We’re in a bit of a bubble on CL.
In a crowd of 13 or 14 thousand at the first match of the season, how many of them will be regulars on CL? 4 or 5 hundred maybe? Most in the crowd won’t even be aware of the delays, the poor communication and the social media shenanigans, I would imagine.
Not that the debate hasn’t been quite interesting on here, but I do think we get a bit het up sometimes.
Have to say James I would think more people then that are aware of the situation. When you look on twitter, Instagram, Facebook many fans have the same feeling. I would say at least a third of the attandence of home fans at a minimum.
Maybe. But there’s a difference between being aware, and being deeply concerned perhaps?
Once the announcement is made we can relax, but then we’ll (rightly) be worried about recruitment. And then the season will start and it’ll be results that matter the most. I’m more likely to be worried at that time if I’m honest.
  • I still hope it's because we're after someone like Warburton still.

If anyone has an interest in Charlton Athletic regardless if they don’t have access to the internet (Not many in this days and age plus the ones that don’t would have made aware by friends and family) will be aware that they don’t have a manager in charge and has been the case for nearly 5 weeks.

Nothing wrong with debate otherwise what’s the point of any forum.

I'd image the same people post on more than 1 platform and there's hardly 1000s of comments on every post.

Russel Slade never received the credit that was due with his innovative formation and improvements he made to the squad ? ? ?

In the Cafc canteen where the food was healthier, the sitting arrangements were made so the players bonded and no one was isolated. Slade wasn't keen on milky tea so made sure that Doris only used skimmed milk and left the tea bags in the Cup longer than we managed on the field.
Look at that evil barsteward stretching the life out of poor old Scarfy. No wonder he doesn't want the job anymore!

But on a side note I had the misfortune to be staying at the same hotel as the team "managed" by Slade, away at Fleetwood early in the season. Two things of note. First I said to Slade on the Saturday morning - "three points today then?"  He looked utterly startled by the concept as if trying to win an away match against lowly opposition was a complete anathema to him.  He said something along the lines of "well, we'll see". Second there was clearly very little team bonding going on. Nicky Ajose (a new signing) was left all alone and was sitting by himself in the hotel public areas. When the team went out for a stroll around the grounds, he was again all alone at the back, slowly wandering along listening to music. I didn't see anyone talk to him the entire time I was there. Predictably, the game was a poor quality 2-2 draw. Ajose barely touched the ball before he was subbed.
Whoever the next manager is, it is precisely this lack of ambition and team building ethic that it is imperative we avoid.

Well, that statement has poured more fuel on the fires of discontent.

Worst than that it will, assuming it happens, spoil the party when Garner is finally appointed.

A mistake.  Not the end of the world but a big mistake none the less.

Maybe the owner was frustrated by the version of events being leaked from Swindon, perhaps because they want to force Charlton to pay more compensation than TS is wanting to pay but even if that was the case (I have no inside info) it was still a mistake.

It does point to both needing to bite your lip and ignore the comments and insults (yes, yes pot and kettle coming from me and no Cawley's comments weren't in anyway insulting or outside his remit as a local journalist) as well not consulting/listening to your experienced CEO, comms team or even your own appointed fan advisor who has a PR background and was selected largely because of that.

My fear is the family now draw up the drawbridge and take on an "us and them" mentality.

TS has spoken about a "one club" mentality and I understand the new CEO Jokat is pushing that same mantra.

To succeed the fans need to be a big, the biggest, part of that but this weekend has damaged that, I just hope not permanently.

Is he the CEO ? I thought he was coming in as COO ? (Though I know that burger boy had/has that title ?)

Agree up to a point, but to many more casual fans five weeks selecting a new manager probably isn’t  the end of the world. Not ideal, but not a catastrophe.
As I said, the debate has been interesting.

I always notice things like that and it is really telling how a player will do. Leon Clarke had a poor time at Cafc as he looked a loner and looked unhappy and isolated from the group when I saw him at away games in his short time at the valley. Some players can bond easier with a group than others. Jayden Stockley and Johnnie Williams will always be popular with team mates off the field even if Jayden needs to moan at his colleagues on the field when they aren't at it.

I have no idea what is going on at the moment, but one thing for sure,if I was TS and had committed the money he had to saving this club,I would look on this site at some of the piss taking remarks and say to myself"Fuck this for a game of soldiers,I am out".
exactly my thoughts - i hope it works out for him this year i really do coz however people view his decision making, there's no doubt he's trying and spending
Well said .. the comments about him and his family are shocking he saved the club when no else had the bollocks for the fight … he started a long journey of undoing years and years going back to Richard Murray of neglect and cost cutting .. this is not going to sorted in 18 months ….I did see a vote on one site that asked if you still have confidence in TS and pleased to say the no’s were below 30% ….remember how long it’s taken a club with the financial clout of Man Utd to get the right manager and there still trying puts it into perspective
Agreeed I just wish he wasn’t so arrogant about things , i think what he has done for club just should not be overlooked but he really isn’t making things easy for himself

I really don’t see what the problem is with the club statement? They’ve been forced into responding because of all the wild speculation that’s going around and not put out by the club, which seems perfectly understandable to me.

Yes, we all wish a new manager, coaching staff and players were all in place but the reason they ain’t is presumably stuff going on behind the scenes that very few if any, know about.

I imagine Sandgaard and all would’ve liked the same but it is what it is and why add to the furore by creating and kicking up such a fuss over things unknown?
In my opinion the vast majority of people kicking up a fuss at every move now are the ones who were upset Jackson was sacked. Plus a portion of miserable gits who complain at everything.
It would help if the club had a half decent CEO and a communication strategy instead of various associated people creating situations with random and ill considered tweets and then trying to manage them by the same route. It’s beyond amateurish.

And seriously the sacking and subsequent recruitment has been an absolute debacle by any standards. If the player recruitment is conducted in the same way then it’s very hard to be optimistic about the season.

I feel really sorry for whoever is appointed against the backdrop of this entirely avoidable chaos.

Wild speculation? There is a stand-off between media and Charlton because reporters at both ends of the transaction do not believe the club and won't accept its version based on their own sources. In the end there are at least three parties with first-hand information and only one of them is responsible for the club's statement.
So what is the complete first hand information?

this is laughable really - Cawley should at least be acknowledging that he may have got it wrong - based on the fact the most pivotal man in the whole deal says it isn't done - to say anything else is blinkered nonsense and not reporting the full story
If Cawley has it wrong then so do TalkSport, The Athletic and Swindon local press.
