And I say this with absolute confidence.
The best 11 (aside from Gilbey and JFC) was out there and I can’t fault the effort of the players but it’s a very poor 11. It’s clear investment is needed in our squad. I’m not blaming Atkins why we’ve had a poor start. When we’re playing teams who have already set up their recruitment we’re falling in the deep end.
This is why I say 100% support for Atkins. I think he’s doing the best with what we’ve got at the moment.

More than anything, I hope we don't end up in a scenario where we start changing managers every month to give us a fall guy to detract from a shit owner.
Even more than anything, I hope we don't have a shit owner...
Yes he's not been given the best support so I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. But we are consistently making the same mistakes within games and I'm not sure the players we have got are fully behind his positive mantra.
As for having Stockers as a loan striker with scant service and no player capable of picking up the second ball, is like flogging a willing horse.
JJ sitting on the bench yesterday looked totally fed up.
I think Adkins has 3 more games to turn this around. This mess, and it is a mess is down fairly and squarely to Adkins.
Don't mind losing, its the disjointed chaotic performances that wind me up!
And i have Gus Poyet in a heartbeat.
Still behind him though as I do think he's a decent manager
Have to trust me on this but over the last hundred years (it feels like it !) This is the weakest set up ever for scoring goals at Charlton I can recall. Only Five games but......
So if we concede at one end and can't score at the other end, we are in major trouble.
Only five games in including the League cup defeat but we have no fire power and two goals from set pieces is our only return.
He hasn't got his hands tied behind his back by the owner like many of our recent managers, and has so far assembled one of the worst Charlton squads I have ever seen
I think Adkins deserves a bit of time.
He's come into a squad that clearly isn't good enough. Couple of long-term injuries means he has no LB and no AM.
Another injury to Clare means he's forced to name 3 central midfielders and have no others on the bench.
Moving us to 4-4-2 because of the lack of central midfielders in the second half lost us the game, but he was forced into that change because of our lack of depth.
I wouldn't say any player looks worse under Adkins than under a previous manager, they're just poor players and he's had to make do.
The recruitment isn't down to him and that's the issue we're having at the moment.
1. Do you seriously think Adkins would have wanted to start the season with the squad he currently has? How can you blame him for not making signings?
2. How can you lay the blame solely with Adkins when it's quite apparent that Roddy, TS and Gallen are all heavily involved in who we sign?
From last season he's lost both left backs, our POTY, Millar, and our top scorer. Instead of Aneke coming off the bench, he has Davison!
Yes the football isn't great i agree, but i don't see too many managers who would do better with the shite we have available.
Having said that, yesterday was poor.
Adkins is saying clearly enough to anyone who cares to listen that this is nowhere near the squad he planned for at this stage, and nor is it the style of football he plans for. And I don't think that any other manager at all would do any better in the current situation.
Not to mention he tested positive for Covid during pre-season. That must have more or less affected his work during that period. I was quite surprised he returned to work so soon. He put work before his own interests. It is in my opinion mainly the recruitment that led to the hugely disappointing situation we are now in.
What we see is a highly paid technical director who seems to be adding eff all other than fast tracking his son, a highly paid commercial manager doing nothing as no one is interested in a league one club and a professional women's team that no one is that bothered about.
I am surprised though by people saying he might walk, as if us getting him in the first place was a massive coup for the club, or that he was still managerial hot property. The world of football quickly moves on, and you soon become forgotten about, as new coaches and managers come on the scene.
What Adkins can do is walk away and not wonder where his next pay cheque is coming from. He never needed to work again after getting sacked from Southampton.
I don't think he will walk during the season he certainly won't be here next season if the glaring issues aren't addressed though.
If he was a builder and someone asked him to build a house, it’s the equivalent of being given a budget child’s tool set to do the job.
I think the guy has been sold down the river, and can’t make a miracle out of the league 2 standard players he has been able to bring in (bar Kirk) and as such has my support.
So in short this is genuine positivity. I’m positive towards Adkins because the fault doesn’t lie with him.
I fear that Euell (who I wanted to get the job) and Jackson’s inclusion in his set up may have ruined any chance either of them have with our first team for the foreseeable.
If his time at Charlton ends badly, that might be it for his managerial career
He didn't seem that desperate after leaving Hull. After the performances last season he probably still has credit in the game what ever happens this season.
