Like many have probably said (as I've only read page one), we could easily have been 2/3-0 down at HT, but it was a game that could've swung in our favour, but overall the better team won on the day. That Santos fella is a proper unit and really stood out for me. I can't comment on their 1st goal, as I was stuck outside in a queue that didn't seem to be moving, but the ref was a disgrace to the profession which was summed up at the end when he booked Bonne for legitimately going for the ball whilst their keeper was winding down the clock. Won't be too harsh on Penney as it was a tough game to make your debut in and it looked like a case of sometimes just trying too hard to impress. I'm sure we'll see a better player once he settles in. Nice to see Morgan grab a goal in an otherwise typical Morgan performance. When he shot most of the covered end ducked for cover, but this time he found the target. The keeper really should have saved it though. Despite the defeat, I came away feeling okay that at least we're getting some way back to looking like a team that will at least put the effort in and fight for it, but ultimately they were a stronger team than us9

I didn’t see any pick up from two weeks work on the training ground. I’ll never be a Morgan fan and Santos won’t have an easier afternoon with just Bonne to deal with. CBT and JRS looked our only real attacking threat but it never lead to anything. Completing the Triple Initial Posse AMB was relatively solid, though the MoM award I thought was a bit generous. The Inness / Ness partnership has had a niceo little run but I’d much rather O’Connell back in. Penny was ok (generous) and Clare seems to have regressed the last couple of games. Fraser / Dobson remains out best part of the team. Our season is done now sadly. We’ve a manager here for a few more months, we’ve no idea whose going to own us and they’ll be absolutely nothing positive to come from the next couple of days of the transfer window other than maybe a short term loan. Just hope we don’t lose one of our promising youngster.
We have a geezer who should be a million miles away from managing us.
We cannot even sell scarves in the club shop.
Oh well.15 -

We put in a lot of effort, but football wise we were a long way short of Bolton. Our passing isn't always what it should be, our decision making often poor, we struggled to get into good scoring positions and our defenders don't always recover quickly enough. Despite all those things, the number one training session for next week has to be to teach Macauley Bonne about the off side law. Next up, explain to Blackett-Taylor that he is allowed to pass. I thought Maynard-Brewer was our man of the match, that's rarely a good sign. Of the outfield players, I thought Rak Sakyi was the cream of the crop though I wish he'd give Simon Church those sponge-foot boots back. For all your skills Jesurun, sometimes you just have to put your foot through the ball.
Might also be nice if some of the officials also learnt the offside rule, terrible decisions made today...once for Bonne, but also fortunately nothing came from an offside not given against Jerome...0 -
A disjointed performance from Charlton but we were up against an exceptionally strong Bolton side, who were superior all over the park. Their passing and movement were very impressive and they looked sharper, stronger and fitter than us, despite having played for over an hour on Tuesday with 10 men. For a club on the verge of liquidation just over three years ago and one playing in League 2 two seasons ago, it's been an extremely impressive turnaround. Managerial stability has been key and their recruitment has - in stark contrast to our lamentable efforts - been first class. I think they picked up Dion Charles for around £320,000 (at the same time that we signed Chuks Aneke for a similar fee), Kyle Dempsey for £150,000 and Santos on a Bosman from Barnet.
We were fortunate to be only 1-0 down at half-time, as their fluid passing and movement really had us under the cosh. Following Albie's well worked equaliser, we gave it a good go for 15 or so minutes before Bolton resumed control. On the balance of play and chances, they really should have scored 3 or 4 goals and they saw the game out very comfortably.
Maynard-Brewer kept us in the game with 2 or 3 very good saves but we were defensively shaky down both flanks and Bolton dominated us in midfield, where their passing, movement, strength and fitness were superior to ours. They were composed and creative in the final third, with lots of balls into feet in our box, albeit aided and abetted by our affording them far too much space and time. Up front, we threatened sporadically on the wings, particularly when JRS got on the ball, but the service to Bonne (and Leaburn when he came on) was poor and Santos was dominant, as he probably has been against most teams and strikers this season.
It's not the end of the world but the game really underscored just where we are in this division and how much improvement is needed before we can seriously compete at the top end. Until the ownership position is resolved, it's difficult to see how we can move forward and rebuild the squad. Whoever's in charge, we are also going to be hampered by the number of long term contracts given to underperforming players, who will be very difficult to move on.

Comparing the players on show I think Steve Gallen needs to get hold of the black box & shove it up Martin Sandgaard's arse.11

We’ve are staying up -
Best we can expect with the dumpster fire this club is.
I just wish I wasn’t actually into masochism instead of having it foisted upon me.

I have go along with the consensus. I enjoyed the game and was proud of the effort and commitment we put in but the gulf in class was evident.
My only other comment is that I am not a fan of our version of 4-3-3. Too often It looks like nine players trying to win a football match plus two silky wingers just there to entertain the fans with occasional flashes of individual skill.

Bolton were more slicker than us and always seem to have players spare whatever the situation.
Didnt think we utilised Rak-saki enough during the game as i thought he had the beating of their full backs, or ping enough shots at their keeper who should have done better on Morgans effort.
Thought the ref was very poor today, first goal for them was never a free kick, which i think was awarded by the linesmen too.
Onwards and upwards, the top six have demonstrated the standards that require setting, even though we had (up to yesterday) a decent record against them at home this season.0 - Sponsored links:

I was also impressed with the young Man U loanee Shola Shoretire. He caused our defence a load of problems. He apparently is the youngest player to represent United in European competition. Ian Evatt's assessment (below) seems spot on.
“I am really excited to work with him, he trained with us this morning and I saw a glimpse of what he will bring to us – that ability to receive 360 degrees in the centre of the pitch, the bit of explosive power to get away from people, the bit of magic and quality."0 -
Bolton have the type of players and play the standard of football that is required to make the playoffs.
For us to achieve similar next season we need to bring in at least six players this summer of better quality than we presently have.
Unfortunately I'm not confident we will.9 -
Bolton were better than I thought they would be. Having said that, I think we can still go on a run. We are not where we want to be yet, but it feels we are heading in that direction to me. Clearly this is Charlton so we are more than capable of changing that however.0

It’s quite amazing how many people this forum
think Bolton where a good team 🤣🤣🤣
where you at the Game today ???
Their free Kick was excellent and a good set piece goal. their second Goal was a gifted mistake by Big Ryan and overall apart from being one of the dirtiest bunch of bashers in the league, like Charlton were poor at finishing.
not a lot between both teams in the first half at all.
we started the second half well and scored an excellent Goal, but sadly we’re not able to create
better chances in front of Goal.
the referee as on so many occasions was fucking inept. and clueless.
unfortunately unless our “ Rock n Rock owner
who has recently lost our Groundsman to Gillingham, invests in the required team improvements our potentially good young manager will eventually walk.
Charlton and Bolton on todays evidence will
not be leaving League one this season.👎

What I said after Barnsley match “ We probably don’t win that 9 in ten times and thankfully that was the tenth .
The result massive , the performance quells my optimism that we’ll be knocking on the play off door .‘
i think we had a good bit of luck yesterday to keep the score down .
The effort from players has been commendable but the ability is not there to be genuine play off contenders, we need a big summer window etc etc5 -

Fair enough, he has also perfected the art of cheating, and diving to get the free kick from which they scored, yep, United are certainly training them well!!
Even Brownie thought it was a foul, so 'nuf said on that one...🙄1 -

Smithy said:Felt we played pretty much the same as we did in recent victories, just this time we were playing a good team playing well. Bit of a reality check for anyone who thinks we could make a playoff charge as the difference in quality was significant.
I was pretty happy when I saw Bonne was starting as I thought the only chance we had was to stretch the defence with a quick front 3, but he just got dominated by probably the best centre back in the league. If the tactic was to play direct, why not start Leaburn?0 - Sponsored links:

strangest part of the day, sitting in the North Upper and my Flashscore app pings goal Bolton…1-2…..I show my mate and we carry on watching, they attack down the right and less than 60 seconds after the ping, they score.

I was really impressed with Bolton yesterday but they need to work on their finishing. They were stronger and fitter than us and knocked the ball out confidently.
We are still poor in possession and make too many mistakes at the back. The second goal we conceded yesterday was comical.
Plenty of effort but we lack quality. We definitely are L1 standard.0 -

We were looking at his phone when Bolton scored.0 -
Just watched their second goal back a few times. Where is Innis heading the ball?Even if AMB stays back on his line there's a high likelihood of a goal from that.3

For as good as Bolton were, it was only 1-0 at half time from a fluke of an impossibly placed free kick that not only hit a spot no keeper can save it also hit the woodwork which 99 times out of a hundred would have resulted in the ball ending anywhere but the goal. Seconds after the 2nd half began Charlton were level and they could have shortly after gone ahead. If Bolton looked good and threatening when they had the ball then credit to the charlton players for being in the game and almost going ahead. My thoughts yesterday remain the same, we looked off the pace, CBT for as good as he can be shouldn’t start, that spot should have gone to Campbell because he’s constantly in the game whereas CBT isn’t. That would have taken some of the pressure off Penney. Bolton eventually won 2-1 because of a keystone cops cock up in charltons defence so basically for as good as they looked they could only manage to score by virtue of two fluke goals.4
