This is hilarious. Peak CL. When TS wanted to change the name of the female team, anyone daring to ask why it mattered got pelters. Now someone starts a thread asking a perfectly reasonable question, which as far as I can see hasn’t been answered yet (mixed gender teams are decades away) and it’s full of “so what?” responses.
What if there's a player on our team that describes themselves as Non Binary and use they/them pronouns? Should they be subjected to being called Man Of The Match when they don't identify directly as a Man?

It's closer than some of you boomers think
Surely if the person has they/them pronouns then it should be 'Players of the match'?
They're still only one person, therefore the use of the singular Player is fine. i.e Where has Dave gone? They're over there.
If someone identifies as non-binary, they'd surely change name to a gender neutral one? Would be a bit silly asking where Dave (the most bloke name there is) gone and then not being able to refer to them as he / him
Poor old Dave is going missing period.

(David) only came in at 69th in the list last year - beaten by such names as - Finley, Calab, Jaxon Toby and Zayn.

I mean, can you imagine the assault of the ears as a young mum in (say) Essex calls in her beloved Jaxon and Zayn with her Thames Estuary accent?   :/

    RIP Dave.
Man alive, I've only just got used to UKTV Gold being called Dave. I don't think I could cope with it being called Jaxon or Zayn.

Imagine if Elon Musk bought UKTV Gold (Dave) no-one would have a chance of pronouncing it!

In the future when there are mixed gender teams in sports that have hitherto been single sex then it will be player of the match.
Am I right in thinking that at the moment, at least up to a certain age, you can already have mixed gender teams in Association Football?
Contemplating probably the most boring sport of all, Synchronised Swimming, recent news is that mens teams will be allowed to compete in top international tournaments, why especially?
    Have mixed Synchronised Swimming.
There are mixed Horse Riding teams (not keen on that sport myself) but why not have mixed Curling, or Bowls or whatever?
In that context you can have player of the match.

The future will never deliver mixed gender contact sports. While technically I think women could compete in the football league pyramid, physically it would be dangerous. Even the top players such as Nikita Parris, Beth Mead and Alex Greenwood would get dissolved in 50/50 challenges with players like Innis or O'Connell. I've mentioned it before, I've played with some top female football players and some make Jonny Williams look like Goliath.

Which brings us nicely back to Dave.
  • It seems none of you have noticed that I changed the Statbank from Man of the Match to Player of the Match a few games ago - whoops!
