Jenni Hermoso is gay but that has no bearing on this case; as a women can be straight, gay, bisexual or asexual and  what Luis Rubiales, the ex President of the Spanish Federation did by grabbing her head and kissing her on the lips  was wrong and deemed a crime.

What should've been the highlight of Hermosa's career and her teammates after winning the trophy will for ever be tainted by the crutch grabbing*  Rubiales who instead of saying straight away he was over zealous by kissing her on the lips and apologising, he said she consented; when did the consent take place before the match !

There is a back story as Spanish female footballers had been at odds with the male dominated Spanish Federation for at least 4 years over various issues and this 'Kiss' was the final straw for Jenni and her colleagues.

*Rubiales, whether through drink, drugs or a giant ego was in a highly demonstrative state during the game and he let his exuberance get the better of him but then compounded his actions by blaming Jenni Hermoso.
  • SteveACS said:
He grabs her round the head and guns her no choice, how she reacted is irrelevant, she could have been in shock
He does grab her head, you're right, but she has two arms free. If the kiss is so abhorrent to her then why didn’t she use them to at least lift his hands off of her.

I don’t buy the ’she was in shock’ theory either. She walks calmly away and even gives him a ’goodbye pat.’

There’s something behind their relationship and what happened afterwards, maybe with her boyfriend imo.

In itself, your comment, is insensitive...

"Maybe with her boyfriend"? Why do you think she has a boyfriend? Maybe she is in a happy relationship, with another woman?

If another bloke came up and gave you a great big smacker on the lips, would you be happy?

And I've got kids. And we spent a lot of time teaching them that "violence is never the answer".

And I don't think that women (I have 3 daughters) first reaction is to lay someone else out, if they do something they don't approve of.
I missed that part of the insanity! Since she's a lesbian anyway, I don't suppose it's anything to do with her boyfriend, no 🤣

    Wistful KB?
    Just old, disappointed & tired.
I will never stop fighting, I’ve been doing it all my life.
But I stupidly thought that things would be different for girls now.
Nope, apparently we’re still asking for it.

It was good for a while there, wasn't it? But the last few years, where apparently it's been OK for all those people who didn't like having to hide the fact they were a misogynistic dinosaur to be open about it, have really set us back decades.

It's better than it was, but there is still a LOT of work to do.

The bizarre situation in the Hermoso and Rubiales case was there were 20 million potential witnesses in the UK and Spain alone. I do accept that the UK audience had slipped to about 50% of it's peak for the medal ceremony after being 2nd best all evening !

Also from memory Rubiales gave a hug to the rest of the Spanish squad and some a peck on the cheek ?
Why he singled out Hermoso for holding her head and the kiss on the lips only he knows ?
From his statement he said she consented which may be his arrogance as how can any female resist him and being unable to see he crossed the invisible line that all males have to be aware of in our work and play.

Many women have no CCTV evidence when it's a more serious assault with no consent given and it comes down to the women and the man disagreeing on the yes and no.

I really want to think we have made progress but a long way to go in all walks of life highlighted by daily news stories of young women in a male dominated world from Afghanistan to the British Army.
  • Sorry KB, it was a weak attempt at humour but I touched a nerve which was not intended.

You have no reason to apologise but I appreciate the offer none the less 😘
  • ’Come off it’
    ’Jesus wept’ Strong arguments.

    ’Victim blaming’ Cliché

As I’m in the minority and don’t go along with the view in fashion then I must be wrong.
So what? Have it your way. Let’s all get mighty precious and take people to court and waste everyone's time because of a kiss. What is the world coming to?

Meanwhile the mother of a girl who was stabbed by two other kids in Warrington speaks of forgiveness. Today's news boggles me quite frankly.

No, you're wrong because you're saying incorrect things. You're trying to use dictionary definitions of words to wave away acts that fall within the threshold of a crime because you don't understand the law *2 and you're minimising the events because you don't understand the impact it had on the individual. One of the very annoying things about the internet age is it has created a mentality in some that they're being ganged up on and cancelled by the woke mafia because everyone is disagreeing with them *1. Couldn't possibly be that you said something daft *3 and that's why everyone disagrees with you could it?
*1: I don’t feel that way. As long as everyone puts forward an argument and speaks to me nicely then I feel ok about it. Only
@Leroy Ambrose fails to do this.

*2: I agree that I don’t understand the law, certainly not Spanish law, but I do think defining words using a dictionary is useful because sometimes they get stretched from their actual meaning.
I do know a little about English law because I’ve been teaching law students English for nearly two years. Yesterday we looked at précédents with accidents caused by cricket balls in public parks. Where would this case lead us to as a précédent if in England, I ask myself.

*3. Everyone certainly disagrees with me because they think I’m daft. However I don’t think my opinion is daft. I’m willing to listen to reason and change my opinion but nothing anyone has said here has made me now think that this court case is reasonable. Someone said that he grabbed her crutch. I’ve seen no evidence of this but if this were true, then I would change my opinion.

Nowhere have I said that he didn’t do wrong. Also I’m not ’victim blaming’, I just don’t think that she a victim of anything worth going to court over.
I just think that society has gone made when someone can get taken to court for a kiss.

This should all have ended in a suspension from work for the bloke, and an apology from the Spanish FA. I would hope for a direct apology from him and forgiveness.  If that makes be a ’misogynistic dinosaur’ then that’s fine with me.

    This definitely didn't happen.

As for the court case, wasn't it more about the coercion and the Spanish federation claiming she was lying, than the actual kiss itself?

They came out and said “We have to state that Ms. Jennifer Hermoso lies in every statement she makes against the president”, so if i was her i'd say that's something worth going to court over.

I obviously didn't make it clear Jimmy Melrose, as Rubiales grabbed his OWN crutch during the game which was shown on TV.
It was clear that he grabbed Hermoso's head and kissed her on the lips.
