A scrappy, industrial first half with little quality on show, Charlton were lucky not to have conceded a couple of times. Cambridge just weren’t composed in front of goal, which let Charlton off the hook from two gilt-edge chances. The game was very open and we probably played the better football on balance, but fashioned only a handful of chances mostly from Corey Blackett-Taylor’s marauding runs down the left. Both teams went into halftime even at 0-0, with Charlton probably feeling the better of the two. But it was nothing to write home about and plenty of un-forced errors on both sides.
The second half was a little better, quality wise, if only perhaps because the cookie crumbled our way for once. We scored twice, late in the second half. The first from Corey Blackett-Taylor pushing into the box and scuffing a pass that bounced decisively off of a defender, past the keeper and into the back of the net. Chuks Aneke came on and made an immediate impact. Great pressure from Clare forced the ball forward to Chuks, who unleashed a shot from the right side of the box. The ball bounced off of an offside Conor Washington’s ducking head and popped in over the keeper. No one managed to suss Washington’s position, at least a couple of yards in front of Cambridge’s back line it seemed from the tv angles available. The officials seemed to miss a few things along the way, perhaps going through the motions, having checked out a bit at the end of the season.
Clean sheet. And a win. It’s all academic.

CBT so important ... and exciting to watch7

Pass to CBT and attack. I like our end of season tactics.5

Means nothing but really pleased for @cafctom
Before tonight he was on a run of 17 consecutive away defeats. It’s not easy following our club and n the road in recent seasons, so glad he finally gets an away win56 -
need a CBT type player on the right, not Mathews.12

Typical League One match, but we won and deservedly so in the end.2

Looked a certain defeat to me.Hats off to the lads for a decent away win.2

We won.
Deflectively.
Deserved it but not a great game or performance.
Up to the dizzy heights of 13th.
CBT man of the Match but thought Morgan had a good game.6 -
A very scrappy, low quality game but we were the better side in the second half and ran out deserved winners, even though both goals were thanks to outrageously lucky deflections.Player performances were pretty much what we’re used to. McG wobbly. Matthews, Gilbey and Morgan all poor. Stockley could win a gold medal if they ever make moaning an Olympic sport. Clare very good coming forward but shaky defensively. CBT far and away our best attacking option. Dobson effective but, like last Friday, his passing was off. Washington running the channels. It’s all a very familiar story, but this time with a happy ending.Pleased for the travelling Addicks. Hope we can follow that up with a good performance and another win in our final home game of the season on Saturday.4

Charlton are like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re going to get.5

Well that's cheered me up... well sort of. Slightly let down by the Cambridge team of course, a few more own goals and I could of achieved a lifelong Charlton supporting ambition, predicting a 9-0 win!2

We can finish 12th with a big last push... We won. It wasn't inspirational was it. Please be over season. I can't help but keep paying £10 to watch the stream an get little enjoyment out of it. Next season will be better won't it??3

If Gilbey wants to stay here next season he can buy himself a seat in the LCC Stand.
Isn't that where Leuth sits? He'd love Gilbey sitting next to him all year ...4 -
We won and sounds like we had a bit of luck. About bloody time!1

Remember when we thought we had the best CM in the league in him!2 -
Good report by LoOkOut, which sums up pretty well. CBT our danger man. Stockley as ever won lots of headers but ineffective, plus he missed a really good opportunity. There is half a very good player in Morgan - it's the other half that worries me as he gets lured out of position and is a bit weak when tackling; still he played well tonight. Clare had a good game and Pierce/Famewo did more than okay. Gilbey is my least favourite player as he usually cocks up out attacking forays. Jacko seems to like him though. There is no guile in this team. It's pure third tier, which worries me for next season.6

We won. Blackett - Taylor outstanding. Again. MacGillivray dodgy. Again.
Not much else to say.
On a separate note, Phil Chapple has been very impressive tonight on Charlton TV. He clearly knows a lot about all the various players in the various leagues. Great shame he left here when he was scouting for us - can't remember what was the story behind that?
Would be great to get him back again.7 -
Overall we deserved it.They looked much tidier than us in the first half, but as the game went on we looked much more comfortable.I still can’t see how this lot plus 2 or 3 new additions can mount a promotion challenge but that’s for the summer, who we bring in, and who we release.
An example is the post above re: Washington talking as if he’s going to be here next season. I don’t dislike him, I think he works hard and is okay. However, if it’s him, Stockley, Aneke and one other, imo, the one other needs to be better than all of them. That’s just my take on it, but I still don’t see enough real quality in this team11
