  • The first game of the Big Bash has just started. English players involved are Sam Billings and Paul Walter for the Brisbane Heat and Liam Dawson and Olly Stone for the Melbourne Stars.
  • West Indies beat England for the first time in an ODI series in the Caribbean for 25 years. Both sides very much finding themselves and you can't learn if you don't play but disappointing nevertheless. Buttler's record as captain in white ball will continue to be under scrutiny especially as his win rate in that position is barely 50% (32-31) and his form with the bat seemingly affected by the position - less than 200 runs in his last dozen innings in total.

Having been very much second best over the course of the last couple of months, we don't play another ODI for nine months. Next stop though is the T20 series starting on Tuesday at 10.00pm.
  • Windies first series win against major test nation since March 2021

I think I went to that series 25 years ago , think there was 3 one dayers in Barbados
    pre kids
    pre wife
    pre mobile phones
    freedom
    pissed
more windies fans than English and loads of banter with em
    in bar/club with players afterwards
    simpler times

  • I was watching this last night.

England are just like Charlton. Get into a winning position & then throw it away in a heartbeat.

The spinners had got us back into the game & slowly we were turning the screw. WI were losing wickets and the RR was increasing. 5 overs to go & on come the quicks. In an over they scored 24 runs & the game is done.

    Pah !

I would have loved to see games out there back then, when the locals filled the ground.

    Oooh ! Can't wait....

....especially as I foolishly spent £29.99 on the coverage of these overseas matches !

    ( Please don't tell Mr F ! )

Venues seem a but strange unless some have changed names recently. None in Calcutta or Mumbai  ???  What am I missing.

By all accounts, the BCCI have decided to spread cricket to some venues that weren't utilised by the national team during the recent WC. Probably also helps them, so far as local knowledge is concerned, given the majority of the England players probably wouldn't ever have played at three of them.
  • I didn't even have Bashir on my radar of spinners in the county setup , this feels incredibly left field. Was thinking Jack Carson would be the backup they'd take essentially for experience

I watched a few county streams last season. Bashir was simply bowling far better than Carson
  • be interesting to see how the bowlers get on .. is India still a 'graveyard' for English bowlers, especially the pacemen .. the batting and keeping personnel looks about as strong as it could be

Carson also got a ban for some undisclosed on the field incident towards the end of the season so might be one that the ECB want to tidy up his act a bit. Luke Wright would obviously know the ins and outs with him anyway having played with him , although Wright might be the only person that's left Sussex on good terms recently.
  • England do have this tendency of picking spinners when they are young and raw, then dumping them in favour of the next "exciting" prospect. The likes of Dom Bess and Matt Parkinson are presumably on the reject pile now, despite being only 26 and 27 respectively.
  • So Jofra Archer played a club game and Rob Key and the ECB who have been managing his recovery knew nothing about it. Hardly the most professional of actions especially when he is paid a retainer by England.

This is disappointing to see. Probably puts the nail in any chance he's seen in county cricket next season.

  • Limp second half of the England innings.
  • Curran goes for 16 in the 1st over.
  • What a catch by Duckett!
  • Jacks gets smacked onto the roof of a stand. A seriously high roof too!
  • What a catch by Duckett!
And then he drops one almost identical in nature

Sussex re-sign Cheteshwar Pujara for the first 7 CC games and then have Sydney Sixers and New South Wales opener Daniel Hughes for the Blast and rest of the CC.

Our overseas business has been decent with McAndrew, Seales, Pujara & Hughes. If we'd not lost Orr we'd be looking reasonably strong. Very annoying that we've not opted to use a single overseas player in the 50 over comp.

Yeah the overseas are solid , just struggling to fit it all together as an XI. Doubt we'll see much of Archer and Robinson anyway.
  • 2nd IT20 on BT at 5pm.
  • Sam Curran has just gone for 30 in one over, the most expensive in his career - Powell scoring 28 of them before being brilliantly caught by Brook off the final ball of the over!!!
