Meh... We could be a Sunday League team, and Portsmouth be Man City levels and we'd still beat them with a walk in the park (literally) - So unfortunately cant get overly excited at this result.
Jokes aside, the most important thing from this result is the fact that Holden got a response to THAT performance @ Oxford on Thursday night - Would have been a bigger concern if we'd seen another performance from that game, especially after his post match comments (no more excuses etc.), instead it sounds as though the players have listened and reacted.
Its understandable its been resurrected, but fed up of having to see the "Are we getting relegated" thread on the front page, need to bury it deep (along with the Ark of the Covenant, and Would Ya thread) in the darkest corner of CharltonLife Towers
We're ten points from the Play-Offs so its a big ask (probably too big an ask), but Wycombe are now in the top six, after being in a similar position to where we are now, so its not impossible - Dont just need to strengthen in January either, need to try and keep the squad together, find out why players keep breaking down with injuries (Sessegnon etc.) - Most importantly, we need the likes of Scott Fraser to turn performances like today into consistent showings
I still dont buy the fact that we have a poor group of players... The likes of Fraser etc. came to the Valley with reputations, so I dont think we need another squad overall as big as some think - But we will if individuals dont start showing the type of consistency we know they're capable of!!
Fully deserved excellent performance from back to front .. Inniss and Ness excellent, Stockley looked very good when he came on .. but MOM Fraser run the mid and really set the tone of our performance. That’s 7 straight wins at Fratton Park incredible record
Absolutely chuffed for everyone that turned up at Frats. It's been turgid watching the last few months but pretty please don't let it slip against Lincoln... Be brave and go on the front foot.
Poor old Pompey. Reminds me of that relegation season when we beat Birmingham twice. They will not want to look back on that. Part of me thinks that I can't quite view it as a corner turned when we needed Pack to get his traditional red card and them to score the final goal for us to put it to bed but I'll try not to think about it too much. Decent-ish line up based on what we had available and a sensible set-up. I'm glad the 3-5-2 has already gone in the bin, some points to Holden for that at least.
Really dark time to be Sam Lavelle though. That's two consecutive managers who had had a look at him with key defenders out injured and still chosen to pick children over him. Must surely be the end of his road for us
At least players, manager and our fans going united next week can do so in a better mood
I'm personally sick and tired of all the continuous take over malarkey. I just feel sorry for people who've lost their jobs and recieved unfair dismissal.
Let's get some players in January and bolster the squad! I'd be happy if we just stay up.
I'm looking forward to September as its likely I'll get a season ticket, I'll have the time available and can watch up an downs of the shit show
Don't understand how we can put in an effort like following the mess on away at Oxford. Great team performance and tactics were perfect for the opposition.
For once we had decent shape...apart from at defending corners! Two great goals from Rak-Sakyi and Fraser, plus Leaburn might have have scored. Great to see CBT fully involved for + 90 minutes. Innis took no chances and smacked the ball into touch, aka Rufus, and Ness also played well. One great stop by Ashley Maynard otherwise, overall, Pompey were awful, lucky to get their goal. They will not go up this year! Cawleys out? Oh and Piggot had a poor first half and got taken off. Don't see him improving our front line.
Good performance. Need to do it somewhere other than our safe port of Fratton Park, but it’s a good start.
Much more the kind of football I want us to see us playing. A few specific observations:
1) Clearing our lines took priority over retaining possession - led to better decisions on when to pass it and when to get rid. 2).Harder work goal side of the ball, in particular wingers tracking back helping their fullbacks. Better pressing too from the midfield 3 (Morgan was good today and it’s our most balanced 3 when he and Fraser are both at it). Unsurprisingly, the defence looks more solid when we defend from the front like that. 3) Less touches, more willing to move the ball quicker and risk losing possession to try to open and exploit space - played a big part in 2 of our 3 goals and a number of other chances created. Even helped Stockley when him came on, although he’s clearly now a sub to bring on and see games out.
Deserved that, was worried when they scored the equaliser thought we’d see the same old Charlton in the second half but Holden seems to have organised us and we slowly killed off the game.
Fingers crossed for 2023, hopefully we strengthen in Jan dream for the playoffs and really press next year if a miracle doesn’t happen. COYR!
Credit to Dean Holden. the formation and shape were spot on. We had a good spine today with Eliot Ness being my outstanding player at the back. Thought Dobson, Morgan and Private Fraser dominated the midfield and Leaburn looked like a seasoned pro leading the line. Plenty of pace out wide that scared the shit out of the Pompei full backs. Aside the lapse of concentration by Clare for their goal, a thoroughly superb performance and a much deserved win. Play-offs, anyone?

If he can bring Al Capone down he should have no trouble keeping us up
Today, and in the second half at Oxford, we had a formation that fits the players we have, rather than try to fit the players into a formation. We still need a left-footed left back; although Sess is fine he'd probably be even better on the right.
I do wonder if there will be a bit of a clearout in January: DJ, Kirk, MacGillivray, JFC and Lavelle could all do with a move.....as long as they're replaced!

That comment is like applauding Man City fans for travelling to see their side win 9-0 @ Welling!!
Bet tickets will sell out in five minutes for the trip to Pompey next season

Dont tell me we're gonna use those games sensibly for the Senior Players, as well as the kids for once!!

He needs to sign for Charlton in the next few weeks
