Evans and Skupski win 1-6 7-6 7-6. Great comeback.

I had the Rugby on TV and had the tennis on my Phone. When it was 3 match point down on Dan Evans serve i thought the match was lost but the hyper Evans who had a fantastic week in singles and doubles found a bit more magic alongside Skupski.
  • Harriet Dart progressing in the WTA250 in Guangzhou but Jodi Burrage drew top seed Magda Linette and did well to make it a 3 setter
  • Norrie and Murray will be competing in Zhuhai this upcoming week. Norrie as second seed (and with first round bye) and Murray as seventh seed. Murray’s first round opponent is a Chinese wildcard, Norrie will play a qualifier in round 2.

Evans is playing in Chengdu as fourth seed (and also with a bye into round 2). He’ll play Safiullin or Nakashima in the second round there.

Liam Broady on the brink of breaking into the top 100 - he’s entered a Challenger event in Saint Tropez.

GB got potentially the worst draw on paper for November - they’ll face Serbia in the quarter final, with either Italy or the Netherlands awaiting the winner.

Earlier Murray beat the Chinese wildcard Yecong Mo to advance to the round of 16. He, Norrie and Evans will all be playing round of 16 matches tomorrow. Murray v Karatsev, Norrie v Polmans, Evans v Safiullin.

Britain's Jack Draper reached his first ATP Tour final by beating Jan-Lennard Struff at the Sofia Open and extending his winning streak to nine matches.
The 21-year-old, who won last week's ATP Challenger Tour event in Bergamo, Italy, won 6-3 6-4 against the German.
Draper will face French second seed Adrian Mannarino in Saturday's final in Bulgaria.
He is the youngest British man to reach a tour final since Andy Murray, at the same age, in Miami 14 years ago.

Excellent to hear of Draper’s recent success. Hopefully he’s turning a corner and 2024 could be a big year for him.

He’s currently no. 61 in the live rankings and would jump to no. 48 if he wins the final.

With Norrie, Evans and Murray too, there’s potential for four Brits in the end of year top 50. When did that last happen?
  • Draper lost in 3 sets but well done for reaching his first ATP final.

    Thought he'd win today.

  • Unfortunate but still a very good end to 2023 for Jack. Hopefully a springboard for next year.
  • I'd forgotten I'd entered the Wimbledon Ballot. I've been offered tickets for No 1 court on Day 9, which wouldn't be bad... but...

    £155 a ticket though  :#
  • I’ll have em if you don’t want em killerandflash

Not looking good in the Davis Cup quarter final.

Against Serbia in a best of three. Draper beaten by Kecmanovic and Norrie a set and a break down already against Djokovic.

Looking like the semi finals will be Finland v Australia and Italy v Serbia.
  • Djokovich had a set to with Norrie in a match while back. Apart from Djokovich being motivated representing Serbia, and beating Federerer's record of 1 Davis Cup victory (Nadal has 5). Djokovich will not Norrie win a game of anything- even tiddly winks, if they were both 90 years old.

Norrie played a lot better than he has for some months, hopefully this will be a spring board to a better season next year. Draper was pretty steady but coming back from not playing much and Kecmanovic was in good form. Draper is looking ok for a better season next year.

Not a surprise that Serbia won this and the key match was Draper. After Kecmanovic winning that match, the chance of Norrie beating Djokovic was remote. DJokovic sometimes struggles against left hand dominant handed players but not against Norrie.

Djokovic great player but can appear pretty graceless. In the interview post match he was picking fights with the UK crowd.

Sinner vs Djokovic should be good match in the semi final.
  • Great win by Sinner and Italy.Really frustrating that we cant produce young players like Sinner,Alcarez etc.Draper is showing all the signs of being a challenger, but like Edmunds who also started well, seems to be prone to injury.Same with the ladies,Laura Robson,Konta both had injuries and did not realise their full potential. Now we have Raducanu, out of the traps like  a rocket, now seems to have a different injury every times she makes a come back.
  • Emma Raducanu plans a comeback in Auckland at the ASB Classic which starts on January 1st.  The tournament is used by top players as a warm up for the Aussie Open.  Emma is one of 4 wildcards for the ASB Classic.  She is currently ranked 296 in world rankings and her last tournament was in April

She played in Auckland last year too but finished on a rather sour and tearful note in the 2nd round after falling on an indoor surface which she described as subpar.  Since then Emma has had surgery on both wrists and an ankle.

Coco Gauff, current champion, is coming back.  She was a very popular visitor, great with the kids, school visits etc.

Caroline Wozniacki is coming too, for her eighth campaign, this time bringing two small children.  She was runner up to Venus Williams in 2015 and to Julia Goerges in 2018.  She has also reached the semi-final on two other occasions.

The Classic is fortunate to have 3 past Grand Slam champions and a final between any two of them would be a dream.
  • These are the seeds for the ASB Classic.  The men’s and women’s tournaments are run separately, women’s first in early January followed by the men’s.  All eyes on Cameron and Emma.

  • Emma will face a qualifier in the first round of the ASB Classic.  All being well she will face the winner of Caroline Wozniacki and tournament 2nd seed Elina Svitolina (Ukraine) in R16.

Coco Gauff has drawn compatriot Claire Lu, world no 98 in the first round.

    The tournament starts tomorrow.

  • Phew.  Emma’s through to the next round with her 6-3, 4-6, 7-5 win over Romanian Elena-Gabrielle Ruse who seemed to have too much power for Raducanu at times.  Emma was 5-2 up in the final set but lost the next 3 games and it was heart in the mouth stuff for a while.  She faces Elina Svitolina in the next round, a different kettle of fish.  She beat Caroline Wozniacki 6-4, 6-3.
