Morgan takes, it whizzes across the box but CBT can retrieve it, and manages to win a throw under pressure.
We're desperately lacking aerial presence at the moment, Deji and Bakrin don't have that attacking threat yet
  • Nice bit of defending from Elerewe to clear, but Villa come back again down our left, but the cross is massively overhit and we have a throw.
  • The Addicks book the place in the last 16 of the @PapaJohnsTrophy

  • Let’s keep the post-match thread in here.
  • Nice bit of work by Leko to keep possession initially, but he plays  Watson into trouble, so has to go back to retrieve it.

  • We did it. One more step taken on the road to Wembley.

  • We come forward, Leko shoots just wide, and that's full time. 2-1
  • Thanks for the updates guys

If we win this, will The Valley crowd in 70 years be singing about Johnny Jackson us winning the Papa Johns Trophy in the same way we do about Jimmy Seed and the FA Cup?
  • Thanks to everyone who contributed updates on the action.

  • Decent match that. Not sure anyone knocked the door down to get into the first XI, but we performed well against what were a game villa side.
  • GET INNNNNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!

No but seriously, this was a fun match. Villa have some decent young players. Good to get minutes for the yoot. Good to see the like of Burstow, Deji, and Bakrin up against players of similar (if not slightly older) ages who are at a tier 1 academy.
  • Great bit of experience for Villa... Nice bit of competitive football for the fringe players.

The competition is doing its job for once.

Three wins from Wembley, the 3rd Round stays regionalised - Draw is on Saturday thanks to Mr Mendez
Villa's kids will certainly have benefited from playing against experienced pros like Stockley and Watson. They've got some really talented attacking players, but they overplayed it tonight, trying to get the perfect goal

Have to laugh - I was curious to see the Chelsea line up tonight see if I recognise any names coming through.

Neither they nor Aston Villa bothered to even mention the game on their twitter accounts.

I know the whole reason for the kids to be in the competition is for THEM to gain experience in the Senior Game - But given how the clubs have demanded B team access to the EFL, it would be nice if they made an effort to actually advertise these games.

Edit: Finally found it on Google...

I reckon Harness is a keeper;-)

Every time I’ve seen him, he’s been very good.
    Keeps the team together :)
  • I would like to see us play Chelsea or Arsenal under 21s.. It would also be at the Valley.
