Getting ahead of ourselves I know but Gordon has roasted Porro every time they've faced each other in Spurs Newcastle fixtures. Personally i think Spain will be a tougher game for us than France because Spain keep the ball a lot better and don't give up many chances. Death by 1,000 passes with us chasing shadows for a lot of the game.
The one thing we can rely on though is that Tuchel will have a plan. He won the Champions league when his unfancied Chelsea side beat Man City in the final and i think we'd have to do something similar to that. Get the first goal, give up a lot of possession and dig in.
Of course, we still have a very tough job to do tonight first though.1 -
Yes, while I expected France to win, it was never going to be a walk in the park. It was almost as if because Spain aren't a team of attacking superstars (other than the quiet until yesterday Yamal) people had ignored what a good all round team they are. Indeed I had hoped for a much more physically tough game yesterday, with extra time, as the winner yesterday has the advantage of an extra day's rest. Instead, Spain had an easy 90 minutes.1 -

If we somehow scrape through tonight, a final against Spain would be a huge challenge. They completely outplayed us in the Euro 2024 final, and we were fortunate just to get back on level terms for a while despite having only 34% possession and feeding off scraps.
If we do make it, it'll be fascinating to see how Tuchel approaches them compared to Southgate two years ago. Spain are still the benchmark in international football, so it would be a real tactical test to see whether we can compete with them on more even terms this time.

Spain will take some beating in the final. They are getting into the same mind set levels they were at when winning the Euros two years ago.
France were found out by a much better team. Rabiot is very ordinary and looks, in appearance and physicality, as if he would fit better in a Croatian team. Kone has struggled with injuries and Dembele is apt to disappear from games. I also don't think France have found anybody to fully replace Antoine Griezmann in the number 10 role, providing that spark of creativity and skill and popping up in the box to make or score the odd goal.
Spain, on the other hand have an excellent number 10 in Dani Olmo who has improved at international level year on year. He always finds space and creates openings for team mates as he did last night.
The Spain manager has been ruthless in fine tuning his side, most notably in consigning Pedri to the bench. Petri was supposed to be a shoe in as a main stay in midfield, but he is apt to dwell too long on the ball which was slowing the team down going forward. Fabian Ruiz has come in and taken some of the heavy lifting away from Rodri who is back to his controlling best.
Spain don't have a dangerous goal scorer up front as such. But then they haven't really had one since Fernando Torres hung up his boots. Oyarzabal can be managed by the likes of an England defence. Having said that, he knows how to take a decent penalty.
If England do get to the final, Jude B is going to be working overtime during the next few days getting his team mates up to speed on the intricacies of football played the Spanish way.4 -
