We all know it was a total over reaction by Robertson, and good on the Lino , but at the same time the stupid authorities will throw out some fat arsed report and ban the guy for a few matches, where as Robertson should be the guy getting a ban...
BBC reporting Mr Hatzidakis is being stood down, and will not be selected to officiate pending the outcome of their enquiry. I fear that he will be made a scapegoat. Should he receive a disproportionate fine/suspension, I hope a similar punishment will be levied on Robertson, at the very least.
A) it's a nothing shrug off to a player that grabbed him
Why is Robertson trying to grab him in the first place?
C) Why did Mitrovic get a 7 game ban for grabbing/pushing an official yet no-one else has, despite players grabbing and surrounding officials all the time?
I think a blanket "you touch an official, you're sent off" rule should come into place
I like this idea.
But I'd go one step further.
The rule should be, "if you come within touching distance of an official, you're sent off". So, a player knows if the ref (or assistant) can reach him with an outstretched arm, the player will be red carded.
And to help introduce the new rule, refs and assistants will be allowed a free hay-maker swing at any player, manager or coach, at any time.
So if someone like Andy Robertson gets elbowed in the mush, it's his own fault, and he gets a red card.
I think that might go some way to stopping players approaching, surrounding and hassling officials.
They should punish Robertson and not the ref, and then send a message out to every club to stop their players disputing decisions or telling the refs what they should do.
Con’s family are Charlton but he isn’t that big a football fan. Doesn’t really watch it live or on TV. One thing he dislikes massively about football is the way officials are treated. He says that managers have dossiers on refs and fourth officials that they bring up before and during games. Stuff like when they last gave them a penalty or got a decision wrong.
I expect he will get some sort of ban, but if Robertson did grab him then it was probably instinct to shake him off.
See the OP of this thread has already made their mind up on the Linos guilt, maybe amend it to "allegedly", the Lino is a fall guy for this Trial by Media fiasco, and Robertson needs the ban...
Robertson needs a ban for what exactly ? Yes he may have grabbed his arm which admittedly is the incorrect thing to do but you don’t just go throwing out elbows in the face. You can’t just ban mitrovic for 8 games then turn a blind eye when the Lino elbows someone in the face

If you look hard enough, you can probably see the answer to your own question.

"Elbows him in the face"?
Behave!
That’s literally what happened. It’s been exaggerated but there’s no doubt he elbowed Robertson on the chin,
Mitrovic has just been banned for grabbing the ref, he didn’t shove him like Di Canio so I can see the linesman getting a ban here.
The way footballers carry on and the way they're increasingly putting their hands on officials and getting away with it, every official should be allowed to smack a player twice a season. Once before and once after Christmas. Granted that would probably end up with Bruno Fernandes being killed within weeks, but after that controversy faded away players would be a bit more wary about screaming at refs when they don't get a throw in.

I think there is debate about the term elbow, but his elbow made contact with Robinson's chin. It wasn't a swung elbow it was an attempt to shrug him off and ignore him, in which he raises his arm. This leads to the connection and if a player did it, the recipient would have collapsed and rolled around. Then there would be the debate about intention and whether it was a red or yellow.
What a bunch of fanny's footballers are, and what a bunch of fanny's the fans have become...seeking issues in everything that happens in some search for "justice"...
Mitrovic should have been banned for longer. Robertson should be told to get back in his pram. The linesman should be back on the touchline asap.
Now if the linesman had done to Robertson what Mitrovic did to the ref, then that's a different matter. But he didn't.

VAR has without question made an increase in player/ref aggression and disrespect. Players swarming around asking for a VAR review, mostly with aggressive, assertive language and behaviour. It’s all gone too far and become very boring and something along the lines of Rugby Union standards need to be initiated……maybe a 10 minute sin bin option should be given some thought.
I think it is outrageous and needs clamping down on hard. I am fed up with players shouting, screaming and surrounding referees let alone them then being physical with them. It is unacceptable and the FA/EPL need to get a grip of it. It doesn't happen in other sports. Bin Robertson for 8 games and say the next player to physically get involved with a ref or linesman will get 15 matches. Same with surrounding and shouting at the officials. My boys team of 10 yr olds behaves better. As for the lino, prob a 1-3 match rest makes sense. I agree he was only shaking Robertson off but he probably needs to swallow up a short ban.

So the Lino is suspended before the enquiry. So much for innocent until found guilty. Robertson should own up and admit he hardly touched him and that he was not elbowed in the throat. He lifts his arm up and catches him but it was not deliberate. If he had been elbowed in the throat he would not have been skipping around moaning about it. The FA should ban him for three games for grabbing the official.
I used to play cricket with him, surprised Charlton never came up though!
I have also played cricket with Con. He does follow charltons results and happy to have a chat about the reds. Con is an absolute gent and would take some pushing to get a reaction. Mind you he keeps himself very fit and god help Robertson if he had actually gone at him.
I hope the lino gets off lightly, very lightly indeed. If that Liverpool player was a man, he would own up to it being his fault and say that he was barely touched.
It did though remind me of an incident in a match my Dad was refereeing. It was in Kent, Faversham Town I think, many, many years ago. The away team scored a goal from what my Dad thought was an offside position but he was not best placed and the lino did not give it so he allowed the goal. Thereafter the lino got pelters from the home support, one bloke in particular. At half-time my Dad asked the lino if he'd like to run the other line for the second half but he said he was fine and would stay where he was. Some time into the second half, there was a similar situation, this time, obviously, for the home team. My Dad looked across but could not see the Lino at all. There was just his flag lying on the ground. It turns out the Lino was in the crowd beating the crap out of the gobby fan. He didn't officiate again.
I understand that Robertson’s verbals towards Con have all been caught on audio. It’s pretty abusive. It appears in grabbing his arm, Robertson has pinched him causing him to fling his arm back.
It seems there has been an apology from Liverpool.

Come on Con, you know you want to be your Club's 6th right footed left back this season!
He pulled the Addick's fin and got nipped.
Our guy should’ve reacted like the ref in our U21 game last Monday.

Same guy made childish gestures to Pickford last month after they scored.
