Just watched match of the day. To think we were able to give Brentford a run for their money a couple of years ago, and now look at the gulf between us.Not sure if that should give us hope or not, because although we’re struggling right now, if they can do it why can’t we?1

Surely Robnison is not a better tactician than Adkins ?

time to give Schwartz a go ? .. otherwise what's the point of keeping him on the payroll2
-
Stockley being our 'big' signing of the summer shows exactly how Adkins wants us to play.1
-
Did we try and play any good football or are we lumping it up to Stockley (haven't seen any of the game)?
Not looking forward to the season ahead if it's the latter. One thing losing/ not winning but the grimness is magnified if it's compounded by dire and turgid football devoid of any creativity and "football".4 -

Lads forget the result, at least Robbo had a good time, my missus thought he was dressed up like a young wannabe, thought he was off to a nightclub after he’d done his lap of honor with the players.1

the 'highlights' are to be found on about page 10/11 .. we nearly took the lead through Washington after a good move along the floor .. it can be done1 -

Was at the game & also watched the highlights (if you can call them that). We went from looking good & solid to being ripped apart on the break. Their first goal was down to Morgan having sloppy control and losing the ball but it definitely looks like a foul on Matthews in the build up although the initial shot was saved Innis loses his man for the tap in by the man that Morgan couldn’t track back with. The second goal was crap defending all round. Morgan backs out from a tackle, Gunter gets done by a long ball, Innis attempt to cut the cross out is weak and the resulting shots beats Mac at his near post. Lots for our defensive coach to work on sadly.
Other than our pen and a Washington chance we created sweet FA. If Stockley can’t win headers we constantly give the ball away. Clare looks lost as to what his role his, DJ never got into the game, Dobson works really hard & Morgan doesn’t look like he can do the role being asked of him unfortunately.
At this point we look a team devoid of ideas & creativity and can’t see that improving with the current players available. Hopefully Kirk will improve this but we need to desperately improve our midfield & striking options but that’s not new news3 - Sponsored links:

I don’t know about anybody else who went to yesterday’s first away game in a while but I’m exhausted today. I need to get match fit.11

To be fair, I thought Oxford played some lovely football at times and Robo has built a decent squad there, they should be right up there. Brannigan seemed an excellent player.3 -
Struggling to see how Morgan can be solely to blame for Oxford’s first goal. He lost it near our box ffs. If there was no one to stop the Oxford advance from there then surely that’s a collective failure. There’s scapegoating and then there’s just taking the piss.7

Karl Robinson was one of the youngest coaches to get his A licence. Charlton fans can take the piss out of our gobby Liverpudlian ex manager as much as they like but he out thought and out foxed his Counterpart from across the Mersey.
Both teams were short of players but Oxford capitalised on our weaknesses but we didn't do the same to them.

I like Albie, and I think the overwhelming majority of the fanbase want him to do well, but the fact is he lost the ball 5+ times in the first half yesterday and wasted pretty much every set piece we had. People are protective over him because he came through the academy, but those same people need to appreciate that criticising a poor performance is not scapegoating.1 -
bolloxbolder said:Another one here moaning about us not having the players to play 433. Football is a really simple game. All I know is that in over 50 years of watching Charlton, every successful side has played 442.
I rarely post now as the standard of posting has gone downhill. You get called a bedwetter for pointing out what's plainly wrong, because it's not what the happy clappies want to hear. This team unless there is radical surgery before 31st August will not make the play offs. I only rate the two centre backs in our team, the rest are distinctly average, although I haven't seen Kirk yet.
ive never been a fan of 4-3-3 and hope we ditch it1 -
I dont think anyone is scapegoating Albie for losing the ball before the goal. The vast majority of people on here want him to do well and have a great career hopefully with us. However I do think people are right when they are saying he just isnt ready yet. He is only 21 and yes at times produces the odd flash of potential but mostly he is wasteful, he is being asked to be the player that sets the tempo and creates opportunities and he is miles away from being that player so I think it is unfair to be putting him in that position but at the moment there seems little choice. I personally until hopefully we sign additional players would prefer to see washington play as the 10 and have DJ & Kirk out wide. Tell them to just keep putting balls into the box at every opportunity as with Stockley in the middle we will get goals for sure.0

Robinson said it was a good time to play us this early in the season as we are rebuilding and only going to get better. Hopefully this means that other clubs know we have signings on the way that will make us one of the teams to beat in this league.0

Players Marks thread:
Wow, people giving threes for Davison who looked quite lively. Got to be a case of people marking while angry, or marking based on previous performances?
Based on his contribution a five or even 5.5 would seem more fair.3 - Sponsored links:

Who was that centre mid in our youth team? Played well against Liverpool maybe bring him in. Santos?0

The players score on the doors will always reflect the scoreline.
In the Championship we beat Leeds and Brentford at the Valley despite parking two buses for the majority of both games and both sides having so many shots at our goal. If just 2 of their shots out of 20+ efforts had gone in by Leeds or Brentford then Cafc players getting 7 or 7.5 for a rearguard defensive display becomes 5 and 5.5. The scoreline will always influence players scores even if it is bad misses by the opposition rather than great work by us.2 -

Just the ballache of getting out of the ground and back to the train station was exhausting.Great away day though up until the game itself.0 -
Just a point, only 3 teams in the top 2 divisions played 442 yesterday and they all got hammered. Just saying.4

I haven't seen all of yesterday's game, but going by the comments and what I have seen, we started trying to play. DJ didn't offer an outlet, we had 2 right footed players on the left and got over ran in the middle.
The less of the ball you have you end up going longer and longer, you lose confidence in your midfielders to be able to receive the ball in space etc it's happened to pretty much ever Charlton team I have ever seen. It happened in this system last season as well.
TLDR its a result of playing badly not the cause of it.1 -
