I know why we've left out Compton, but the teams we've been picking are unbalanced, with too many bowlers and not enough batsmen.
Pointless having 10 bowling options if you're playing with such a thin top 4.
The fact that Mark Dekker replied in the interview, when asked about Compton's future, "you will have to ask Chef (Cook) about that" suggests that this isn't just about not giving youngsters (and others) a chance but that they don't want to waste that opportunity on a player who won't be with us next season. The fact that he hasn't signed a new contract with less than two months of the season to go suggests that either Kent don't see him as the future or that he, himself, is keeping his options open and talking to other counties. Players are usually told months in advance that their contracts aren't being (and can talk to other counties even if they haven't but do have a contract that runs out at the end of the season) but don't have to inform their existing county of any move. So there might also be a game of "brinkmanship" going on especially if Compton sees himself as both a red and white ball player and recognises that Kent do not.
Swanepoel has been recalled to play for South Africa A so won't now be here for the whole of the season. His last match will be the Worcestershire game on Thursday 22nd August.
We are in no position to get involved but a power struggle for players is imminent. Owners of franchises in the IPL are now calling for those players who do not turn up or leave early, for what they consider not valid reasons, to be banned from future participation in the IPL.

I read that IPL article and found it completely and utter preposterous as an idea. Who are these owners to judge what a valid reason is? If a player has mental health issues or an urgent family matter that has to be immediately addressed then banning them for not fulfilling the contract is going to cause all kinds of ruptions with national boards and players unions.

Basically, counties like ours are shafted every possible way.
Worcestershire's Tom Hinley, Hishaam Khan and Tommy Sturgess have all played Kent 2s cricket in the last two seasons and Kashif Ali, who isn't playing in this game, was in the Kent Academy a few seasons ago
Harry Podmore has announced his professional retirement at the age of 30. He hasn't played one game for Glamorgan this season in all forms of the game and is currently turning out for Enfield in club cricket. Wish him well for what follows career wise.
At the other end of the scale, the money bags that are Surrey have swooped for England's Matthew Fisher.
Home comes from a family of half a dozen that have played cricket for Shropshire. He might be only 18 but is showing some real pace and currently has figures of 4-0-9-3 and has 12-114 in the competition to date from three matches

He barely played for Glamorgan last season either. A shame that injuries ended his career, but at least he'll have his one day cup win from 2022 to look back on.

I presume Surrey ( minor spit...) know they can only play 11 in each game ?
Usually term them "The Man City of cricket" but " The Chelsea of cricket" is maybe more appropriate now ....

Heartbreaking.

Rain stopped play. Fanny has realised that this is our best chance of coming out of the game with something!
