Agree, but we have also signed Big Mac from PompeyCovered End said:I have to say Ipswich signing both Pigott & Fraser is disappointing for me.
It's less than 4 weeks to the start of the season (7 weeks to the end of the window) and the only totally NEW recruit so far is Dobson.
Yes, we brought in Stockley and retained a few others.
I still have faith and I'm still confident of us bringing in more players, but I'm not as confident as I was a month ago about us smashing through this league.0 -
What about Mcgilvery?Covered End said:I have to say Ipswich signing both Pigott & Fraser is disappointing for me.

We must have some cracking signings lined up, I mean literally cracking.3

Plus the keeper - though that effectively is a straight in/out replacement - but yes the lack of "new" faces is slightly concerningCovered End said:I have to say Ipswich signing both Pigott & Fraser is disappointing for me.

Dobson was surely that for Pratley...killerandflash said:

I doubt Mcgilvery will be any better or worse than Amos so while he is a new signing he has only replaced a player that left.
I do not consider him as strengthening or improving the squad.6 -
Let’s have it right, despite the majority saying chill out and wait until after the euro’s, teams in our league are investing and buying quality. At the start of the window we needed a
squad overhaul and we still do. Our team is so far off competing top two and the rumour mill is dry.19 -
Well I understand a few fans getting anxious as others teams have done their bussiness earlier than us but if you listened to Gallens early interview he clearly said we sign a few before pre season a few during pre season and few right at the end.Covered End said:I have to say Ipswich signing both Pigott & Fraser is disappointing for me.

One would hope this means we know who the targets are and know when they will be unavailable.
I would assume based on that will sign 3 or before the season starts and then right towards the end the loans will arrive.
Its risky bussiness if you ask me and with a tricky set of fixtures to start off with we risk blowing any chances of automatic or at least an up hill challenge.
Saying all that i wont judge until the window closes and then where we at the point combinded with how the squad looks then will determine how we should feel0 -
Another one we missed out on…..

Maybe the wage/salary cap remaining would have helped us this season more than we initially thought!0

It's just that 2 of the players I hoped we may sign have been snapped up by Ipswich (even though a few on here said Pigott would never sign for us).0 -
Our targets aren't separate from anyone else's though. All the "big" L1 clubs will be fishing in similar waters, and chances are we've been beaten to one or two of our targets by direct rivals.CH4RLTON said:

The same applies to loan signings too.1 -
Not massively panicking as there's time, but I don't think it's unreasonable to be a little bit concerned when you see good players go to your rivals.
We need a good quality striker to replace Aneke, Piggott would have been a good signing. Crying out for a playmaker who can contribute a few goals, Fraser was right up there last season, need a couple of quality wingers and Edwards/Burns would have been decent signings. Still plenty of quality out there, I think people are getting carried away with Wigan but I like the look of Ipswich.3 -
We’ve missed out on a few players by not offering enough in wages. Listening to Gallen’s recent interview sounds like he’s working in the constraints of a shoe string budget. We’re not blowing any league apart anytime soon.Edit: Thomas had gone on record to say we are only going to do a little bit more than last season, which we’ve probably already done by signing Stockley.0
-
Disagree, no indication of that at all. Working to a budget yes, but so are Man City.RedRobin said:We’ve missed out on a few players by not offering enough in wages. I’m not bed wetting. Not yet anyway because we will sign players. What’s slightly at this point disappointing me is that I think it’s fair to say we’ve missed out on quite a few targets and are now looking at players further down our list. There has to be a reason for missing out but at this point you have to think it most likely to be money. No proof of any of this being true but it seems to me the most likely reason for our inactivity. Are we simply being out monied by clubs throwing silly amounts about or are we running a really tight ship. We’ll see soon enough.3

Shoe string or just not as big as Ipswich or Wigan’s budget?RedRobin said:We’ve missed out on a few players by not offering enough in wages. But how does that equate to ours being shoestring? We've got absolutely no right to demand we splash loads of money. Although I do agree that TS shouldn't be making silly statements if ours isn't at least competitive. At this moment in time, there's no proof either way of how big/small our budget is.RedRobin said:

And I'm quite happy with that if our rivals budgets are ridiculous for L1.0 -

Playing devils advocate, do we know for a fact that any of these players were actually targets or are they just players that individuals on CL just thought would do us?, I do get slightly confused also, how so many people seem to know what we can and cannot afford budget wise. What is our budget?,what players have we knowingly 100% bid and missed out on?. I’m hanging on to the saying, no news is good news……until we get news!!😂. It would be nice to sign someone we are pleasantly surprised by though. I think NA has ambition so don’t expect him to be happy with mediocre signings. But I know nothing!!.😂🤞ShootersHillGuru said:I’m not bed wetting. Not yet anyway because we will sign players. You lot are judging our transfer window when another team makes a signing.
Yes there are decent players going to other teams but there are plenty of decent players out there who we haven’t heard of/played against who would love to come to Charlton.
How many of us were dreaming of signing Innis, Famewo, Cullen, Bielik etc. before they signed?
Judge it when the window slams shut.10 -
It feels shoe string if it’s only a little bit than last season when there was a salary cap, that’s what TS has said. I hope I’m wrong and we are being competitive in the market but on this showing it doesn’t look like we are.cafcfan1990 said:

TS has said we are going to do a little bit more than last season, an educated guess would be it’s not the same as our “rivals” who are Ipswich and Wigan..Addickted said:

It is quite often the way, the players we sign not knowing much about, end up being the best ones. We need some gems like kinsella for example. Didn’t have a clue who the hell he was before we got him!!. The rest is history.Bolderhumphreyreid said:You lot are judging our transfer window when another team makes a signing.

Yeah, I'm going to want a source on that. And not "someone said it on this thread," an actual statement where he said those words.RedRobin said:

Because it looks like they are budgeting massively over their income.Valley11 said:Yep. It’s concerning now. How is it that Ipswich and Wigan are able to secure top targets and we aren’t? And we need a fair few players.
We can’t have it both ways imo. We can’t bang the drum on how important stability and sustainability is, then kick off when clubs around us pay over the odds on a short-term gamble.Frustrating as it is.44 -
Paniiiiiiic
A player that was bullied by Pratley has gone to a promotion rival!
There are no rumours so everyone must be sitting on their hands.
Sandgaard is obviously skint.
The club is burning!10 -
Gallen also spoke about NA, TS and himself wanting characters that bought into their philosophy and are the right fit for Charlton.
Maybe we have had discussions with some of the players that have gone elsewhere but decided that they weren't the right fit or they thought they were bigger than what they are. Fraser is obviously a good player, but so are Gilbey and Morgan at this level. I personally feel Morgan is ready to step up more this season. As has been said already, when we played MK, Pratley had Fraser in his pocket. Maybe he stood out alot because the MK team was built around him and he was their star player. Stockley stood out for us as we built things around him at the end of the season, hence the other interest in him. Yet we won that race and got Stockley.
Also we don't know the calibre of the players we are lining up. There could be other players that are even better that we are trying to work for and say Fraser, Piggott etc are demanding 10k* a week yet we have a deal lined up with a better player for the same of less money. I would rather the better player than someone who thinks they're bigger than they are.
There's still time to go and NA has said himself he wished players were in earlier but we can't always dictate things if other clubs need to do their business first. We will bring players in. I'm hopeful that the players will be of a good standard and be right for NA and CAFC. Our future is looking bright under TS and this is his first full season owning the club. He is still learning and I'm sure things will fall into place soon.2
