five of the last six ODI's in Bristol have been rained off
The only time I have ever been to Bristol.it rained for 2 days. I'll be there next Monday and Tuesday if anyone wants to avoid the inevitable down pour.

The MCC have expelled one member and suspended two others over their reaction to the "Bairstow/Carey" incident. Maybe they need to move some of the stewards from the public areas into the Long Room!
Three years: Harry Brook (Yorkshire), Joe Root (Yorkshire), Mark Wood (Durham)
Two years: Rehan Ahmed (Leicestershire), Jofra Archer (Sussex), Gus Atkinson (Surrey), Jonathan Bairstow (Yorkshire), Jos Buttler (Lancashire), Bryson Carse (Durham), Zak Crawley (Kent), Sam Curran (Surrey), Ben Duckett (Nottinghamshire), Liam Livingstone (Lancashire), Ollie Pope (Surrey), Matthew Potts (Durham), Adil Rashid (Yorkshire), Josh Tongue, (Nottinghamshire - from November 1), Chris Woakes (Warwickshire)
One year: Moeen Ali (Warwickshire), James Anderson (Lancashire), Ben Foakes (Surrey), Jack Leach (Somerset), Dawid Malan (Yorkshire), Ollie Robinson (Sussex), Ben Stokes (Durham), Reece Topley (Surrey).
England Development Contracts: Matthew Fisher (Yorkshire), Saqib Mahmood (Lancashire), John Turner (Hampshire).
Stokes, by all accounts, was offered a three year deal but has chosen to take a one year deal. Retirement in the offing?
Archer's two year deal is a questionable one given his ongoing injury problems that has meant he hasn't played a Test in the last two years and just seven ODIs and T20s in total in that time. I accept that the fear is that he will go off and play franchise otherwise but it is a big commitment to someone who will probably want to do that even with a CC.
I suppose we had little choice other than to offer Bairstow two years though I'm really not sure that he is player he once was and doesn't look like he has fully got over his golfing injury. It's, once again, an insult to Foakes that, by contrast, he has only been offered a 12 month deal. If the ECB are mindful of the advent of a Rew, Smith or Robinson (Durham) then I could understand it but surely Bairstow should be in the same bracket?
One year for Sussex's Robinson says quite a lot given that Wood has a three year contract and the likes of Archer, Potts, Atkinson, Tongue, Carse and Woakes have all been given two years. He's only 29 but the question marks about his attitude and ability to keep himself fit enough to play Test cricket are clearly there.
Three years for Root? No wonder he's calling for the abolition of The Blast.
No new deals for Roy, Willey, Jamie and Craig Overton and Olly Stone. Perhaps the surprising omission is Jacks who made his England debut across all three formats in the last year.
Seems a very odd time to announce them now .Quite a few names there can think themselves quite fortunate. I am assuming the ECB have been this generous to protect themselves from some of them becoming full time franchise cricketers

The contracts run from 1st October to 30th September so, I suppose, there's only so much time they can delay such an announcement by given that the players would have, presumably, been told at the end of September. But I agree the form of one or two in this WC does appear generous. Perhaps knowing that they are getting paid as much as £700,000 per annum does diminish the hunger a bit. And some will still play for as many franchises as they can regardless e.g. Root playing T20 which he isn't particularly cut out to do in the UAE instead of playing for England in an ODI series against South Africa in what is WC year.
Part of an article on ESPN which goes some way to explain how the muti-year Central Contracts came about and why certain players opted not to sign a three-year contract:
A lucrative offer made by a team that did not exist 12 months ago was the trigger for the most significant change in England's central-contracts system since they came into existence 23 years ago.
Dubai Capitals only played their first match, at the UAE's ILT20, in January, but when they agreed a £400,00 deal with Mark Wood which risked him missing a Test tour to India, the ECB sprang into action. Changes to England contracts have been mooted for the last six months as a response to the rapid growth in the players' earning potential with overseas franchises. The launch of two new, IPL-backed leagues - the ILT20 and the SA20 in South Africa - at the start of the year was a watershed moment, with most of England's leading players signing contracts.
Six players were offered three-year contracts: Harry Brook, Joe Root and Wood all signed them; Jofra Archer and Jos Buttler opted for two-year deals instead; while Ben Stokes, England's Test captain, agreed a single-year contract, a calculated gamble on the value of central contracts increasing when new terms are agreed next year.
In total, 18 players committed to at least two years, while a further eight signed on for one year. The value of those contracts varies from a lower bound of roughly £130,000 to a top bracket of around £800,000. Three more players signed pace-bowling development contracts, which act as a top-up on county salaries worth nearly £70,000.
Prior has been the most vocal critic of the Sussex regime in recent years , especially of Rob Andrew.
Will be interesting to see if this majorly changes anything although I've just seen George Garton is going to Warwickshire on a white ball only deal, I really hope he can get his career back on track after the past 18 months he's had with Long COVID.

Yes, he suffered from long Covid, but he always seems to be injured when there is a Sussex game. Miraculously, he recovers for the Hundred. He is in danger of wasting his undoubted talent. His red ball averages with bat and ball are poor. He also looked to be a potential England player for white ball games, but he has slipped well off the radar now. Sussex won't miss him.
A somewhat unexciting set of internationals next summer. As shown by the results of the Oval ballot, in which I can get 4 tickets for Days 3 and 4 of the Sri Lanka Test and EIGHT tickets for the women's T20 against NZ...
Don't mind having a look at Hartley , Turner and Tongue but I agree with Leuth that Livingstone is so far out of form I'm not sure why he's there when Will Jacks can offer the same role.
Remember that stat about us only playing 43 ODIs in the four years since the last World Cup and the unavailability of key players. Key was following the lead of Strauss in that period.
We ended up guessing what our best squad based on historic successes. We allowed centrally contracted players to play in non events rather than ODIs. But, most of all, the ECB's insistence that their own Mickey Mouse competition occupied the whole of August rather than having an Ashes Test and then a five match ODI series against Australia and to play in the 50 over domestic game meant that we had neither the best squad or opportunities for players to get meaningful practice in the format.
So, Willey was one of our few success stories of the WC and wasn't offered a Central Contract because he wasn't deemed to be the future. Another of our better performers was Malan. Now Willey is more than three years younger than Malan but the latter was given a Central Contract. some six weeks ago. But we now discover that Malan is unlikely to play for England again. Someone please tell me why this doesn't smack of muddled thinking?
Dawid Malan is the biggest casualty as England seek to revive their white-ball teams in the wake of a woeful World Cup campaign. Malan has been left out of both the T20 and ODI squads for next month’s tour of the Caribbean and although Rob Key, the managing director of cricket, said it was possible for him to regain his place for the T20 World Cup next summer, it is unlikely Malan, 36, will be seen in England colours again.
A blind man could see what was likely to happen without proper preparation. In fact, the question was asked on here as to whether there really is a difference between 50 and 20 over cricket - they are both white ball after all. Well Key seems to have stumbled on the truth:
“I made the mistake of thinking that it will be all right when we get there [India] and that’s not been the case. You made the assumption that without playing lots of 50-over cricket this is such a good team that it will just slip into old habits and away we go. We’ll be able to go out there and win.
“What we needed to do was get out here and understand 50-overs cricket out here better, which we haven’t done. We’ve underestimated what it would be like."

1yr extension for Ollie Robinson at Sussex. Still wouldn't expect to see much of him in a Sussex shirt.
