If Jacks plays the second game I will be quite surprised tbh, but yes, he did I suppose take 6 wickets for 199 in the match, all 6 of which were definitely not batsman error
He could effectively play as the Livingstone replacement, hard hitting batsman who can bowl a bit.

It depends on both whether Foakes is available and whether England trust a 18 year old spinner

Foakes missed the Test due to illness but was doing 12th man duty today. The pundits were talking about playing the extra quick to give the walking wounded seamers more respite but quite how you do that and play two front line spinners plus Root and a specialist keeper I'm really not sure!

One of the seamers might be rested anyway as it's such a short turnaround.

    Question:

I'm sure there's a perfectly feasible explanation, but if it gets dark so early in Pakistan, why don't they start an hour earlier??  Is it too dark earlier?
Sun rise 7am, sets 5pm so the hours of play are 11am to 6pm.  Cricket really does its self no favours at all.
Pretty sure they start at 10am in Pakistan
    They do.
  • Incredible and I felt a bit emotional about it all at the end was glued listening to them talk about it all , Test wins in Pakistan don’t come every day of the week .
not in a squillion years did I like the declaration on solid sensible cricketing grounds but on ballsy gambling nutty reasons yes loved it .

will they make as ballsy a declaration against the Aussies in the first test of a series or 1 up with 2 to play !!! I don’t think my ticker could take it

Either way there is plenty of light available before the scheduled start of play and none during the last hour.
  • How on earth does Jimmy do it. 40 years old, bowling last on one of the flattest pitches he’ll have ever played on and not just pick up wickets but keep his economy so ridiculously low?! All this talk of Ronaldo and Messi having longevity in sport but Jimmy is on another level.
I was listening to the commentary in my car, the commentators said that batsman go into their shell and defensive mode when facing Jimmy, hence the good economy rate
  • Larwood Fells Bradman (colourised)

This. It does beg the question why Robinson (5-122 off 43) received the MOM rather than Anderson (5-88 off 46) even if I do think that it is Brook that should have got it because it was the speed of his 240 off 181 balls in the match that afforded us the time to win the game - that many runs in a Test match at 8 an over is ridiculous.

  • Robinson did get more top order batsmen out than Jimmy, which might have been a factor. I agree Brook should have got it, for TWO incredible supercharged knocks

And at that point the game was heading for a draw, then Robinson 2 quick wickets turned the match..
  • Mehidy Hasan Miraz having the series of his life against India! Another insane scorecard

Wow. Comes in at 69-6 and gets a 100!
  • Dear God, they almost fumbled the unfumblable, but they've done it! Another absolute thriller!

Mark Wood replaces Livingstone. Foakes left out.

England clearly see reverse swing as more of a weapon than spin
  • "The selection is just for this Test," said Stokes. "I'll still keep saying he's the best keeper in the world, so it must sound silly for us to not pick him."

    Indeed.
  • I always thought Ollie Pope was the new Ian Bell. It turns out he's the new Alex Stewart!

Duckett, as opener, could be the new Alex Stewart as he's kept a lot more than Pope has. It's not a road we should or need to go down as the missed stumpings and catches they are likely to make will, potentially, outweigh the fact that they are there to allow us to play seven bowlers because we can't be sure that it will spin sufficiently to allow us to go in with just three quicks and don't want to have just Leach and Root in case it does. Let's face it, when Foakes and Pope return to Surrey, I very much doubt that Alex Stewart is going to suggest that Pope should take the gloves!

  • Thanks BBC for giving away our secret weapon:

  • I would be more impressed if Jack Leach started bowling right arm swingers!
  • England win the toss and bat first.
  • A positively pedestrian 6-0 from the first two overs.

Crawley yet to get off the mark from eight deliveries.
  • 38-1

Crawley bowled by the debutant spinner for 19. Nasty delivery.
  • 125-2
    Duckett out for 63 (49)
    Pope 40*(37)
  • Think England will be regretting not picking another spinner
  • Abrar-cadabra
  • This wont be a draw either.

It's one thing scoring quickley it's another to score quickly & lose wickets even quicker.

We'll be all out before tea for less than 250.
  • 180 runs in the morning session is absolutely bonkers
