A good first half saw Charlton drawing first blood and going into halftime with a one goal advantage, coming from a Miles Leaburn close range shot. It was clear that a second goal would be needed to see the game out, but the second half got off to a slow start as Charlton lulled Wycombe into complacency. That was until 81 minutes, when Wycombe, who were missing a couple of the premier players, waltzed freely into the box only to see a decent opportunity parried around the post by Ashley Maynard-Brewer leaping to his right. It was a stunning save, but it was in vain as Wycombe scored from the resulting corner a minute later. We just can’t seem to keep a clean sheet.

A decent game, particularly in the first half, but certainly it feels disappointing that we’ve given away all three points seeing as we were in the driver’s seat for most of the match. Blahhh!

Charlton 1 Wycombe 1

Over to you.

Thanks Charlton. You cost me a decent acca today. Serves me right for not cashing out when I checked in on 80 minutes.

Holden showed what he thinks of the squad today. And rightly so. Decent performance from our 11 tenable players - Wycombe turn every game into a fight, and we showed some

Thought that was actually a decent performance overall. The fact that there was no one on the bench that Holden felt could make a difference says a huge amount about the squad, and I think he was right not to make subs.

    Over to you.
We just can’t. 7 all season, the 3rd worse amount in the league.

Feels like so many of the goals we concede come from someone having an absolute brain fade - usually when defending a set piece.

Please just stop the season now. Hopefully we can use the rest of the season to start building for next. Campbell played well today, get Kanu some decent minutes. Nothing to play for so nothing to lose.

    Thanks TS !

Mildly entertaining game, neither team deserved to win although their need was greater. For us, our passing was woeful at times, too much going backwards for my liking, Campbell impressed first half but faded second, Leaburn battled away well, AMB did well, the rest were a bit meh, sorry but I just don't get Morgan, a couple of worldy cross field balls but the rest of his game was awful. Dont hate him but just don't see what he brings to the table.

Yet another useless ref; one of the worst things about being in League 1. Leaburn taken out by the centre-half and no foul, too many other poor decisions or lack of decision to mention. Overall we looked better than Wycombe, but such a soft goal to give away after that great save by AMB

  • Well that was a real end of season game. Trouble is we're not even at the end of March!

All just sums up where we are. We're probably not as bad as we think but equally we are miles off a top 6 team.

Maynard-Brewer and Lraburn continue to really impress .

    Fraser had an absolute stinker.

Can't wait for the next game!

Overall I thought that was better shame we never held on for the win but happy with our performance still some work to be done but we turned up & gave it a real go

Can’t understand how up until the 90 minute, we had 4 bookings and they had none.

Far too often we have dropped points this season due to a lack of effort, that wasn't the case today, just the other problem of not having enough quality

Still some work to be done? I hope we haven't started the work that needs to be done yet.

Plucky little Charlton getting a great point at home from footballing giants Wycombe Wanderers.

Reasonable first half, disappointing second. We desperately needed so.e fresh legs to liven things up, but the paltry state of our squad means we didn't have anyone.

Great, we finished 1-1 against a very average Wycombe in a game we deserved to and should have won, they were minus their most offensive players and yet we cocked it up again with a crap defensive error to gift them an equaliser.
I think AMB may just scrape the MOM, with Leaburn close, but most impressed with Campbell, who had them chasing shadows at times, just needs to believe in himself a bit more, anyway on to next week and Shrewsbury with another blinding fixture...🙄

The draw was probably the fair result, considering the patchy nature of our football today. Tetchy on the pitch, not helped by the referee.

  • To be honest I thought there were some glimpses of what we could do under Holden. We had a twenty minute period in the first half where we totally dominated possession and went one up. I can see how he wants us to play and although it caused some nervy moments the players have bought into it.

A draw was a fair result given that neither side really took a stranglehold of the game. I thought Campbell looked good. Innis and Hector will always cause a few palpitations but overall are forming a decent partnership. Dobson was decent and Fraser showed some lovely touches.

I like Leaburn; he has some real qualities but playing up top alone is a big ask of him, particularly against the centre back parings in this league. I think his main area of improvement required is in the air but I’m sure he will get better.

We have a chance under Holden but only if he is given the squad he wants.

BBC web-site report on the game. "A late Chris Forino header earned play-off-chasing Wycombe Wanderers a draw at in-form Charlton Athletic." Posted without comment.

1-1 about right, but the officials at this level are dire. The East stand Lino was so slow and couldn’t keep up with play. The less said about the ref the better.
Think Campbell  show’s promise. A few months ago we would of lost a game like this… so some progress.

As I said on the match thread, the 18 that were in today's squad probably represented near enough the youngest we've ever put out for a League match - 11 are 23 or younger including 5 teenagers with Hector at 30 the old man of the team. By my reckoning that represents an average age of 23 which probably says two things depending on whether your cup is half empty or half full - i.e. that our squad is so lacking that we are having to include so many youngsters or that the future bodes well. The truth is probably a bit of both as we certainly are lacking depth but we do have at least two or three youngsters coming through who have a very good future in the game - one that has scored 10 times in his debut season in senior footballer and another who captained our U23s this season at the age of 17. And there will be others that will need more time to mature but who could certainly end up playing at this level or even above.

Dog shit game between two sides that weren’t  any better than each other.
Truly awful for cost of the entrance fee.
Sorry but I can’t expect this is our natural level.
  • We make so many unforced errors, so frustrating.
