I find the lack of signings from Swindon deeply concerning…….
Still time to sign someone who is truly mediocre however

If Kirk and Thomas have gone, is that 7 dead wood players cleared out already?

    Six, I think:
    JFC
    Stockley
    McGranles
    MacGillivray
    (Thomas)
    (Kirk)

Shows the importance of stability IMO - squad is such a mess with a new manager every time a transfer window rolls around

Still plenty  of room in that min bus for DJ and Lavelle.

Alarming how frequently we are “rebuilding”. Speaks so clearly to the lack of a real plan and joined up thinking within the club’s management.
It all comes down to ownership stability.

The staff have an idea of the way s manager wants to play and targets will be identified but if we keep changing managers then the goalposts are consistently on the move.

stability is the real issue here.

get a manager who will be given time to implement his ideas and spend a little bit of money and we’ll target players for that plan and hopefully get somewhere but this constant rebuilding just doesn’t work
    Great post.

Hector, a player who has been without a club all season and of whom the Sheffield Wednesday manager basically said last week isn’t fit enough yet. Knowing us he’s signed a three and a half year deal.

It isn't rebuilding.  It's repatching the holes in the roof left by last shoddy patching job.

It’s a good job we brought in Andy Scott to oversee all these loan and free transfer signings. He’s certainly earned his corn.

With the instability and very poor league position, what player of any quality would come to Charlton, unless
    1) Its a step up in Leagues / Club size
    2) It's an increase in wages. (see 1)
    3) The player is a bench warmer.

If its any of the above, can we realistically expect them to be any improvement on those being shipped out?

Joe Dodoo has just left Burton. It couldn’t happen, could it?

Lots of rumours about who's signed (Hector), who's gone (Kirk, Thomas/Lavelle), but nothing on official site.
I was hoping that we would bring in a good quality replacement for Stockley, I think it's very
dangerous relying on just Bonne and Leaburn as our two main strikers, you certainly can't count on Aneke!

It sounds like sarcasm, but I think he's done a great job. He's got rid of half a dozen "high" wage earners who aren't in our team/plans & got in a few who are better players.
This HAS to be done if we want to get out of L1.
It was sarcasm. Has he really done anything that Steve Gallen couldn’t have done. He has got rid of two players permanently, MacG and Stockley, the others will be back, and the jury is out if the ones brought in are better. Todd already injured, Penney made a pretty average debut, if Hector signs he’s more injury prone than Aneke and Kilkenny is an unknown to most of us. Also, I’m sure we are probably paying some of McGrandles, and if he goes, Kirk’s wages. Can’t really see how he’s done a great job, just rearranged the deckchairs on a sinking ship. And any money saved has just probably gone on his wages.

Half a dozen? Only 3 so far. Forget loans out. Other clubs won’t be paying full whack of the wages.

As a bottom half league 1 team, what are realistic expectation levels for a January transfer window?

You're never going to pull up trees in a January window when you're bottom half of League One.

With that in mind, we've offloaded nearly half a dozen players that weren't getting a look in and replaced them with four decent enough players in positions that we needed to fill. Even if the players coming in aren't world beaters, the training ground is going to be such a better place to be without unhappy players who have 4+ others ahead of them in their position.

I think alongside Dobson and Fraser, Kilkenny could be the third of what could turn out to be one of the best midfield trios in the league. We have options up front that fit our style of play in Leaburn and Bonne, and we finally have suitable full back cover on either side.

Last area of weakness to address is centre back.

Overall, we've come out stronger than we came in IMO. Yes it's a bit of a patch up job, but what January window isn't a patch up job?
