  • On a good day Stewart can bat. Let's hope today is a good day.
  • Stewart is a decent No 9, batting at 10 due to the nightwatchman.

We need runs, but we also need to bat out time. Very unlikely, but if we could bat to tea with a lead of say 200, that would be a challenging chase.
  • We do have someone coming in next who is capable of smashing a few. Stewart and Denly doing so is our only hope.

    Hear hear, AA !
He's not mucking about Fanny! Half a dozen boundaries already.
  • It's somewhat galling to think that we could score 600 in this innings and still lose the game. How many teams contrive to do that?
  • 50 for Denly and 50 partnership too
  • Stewart out for 37 off 40

    553-9 and a lead of 177
  • Garrett has O'Riordan running for him due to the injury he sustained when bowling
  • Garrett has O'Riordan running for him due to the injury he sustained when bowling
So runners are still allowed in the county game!

And would have had 5 batting points if the innings had been the other way round. 5 points could be crucial at the end of the season.
  • Absolute road still, but at least given themselves a chance, couple of early ones, you never know!

  • Denly out caught behind, having a massive waft at a ball for 67 (129)

564 all out and Somerset require 189 off 54 overs
  • Arrived at the ground between innings just after we were bowled out. Quite a few here, considering
  • I've not been following this game closely, but what are the injuries to Garrett and Gilchrist?
  • Somerset 24-1 Dickson out to Swanepoel don't know how.

    caught behind
  • 60-2 Lammonby caught at long on off O'Riordan.
  • 60-2 at tea

Garrett has a groin injury. Not sure what has happened to Gilchrist.
  • Lancs on verge of victory

Ollie Robinson can't have done much more to impress the England captain he is playing with in the game against Lancs. He was left stranded on 171* (206) with Durham losing by 60 runs which is bad news, of course, for us too albeit that it drags Durham near us too.

It's hard to tell who are the relegation favourites at the moment, as looking at the table there are a number of teams quite close together. Neither Warks nor Worcs have won a game yet for example.

Duck in the first innings though

Robinson - 496 runs at average of 82.66 and a strike rate of 87.47
Smith -       394 runs at average of 56.28 and a strike rate of 84.73
Foakes -     137 runs at average of 27.40 and a strike rate of 54.80
Rew -          221 runs at average of 27.62 and a strike rate of 66.56

So Robinson will be first reserve for Bairstow when he takes the gloves...
  • Apparently Kent's 564 will be the highest second innings losing score according to the Association of Cricket Statisticians.

    Somerset cruising at 93-2.
  • 29 overs remaining Somerset need 91 with 8 wickets in hand.
  • Given that we have another game (against Essex) starting on Friday, the chances are that we will be without Gilchrist, Garrett, Quinn and of course Cohen. Two from Agar, Swanepoel and Stobbo will presumably join Stewart, Evison and the returning Parkinson with Leaning hopefully coming back for O'Riordan.

Once again looking so light for the next game, to me evison has shown he can’t really be trusted to be 4 option nor do I think he is good enough to be in the future.

That may be true but, with an average of 50.33, he is worth his place in the side as a batsman. We would have to drop one of our top 6 to accommodate another seamer and that would leave us with a rather long tail. We are just not very good.

I'm amazed O'Riordan is still with us, and was chosen ahead of Muyeye, which will hardly help his confidence. He's 26 now, not a promising youngster.
