curbs & Gritt, and then a short time later got rid of Steve Gritt. There was uproar about us losing a Charlton legend. But Curbs gave us the best experiences as a Charlton supporter in the 54 years I have supported this club.

Trust the Chairman and maybe the good times will return again.
  • Howe or Wilder - if we can't get either of those then JJ and Curbs - If i'm honest i think i'd prefer JJ and curbs anyway - come on,  first game back, curbs and JJ in the dug out - its what footballs all about - emotion, and that would be an emotional return for arguably our greatest manager. Add to that JJ knows this and the league above like the back of his hand. He just comes across as a winner to me JJ - one of those people who just does things right and gets the respect and results in return. The fact he looks like a film star probably helps. Him and Sandgaard releasing a record before our first Champions League final !!!
  • As an aside, far too much emphasis seems to be getting put on managers imo, particularly intra game when players make mistakes. I’m starting to feel some fans think the managers control the players like computer games.

good managers don’t guarantee success and bad managers don’t instantly mean failure. All of these people have been in football all their lives, their approach and decision making is relatively narrow and overlapping.

The right budget, coaching, support and medical team and facilities, training facilities, recruitment policy, contract management, club strategy etc are all just as important as the man who picks the team and sets the tactics and formation.
This is one reason why we have Rod Geddy - a lot of this will be under his purview and I think we can realistically expect a lot of change around that post-season.

A former colleague of mine who is a Blade is gutted at Wilder’s departure from Bramall Lane and that it was a massive own-goal by the owner. He thinks he may well go to Celtic but would be surprised if he wanted to go to a League One club. Personally I’d love to see someone like Wilder or Howe who has rebuilt and gained promotion to the Prem coming in to the role - but depends on how their style fits in with Geddy, Gallen and (hopefully) Jackson.

As much as I respect JJ, I think its too early for a permanent manager role. I think he will benefit from managing somewhere else when the time is right. Maybe he will return to us at a later stage perhaps?

I can't believe the abuse Adkins is getting.  He worked miracles at Southampton and Scunthorpe and also did very well in his most recent job at Hull. It may be an 18 month break but his last job was in the championship and he did well. Granted he didn't do well at Sheff U and Reading but overall a very good manager at this level. Sandgaaard has money but people's expectations are way too high, 4 or 5 League one clubs have more money than us. Realistically Adkins is a great appointment.
Tend to agree - have a look on social media at the comments when he left Hull, all positive towards him & angry at the owners.

Good experience, knows the lower leagues, seems a positive person when we need something freshening up at the moment, knows Roddy....

    Downside: terrible first name.

We should refer to him as Kins.

    ;-)
  • Abuse? What abuse?

we will have to call him by his middle name, Howard. I'm sure he won't mind.
  • Was really keen for us to get Adkins 10 years ago or so, hasn't set the world alight since then but he always tried to play good football and fans of other clubs he has managed seem to like him which is always a good sign.

Wouldn't be my first choice but will certainly get my backing if he does come in.
  • In fact, his final matchday squad was exactly 50% made up of academy graduates:

Everything is pointing towards Adkins making sense actually the way TS spoke yesterday

I always presumed that Jack Stacey came through at Luton

  • One thing we can be sure of if Adkins comes in, we won't be playing hoofball. He likes a quick passing game with high tempo building through the each third of the pitch.

We may come unstuck in the defensive third as I am not sure we have the ball playing defenders required to do that.

That's for the summer I would guess

Two things stood out for me in that article.

    This...

“ Adkins believed in playing open, attacking football, which delivered plenty of goals.”

    And this...

“With due respect to Pochettino, what does he know about our game? Everybody will be feeling sorry for Nigel Adkins."

So after a little think, I’ve decided that we should be going for Pochettino and not Adkins.
Na not even in top spot in Ligue 1 with the PSG squad, what a failure!

I was thinking the same thing
