Posters getting very twitchy now. The field's up to prevent the quick single. I think it's time to deploy the reverse ramp, but there's so much spin on this thread, that's going to be a hard shot to pull off. Don't want to charge the bowler and risk being taken high on the pad, relying on a DRS review to save us, given not out, umpires call. Knowing our luck, we'll probably get over the line commenting on another no ball!

there's something to be said for the duncan fletcher mantra that if you want to be a pace bowler and succeed at test level, you need to be bowling close to 90mph.
Anderson has done alright for the last 20 years.
I agree that you need someone who call bowl quick, else it's all a bit samey.

probably because he was initially re-introduced to do the hoggard/sidebottom role of a new ball swing bowler. Which i think there's always a role for.
I know it's easy to say every part of every game is crucial, but I think we need to bat well here, as it will affect the rest of the series. 200 and the series is almost lost. 300 and we are struggling. 400 is good. 500+ we are competing hard.
Great memories on TMS at lunch - Cook talking about 2010/11.
Remember a few very tired days at work having stayed up way too late watching or listening to that series.
Listening to that as well. Possibly my favourite series, seeing that we were stuffed 5-0 in 2006/07 and have been stuffed since then in Australia.
I have got the DVD box set and have never rewatched the Perth test 🤣🤣
At the time it was awful, but it made the next 2 wins all the more satisfying!
i firmly believe the amount of cringe from "the sprinkler" made the universe collapse on itself and shot us into a parallel universe in which we are now living that caused trumps election and brexit.

Now that's wicket keeping. Wide to get a clear view of the line of the ball, hands go first, fast feet but with right foot still outside off stump so not too far away to take the stumping, hands riding with the bounce, no panic and clean take. Makes it look simple too.
The biggest opening stand by England in an Ashes test since 2010; it should've been so much bigger.
Crawley averages 28 for a reason. He can look brilliant and then throws his wicket away as if he's playing 20/20. Isn't it possible to play Bazball with just a bit of nous.
It's a sign of the pace and T20ness of modern Test cricket that the stumping has become such a common dismissal this series. Root in Edgbaston, Head and Crawley here all stumped when completely on top.

exactly my problem with him. He's always been like that when i've seen him for kent - looks 100% a test match batsman and plays some wonderful strokes and then plays a silly shot and gets out for 30.

Horse has bolted. Ton up!
4 or 5 overs to face before lunch?
That over by Root may have cost Australia 50-100 runs, as Head was playing so well., and Green also threw it away.
5 wickets in 90 minutes of play.
Just what was needed after yesterday's lacklustre performance.

Crawley 6* (18)
Duckett 7* (6)

Dissing one of my best moves there mate.
That, the tube train, the shopping trolley....
YET another stumping this series.
