I wish they wouldn’t keep banging on about ending 56 years of hurt though.

    It hasn’t - that’s the mens team

Yeah okay so when did the women's team start competing and how many years of hurt is it for them?

Who cares men or women, it's 56 years since any England team won a major tournament.
If it is any level of England team then we won the under 20 and under 17 World Cups in 2017

people keep saying don’t compare the mens and womens game so stop trying to shoehorn the years of mens misery onto the womens team

It's not any level it's the senior teams. Of course the way you put it, these women also haven't supported failing English teams for the past 20+ years.

"Our lads" &  "Our girls".....don't give a feck if that upsets anyone.

Onwards & upwards to the World Cup.
  • Out of interest will this tempt any of you to watch Charlton Women now?

It is 56 years of hurt though. that's how long it has been since a national team won a competition in our national sport.
Haven’t the youth teams won stuff?

    fair point.

for the record, i celebrated the under 17s world cup victory too, and never even thought of downplaying or underestimating it.

edit to add, i don't think that is the point Mronelung was making, which is why I responded the way I did.  If it is then by all means ignore my reply.

Yep if my daughter or son want to, otherwise we'll keep watching the men first and foremost
  • That was a joy to watch !! Such bottle and a fair bit of skill. I think  women's football could take off here after that and hopefully it will.
  • Really enjoyed that. Congratulation to the Lionesses and the amazing Sarina Wiegman
Should imagine there will be an explosion of grass roots interest now.
Hopefully will inspire the means team. I think it will

Very impressed - the last 10 or so minutes was a masterclass in defending a lead.  Charlton men are you watching?
