England players just observed a minutes silence in the Windies followed by a round of applause. A number of them will know them through the media and of course he played with and against some of the coaching staff at both county and international level.
Whenever I think of Shane Warne I just hear the words of their wicket keeper (Gilchrist?) in my head going, "nice one Shane". Sometimes it felt like these nice ones of Shane would go on all day and it used to grate a bit. I'm sure it must have for the batsmen. Truly a sporting great. And a great surprise that he's gone so young. RIP Shane.
I got to know Shane Warne quite well during my time working in county cricket and he was a really nice guy. At the end of a days play he would get all the kids to line up so he could sign autographs. Once he got to the end of the line he would then have selfies taken with each boy and girl. He would be doing this long after many of the other players had gone home. A real gent, and will be greatly missed.
What we have to remember is he was taking a lot of his wickets on non-spin friendly tracks. When we do it is hard not to conclude he was the GOAT in terms of spinners.
