Scotland did a job on us, and did it well. Southgate just didn’t have the balls to tinker his system and just replaced like for like. Looks like Kane’s been a bit found out at international level, or at least the system doesn’t work for him. Sterling looked off the pace today, needed to do what grealish was doing when he came on - taking the ball into contact. Foden was our best player, was making great runs and asking questions, once he came off we had nothing.
stones should have scored. Could’ve been 3-0 if he did.
Foden was our one attacking danger, it was bizarre taking him off instead of playing him alongside Grealish
It has to be said that bringing in a "proper" LB instead of Trippier made little difference to our potency down our left hand side
Blimey - that was pretty poor from England. As my Tottenham supporting mate said, it almost looked as if Harry Kane was trying to persuade Levy to sell him.
Scotland were very good and I did enjoy the punditry of Souness and Roy Keane. Ultimately, it’s a point which takes us through the group and hopefully we can turn the Czechs over and win the group on Tuesday.
People tend to forget that we were lucky to get a draw against the Swiss in the Euro 96 opener and that we only just qualified (and changed the formation) after the first few games of Italia 90.
Maybe this is one of those ‘local derbies’, where the ‘big team’ always underperforms. All that said, I’m afraid that England look a little way short of the top teams in this tournament.
( In other news, good to see that a young Blackburn player has put Chile ahead against Bolivia )
Two holding midfielders was not working but Southgate was to afraid to change it. My biggest worry about him is he is a bottler. Having said that, it was actually a decent result as if we win the group, there is no way we are beating France, Portugal or Germany. As it stands second would give us a last 16 game against Slovakia, Sweden or Poland. But unless the manager grows a pair, that is probably as far as we will go.
Grealish should have come on for Phillips and Rashford for Sterling (who was poor) and Calvert-Lewin on for Cane. I though James was a bit anonymous and I'd have Chilwell above Shaw every day of the week just for that extra bit of quality he has. Mount left his nine iron at home too which was frustrating!
Surely it's better to play the 2nd team in Group F in the last 16 than the 1st team in Group F in the Quarter Finals?
No because we probably won't get past the quarters. Better to get there than get knocked out in last 16.
So we are not good enough to beat the team that will finish 2nd in Group F (probably Germany or Portugal) in the last 16, but we are hoping to get to the Q-F, where we would play the team that wins Group F (probably France), who, I assume, you believe would slaughter us. That's worthwhile and something to look forward to.
Two bob managers like Southgate will let us down. Need a proper manager not a yes man in a suit
All the managers in the past 55 years must have all been yes men then seeing as we've always been perennial failures since then. Including the over rated "golden generation" and with the messiah, the highest paid manager in the world at the time. We have been, and will continue to be, failures, regardless of the manager. But can be argued, maybe we can have one that at least makes it a little more interesting I s'pose.

Who?
You asked who?, not who could we get. So I give you guardiola, at least he would use potentially our best player in foden to do what he does in his most productive position.
All this overreaction reminds me of when I worked in an Italian bank in 1994. They lost to Ireland in their first match. Everything was rubbish, the team was useless, they were an embarrassment, blah blah blah. They finished the group with four points going through on goals for.
They eventually only lost the final due to that Baggio penalty shootout.

Our Gareth isn’t brave enough to play grealish and foden, playing two holding players against so called weaker opponents, is a bit gutless. I think he’d be respected more by giving it a go, and potentially failing, rather than limp through to maybe the quarters and then getting beat by better sides.
Pickford deserves more credit in an England shirt. Has been phenomenal.
Seems to have cut out the kamikaze stuff, my man of the match.
Couldn’t believe Reece James first thought was to pass the ball backwards more often than not 🤷♂️. He was either frightened to take responsibility on the ball or was playing to instructions which is very concerning if its the latter and he wasn’t the only one 😤.
Southgate needs to sort it out pdq and put a side out that can play with more freedom v the Czechs otherwise he’s going to be coming under pressure to keep his job.
Had a couple of mates coming over to watch it but have had to cancel as my wife has to self isolate. Gutted but at least I’ve still got loads of beer and crisps to keep me company. Really looking forward to the game
A space came up at The Volunteer in Bexleyheath, come on England.

Stephen O'Donnell of Motherwell (who played 2 season for Luton in L2) had such an easy game, when you consider the attacking threat we should have posed down our left hand side

Its like watching a completely different player to the one that dominates some of the best midfielders in the world at West Ham.

we were soooo lame tonight even Scotland could have beaten us …..
the one real upside is that Harry Kane has wiped £50m off his value .
15% Runner up
30% Losing semi
30%losing 1/4 finalists
15%losing last 16
0% failure in the group stage
