Sounds like the Paul Hayes type Striker... We've already got BWP
Ikpeazu is under contract until end of the season so some sort of deal would need to be done assuming Vale who themselves could get dragged into the relegation scrap would let him go. Still money talks.

I hope we have a replacement lined up.

Where abouts and is that in the public domain? I'm tracking all the gossip news etc

That's not a league 1 promotion winning forward. Another bit of deadwood for the coming season if true
can be useful to have someone who is a fairly solid, cheap backup who won’t kick up a fuss about being on the bench
Very true. Just seem to be dipping in quality with each linked striker. Which is to be expected I suppose
Depends on the deal I guess. Could be 6 months just to get us through this season. Even if it’s 18 months he’s useful given Aneke’s fitness issues and the fact Leaburn will be coming back from a second major injury and will need to be protected.

If we do sign him I’d imagine we go after someone else in the summer of higher quality
  • I’m not sure this is a brilliant recommendation but our defence made that Port Vale striker look like Didier Drogba the other week. He was unplayable ( at least by us) - If he is relatively cheap I’d do the deal because we just need someone to hold the ball up front for now. We could try to upgrade in the summer
  • Ikpeazu had a good game at their place, but not very mobile and didn't press.

He was very good at disrupting/battling our defenders, and winning free kicks on the halfway line just by being big and awkward.

Was a real handful against us. And he scored of course. 👆
Wouldn’t think he’d be near the top of our shopping list, but he’d do a job for the rest of the season.
  • Ikpeazu stats are nothing to write home about. If true, it looks like a panic signing. I think i'd prefer us to look at the short term loan market for a number 9 and then re-assess in the summer.

Not strictly all down to our defence that day the midfield gave little protection for a change and ours looked better than Vale’s defence who made our front three look like Best, Law and Charlton, all managing to score.

It won’t be a panic but more a case of need if only short term.
  • A record of 1 in 6 over his career.

Appreciate that there are players who are more the hold up type striker etc, but it's not that encouraging.

  • Would expect that now gets announced this afternoon.

Been told by director at Aylesbury FC we have put in a bid for James Callan a 19 year old keeper
    Can he play up front?

Have to disagree, thought he looked very mobile for his size. Remember him using his pace to burn past Hector & Jones at one point.

He gave them both a torrid time and has a decent pedigree having played in the Scottish Prem and Championship. Obviously not a goalscorer but apparently we need someone primarily for May to play off.
May alone won’t score nearly enough to get us promoted. Our midfield doesn’t have enough goals in, if we are moving to wing backs then neither do they, and our centre backs have zero goals this season.

Leaburn staying fit would be a 20+ goal player in my opinion, but we can’t rely on that and he might not be here anyway. Hopefully Ikpeazu is just a stop-gap and we bring in a proper goalscoring big man in the summer
  • Didn't realise Ikpeazu had been at Wycombe before , that might make it a bit of a tricky one to make happen. They've only got Vokes, Dale Taylor on loan from Forest and Brandon Hanlan as strikers so can see the fit there for them too.

I think he'd definitely be a stopgap but tbf we have only scored 2 less goals than Pompey who are top of the table.

People are getting really obsessed by strike rates. Our biggest problem currently is that when it’s going to our strikers it’s not staying there. We have a goal scorer, we need someone to complement him and get us playing higher up the pitch.

I thought Ikpeazu was the stand out player from that game and as a squad option would be an excellent addition.
Think the lack of the ball sticking is part of why we don’t have many midfield goals. If the ball can stick at his feet it should encourage forward runs. The new midfield signings seemed more likely to make those runs on Saturday

  • Got to he honest, I'd be a bit underwhelmed by this. Stockton at least has a history of a decent strike rate, Goodwin has potential and JCH is an absolute bagsman that's also a physical presence.

Uche is just a bit of a handful, poor strike rate.
he's not perfect but the difference he'd make to our team would be huge
