If we can get him on a free or for a small fee, I'd do it now as it would free up another loan space.
But not a squad place, with Aneke and JFC replacing Schwartz and Arter we can’t register anyone else. We need to move players on or sign u21s.
Ah yes good point @Scoham. Perhaps send Morgan and Kirk out on loan with Davison being let go along with Watson?

As we only have 3 loanees at this time, that reason alone is not enough in my opinion as I don't see us getting 3 more loans in this window. I'd also like to see more from Lee before we offer him a perm contract. His form seems to have dipped of late.

Can see the first three going though Morgan counts as u21 so wouldn’t free a spot. I’d like to replace Watson (and Gunter) with better but they’re probably a good wage and we’d struggle to find a club who’d take them.

I wouldn’t be surprised if we’re doing a few deals right at the end of the window. We can’t let anyone go until we know we have a replacement, and we won’t sign anyone until we can move someone on.

Have we maxed out squad places?
Yes, unless we’ve removed someone like Watson, but that seems unlikely.

Yes his form has dipped recently, but all players in every team go through that. I've seen enough though that has persuaded me he will get his form back, and foe me his dip in form seems to have coincided with Washington and Stockley both being out.

My real worry is Dobson gets injured, as you buy all the creators you want, if you can’t get the ball back, and have someone playing the simple pass, you’re in a terrible place

I don't know if I would sign Lee or not.

We need to stop having to sign, or resign, double figures of players in the summer window.

Would signing Lee now improve us, obviously not.  Is he good enough to be a key first team player in a promotion, probably not being honest.  He would be a good squad player but would he be a happy with that?

He almost certainly isn't good enough for the championship so how long contract would he and us be happy with?

Lee is a good link between defence and attack and has done this very well. My major concern is the lack of goals and assists from such a forward player.
If a fit JFC we’re playing in this free role I would have expected him to be closing in on double figures by the end of the season. With his injury issues I don’t expect him to be offered a further contract and this is a crucial position that I am hoping will be addressed asap. We need more goals.

If we had leaburn, grant, and nelson as 3 of our 4 forwards this season we would be bang in trouble!   David whyte on the other hand yes please.
Cor David Whyte what a player.

Would he be happy though.  JFC has got a second year so he has plenty of time to earn a new contract.

His goal against Leicester (I think) at Upton Park will live long in the memory.

If we sign Chuks and Defoe we might as well sign Keith Peacock as a wing back too.

No idea, but if we get back a fit JFC that is what he is going to be IMO.

He must have been on his own as the team were on their way to Cheltenham.

I totally agree with you, we haven't come close to replacing JFC, I suppose Arter was ment to.

Last season we finished the season with 9 players out of contract almost all of which didn't know if they were staying or not.  That's completely untenable.   Plus 5 loans.  That's 14 out of a squad of about 25.

We need to get to the situation where we have a core of at least 15 we know are going to be here or know they aren't by April at the very latest.  Ideally we also want no more than 5 of them going into their final year either.

As far as this window goes, there is no urgency for me.
We need a SCP style 17 man recruitment drive for next season and offload the passengers that we are carrying now.

Forget this season - it was over when we kept soppy bollox in charge for 4 games too many, everything since is just window dressing.
Beat Pompey and the Gills, then let that be an end to our expectations.
Cannot believe this level of blame is still being thrown at Adkins.

    a) he doesn't deserve to be insulted
    b) IT'S THE FUCKING PLAYERS!!!
    A) Interesting that you knew who I was referring to though LOL
He started it by insulting our intelligence when pretending he knew what he was doing.

    B) Our Skipper described the Atkins era as having a “lack of clear direction”.

And all the players interviewed when he first arrived were talking about the clarity of directions and instructions they now had.  It's almost like the players are as fickle as the fans........
  • Gallen expects at least two players, maybe one more before the end of the window... Has mentioned a couple might go out too

Feels that signing Aneke means we now have the spine of the team for the next year, next couple of years potentially.

I think 2 have to go out for us to get 2 in, don’t they? Not sure on the exact rules tbh but I’m pretty sure our squad is full at the moment.

I suppose it depends on whether we have de-registered any players due to injuries.
  • Or depends if our other targets are U21
