Another away draw and multi-goal thriller for the Addicks. But, like a Charlton defender, I really don’t have the capacity to tackle a full summary. So, here’s the match in a nutshell:
We went out and gained a two goal lead, thanks to a confident Charlie Kirk getting in behind Burton’s defensive line on the counter and finishing with impressive technique and skill. Towards the end of the second half, we conceded two goals in disappointing fashion.
In the second half, they peppered us! Craig G., filling in after a late finger injury to Jojo, kept us in it with multiple decent saves. They went ahead with a third goal and we seemed out of it. A few substitutions saw renewed effort. Chuks came on and immediately played a blinder, putting Rak-Saki through on goal. He looped the ball over the keeper to equalise.
We’re not good enough to dominate teams. The owner wished for exciting, end-to-end thrillers and he’s certainly got that. The problem is, we’re a few pieces of quality short to ensure we come out on top of these thrillers more often than not.

We have far less impactful players to replace them.
It's a combination of two things
1. The players ain't good enough
2. They lack the mental strength to finish the job.
Either way there is only one person to blame and he's probably strumming his banjo somewhere in America.
To the point where I’d be ok with trading a striker signing for another defensive option.
Centre back and full back top of the priority list at this moment in time.
Secondly, there’s the likelihood that the extra minutes and running, especially against players who are not tiring could lead to them breaking down. We have seen Aneke unable to even complete a pre season starting matches.
Apart from that...
There’s brief pockets of decent play, the odd good performance, individually and collectively, but I think we’re quite far off the pace when it comes to being a decent side. You can argue that injuries have gone against us recently and I would agree, but take Kirk today as an example of our season. Comes in and scores two, but we might have to wait until January again for him to repeat that. CBT isn’t consistent enough, and our most effective player going forward can only come off the bench. JRS hasn’t been setting the world alight recently but scores today so again, highlights an inconsistency very common to a lot of our players.
I think to enjoy this season, expectations will have to be lowered and you’d have to accept that the team isn’t strong enough to go on a sustained run, even when we win a few in a row. For the 3 wins against Exeter, Pompey and Lincoln, we’ve now gone 3 without a win.
Also we played Bonne ahead of him at times when he was fit... There's a player that I'd prefer not to see again... But...
