Northants have all but given up the game as a draw, so much so that they've given the least famous of the Curran brothers, Ben, a bowl. Who promptly gets Crawley out for 84 and Crawley becomes Curran's first ever wicket in professional cricket from 54 matches.
Remember what I said about concentration being an issue for Crawley. Northants are bowling the world and its mother and this was a chance for him to not to give it up easily and help himself to a ton.
This season Compton has scored 878 runs in the CC out of a team total of 3,213 - or 27.32%. Even more remarkable is the fact that he has faced 2,127 balls out of a squad total of 6,870 - or 30.96%. To put that feat in perspective, Jordan Cox is second in terms of balls faced with 878, coincidentally exactly the same number as Compton has scored runs. That means that Compton has been at the crease for over 60% of the time that Kent have been batting and on the pitch for something like 80% of the time.
The only thing that those stats prove is that Compton is one greedy bxxxxxd. And we should be very grateful that he is!
Imagine turning up for a county 2s T20 and finding out that the opposition have someone playing for them who has 300 international wickets to his name and who is still one of the first names on the white ball England team sheet - because those playing for Lancashire today will find Adil Rashid in the Yorkshire side.
Ben Compton has been named in a 12 man squad of non Blast players to play in a 4 day warm up game against NZ starting on Thursday
County Select XI squad: Jack Blatherwick (Lancashire), Michael Burgess (Warwickshire), Ben Compton (Kent), Ben Gibbon (Worcestershire), Nick Gubbins (Hampshire), Tom Haines (Sussex), Lyndon James (Nottinghamshire), Ryan Patel (Surrey), Liam Patterson-White (Nottinghamshire), Jamie Porter (Essex), Ollie Robinson (Sussex), Dom Sibley (Warwickshire).
Ollie Robinson has joined Durham for The Blast. Thought this would happen - he's too good a player to be consigned to 2s cricket while the comp is going on. Hope he does well.

A decent looking side that, with a few players like Compton and Patel who've been scoring heaving this year

Why is Compton not a Blast player? Has he signed to just play certain formats?

That would be my best guess at a starting 11 when Crawley isn't there. I think we've missed a trick in not signing Milne- he played a huge part last year, despite missing the finals day.
did the counties have to nominate non blast players ?
Not sure but it might be just ones not likely to be playing at all or just during the period that the 4 day game is going on. It was selected in consultation with the counties and there are nine counties picked from.

Robinson has gone on loan to Durham - see above and I'm not sure that Milne can play for any meaningful period of time due to potential NZ commitments. In any event, we can't have (or probably afford) Linde, Ahmad and Milne in the side and Linde will give us that balance at 7 that Milne can't bring to the table.

Compton will play in the Royal Insurance but I very much doubt that he is pro active enough to be considered in the Blast especially with the likes of Crawley, DBD, Denly, Leaning, Billings, Cox Blake and even Muyeye in front of him - that's eight players for just six slots.

According to The Cricketer Robinson had initially been slated to take part in the County Select XI fixture against New Zealand - for which he would have missed three Blast games - until the deal was agreed with Durham. He will remain available for Kent's CC fixtures against Gloucestershire and Surrey, which take place in the middle and at the end of June during the Blast block and he could also be recalled in the interim should we suffer any meaningful injuries during his loan period.

Some guy called Labuschagne has just scored 44 for Glamorgan 2s. Showed a lot of promise and might make the first team one day.

I didn't know that when I posted.
Milne would have been a better option than Linde IMO, even for half of the games. That raw pace scares teams.

Milne only played 4 of our 14 Blast matches last year and wasn't in the Finals Day team either. However, if Milne did play, it would mean Stewart batting at 7 and that would be one long tail. Last year Stevens filled that spot and was the 5th bowler but we really can't rely on him doing that any more.
We've announced a 15 man squad for tomorrow's opening Blast game in a repeat of last year's final against Somerset - it is live on Sky Sports cricket with the programme starting at 6.30pm and match commencing half an hour later
In the second of the 2s T20, having opened the batting, Stevens has retired hurt. It looked from behind like he was hit on the hand by Josh Croom (who was at the DLCA with Jas and Seb a few months ago) but the message is that it was actually the collar bone that the ball hit. Hopefully it's nothing too serious.
Agree about Blake's form but the difficulty is who to drop - apart from Linde for Stevens this is exactly the same team that won on Finals Day last season and Walker probably wants to reward them until such time as the need arises to change things as they will have to do when Crawley leaves for England duties.

It's cold, it's a school night for the younger kids and it's the middle of the exam period for the 16-18 age group. Wait 'til we get to the middle of July then you'll see a difference......oh no sorry that's when that other "comp" is being put on for the benefit of the ECB.
