Bottom line is though chaps that whoever it is won’t be our choice. We’re fans so have to get behind whoever it is until just like Bowyer many of us couldn’t. If it’s Nigel Adkins and he gets us out of league one and then stalls in the Championship then we’re making progress. Cross our bridges as we come to them. Three league one promotions sounds very good to me.
I can't believe the abuse Adkins is getting. He worked miracles at Southampton and Scunthorpe and also did very well in his most recent job at Hull. It may be an 18 month break but his last job was in the championship and he did well. Granted he didn't do well at Sheff U and Reading but overall a very good manager at this level. Sandgaaard has money but people's expectations are way too high, 4 or 5 League one clubs have more money than us. Realistically Adkins is a great appointment.
Adkins works for me. If Thomas thinks that Adkins is the best person for the job then that is fine.
I don’t think JJ is good enough. Being a manager requires a lot of skills. Sadly I don’t think that JJ has the experience required to fulfill Thomas vision for Charlton.
I recall 30 years ago when Richard Murray appointed Curbs & Gritt, and then a short time later got rid of Steve Gritt. There was uproar about us losing a Charlton legend. But Curbs gave us the best experiences as a Charlton supporter in the 54 years I have supported this club.
Trust the Chairman and maybe the good times will return again.
Howe or Wilder - if we can't get either of those then JJ and Curbs - If i'm honest i think i'd prefer JJ and curbs anyway - come on, first game back, curbs and JJ in the dug out - its what footballs all about - emotion, and that would be an emotional return for arguably our greatest manager. Add to that JJ knows this and the league above like the back of his hand. He just comes across as a winner to me JJ - one of those people who just does things right and gets the respect and results in return. The fact he looks like a film star probably helps. Him and Sandgaard releasing a record before our first Champions League final !!!
As an aside, far too much emphasis seems to be getting put on managers imo, particularly intra game when players make mistakes. I’m starting to feel some fans think the managers control the players like computer games.
good managers don’t guarantee success and bad managers don’t instantly mean failure. All of these people have been in football all their lives, their approach and decision making is relatively narrow and overlapping.
The right budget, coaching, support and medical team and facilities, training facilities, recruitment policy, contract management, club strategy etc are all just as important as the man who picks the team and sets the tactics and formation.
This is one reason why we have Rod Geddy - a lot of this will be under his purview and I think we can realistically expect a lot of change around that post-season.
A former colleague of mine who is a Blade is gutted at Wilder’s departure from Bramall Lane and that it was a massive own-goal by the owner. He thinks he may well go to Celtic but would be surprised if he wanted to go to a League One club. Personally I’d love to see someone like Wilder or Howe who has rebuilt and gained promotion to the Prem coming in to the role - but depends on how their style fits in with Geddy, Gallen and (hopefully) Jackson.
As much as I respect JJ, I think its too early for a permanent manager role. I think he will benefit from managing somewhere else when the time is right. Maybe he will return to us at a later stage perhaps?
The only solace I take from Adkins is that he played a huge part in reshaping Southampton from this league all the way to the top. Southampton are the kind of club we should be looking to emulate imo.

Tend to agree - have a look on social media at the comments when he left Hull, all positive towards him & angry at the owners.
Good experience, knows the lower leagues, seems a positive person when we need something freshening up at the moment, knows Roddy....

Downside: terrible first name.
we will have to call him by his middle name, Howard. I'm sure he won't mind.
Was really keen for us to get Adkins 10 years ago or so, hasn't set the world alight since then but he always tried to play good football and fans of other clubs he has managed seem to like him which is always a good sign.
Wouldn't be my first choice but will certainly get my backing if he does come in.
I reckon if it is Nigel Adkins it will be an appointment that has been considered in the light of a range of club developmental ambitions. I also reckon it will be a decision reached because Mr Sandgaard will have weighed up a lot of factors. It may be something that feels to some a rushed decision, but I think that rightly or wrongly it wouldn’t be rushed so much as reasoned. Adkins has a record that has quite a degree of depth and reach, and if he is appointed I would be both intrigued and hopeful. Adkins may not be ‘exciting’, and he may fail, but to me such and appointment makes sense.
I’m keeping an open mind on this appointment. From the outset, I’ll say Adkins wouldn’t be my choice to manage CAFC but hey-ho, I don’t own Charlton
You can look at this in two different ways. There’s the list of managers who have been out of work for months or years who’d be interested and have thrown their hats into the ring. Perhaps the likes of Cowley and Adkins? And there’s the list of managers that Thomas might want to headhunt. The likes of Laudrup, Wilder and Howe?
I think Bowyer leaving has been brewing for a few weeks. You don’t realistically leave a job and walk into a new one on the same day. And Thomas doesn’t strike me as the sort of bloke who makes a hasty decision. He’s not panicking.
His appointments at board level are astute. His choice of manager will be equally as astute and he’ll be wining and dining him over the weekend ...
I'm seeing it as a bit weird the possible appointment of Adkins is being described as lazy. He's not the one I would necessarily go for either, but I don't know that 'lazy' is fair. Sandgaard will have looked and he will have settled on people he thinks fit his criteria, he'll speak to them and then if they convince him they can take the club forward he'll hire them. I really doubt he's just sat in his house with a tin scrolling through texts from Roddy and saying 'yeah, sod it, that one, crack on' once Adkins' name pops up. Sandgaard hasn't put a foot wrong so far, it's a bit much to call his hiring process lazy just because you don't like the manager he might have settled on
One thing we can be sure of if Adkins comes in, we won't be playing hoofball. He likes a quick passing game with high tempo building through the each third of the pitch.
We may come unstuck in the defensive third as I am not sure we have the ball playing defenders required to do that.
I'd be pretty confident TS hasn't just started looking at potential replacements in the last 24/48 hours either....am sure he'll have done his homework
he's earned the right to employ whoever he chooses to be honest
Most opinions seem to be based on the fact his name doesn't wow us as new and ambitious. But that might just be exactly why its the right sort of appointment.
If you look at his recent involvements with sides, you have to add the context of his time there. Barring a season with Sheffield Utd, he has had success (relative to the clubs situation) everywhere he has been without spending vast sums and has an excellent track record for both bringing youth through and getting promotion.
Add to that the fact he is an experienced football man who has known success in quick succession and therefore what it takes to develop the infrastructure of the club to sustain that development. We are in the 'rebuild' process and steady hands who are a known commodity can build the foundations for success in the future.
Add to that he's a positive, popular character who encourages passing football. It may seem un-inspiring to some, but personally I think its the right move.

Potentially of interest, mentions that Adkins gave 10 Academy graduates their debut and steadied the ship.

Any fan who has always wanted us to give our youth players more of a chance, he will certainly be the man to do that (if he is given the time).
Everything is pointing towards Adkins making sense actually the way TS spoke yesterday
I always presumed that Jack Stacey came through at Luton

Welcome Nigel Adkins

This...
“ Adkins believed in playing open, attacking football, which delivered plenty of goals.”
And this...
“With due respect to Pochettino, what does he know about our game? Everybody will be feeling sorry for Nigel Adkins."
So after a little think, I’ve decided that we should be going for Pochettino and not Adkins.
